Day 2. Hemsby. What an absolute raging shithole.

The magnetic force of the shite is strong here.

:o I'm off there 1st week in September with the Mother.........

is it REALLY that bad???

Over the last two days:

Three shelves put up.  Two hanging rails in the kitchen.  Two bathroom cabinets put up.  All using drywall fittings and my new special drywall fitting gun.  Bloody marvellous thing.  It's been an absolute revelation.

I've now graduated from 'DIY Apprentice' to 'DIY Journeyman' because I can put up shelves without a single mistake or bodge and if something isn't quite as expected, fix it properly.  Get in.

Also had a go with my new DSLR and I'm bloody chuffed with it.

It would have to be, I don't like to speak of the evil empire , as you well know :-D .

Finally pulled my finger out and sorted the shed out to get all the AJS bits together so I can finally sell it and free up some funds and space for the other projects. It’s amazing how much space a motorbike takes up if you strip it to its component bits.

Mmmm... Tell us more ! Villiers-era or earlier ?

It’s a model20 project from 1953 that I have finally realised I will never ever finish. It’s the gorgeous Jampot model and a complete basket case, lots of work done but still lots and lots to do. I also have a Corgi project that is near enough complete but needs a few bits to finish, again I have just come to the realisation that my efforts and interests need to be concentrated elsewhere :-(

For these:

https://www.screwfix.com/p/easyfix-hollow-wall-anchors-8-16mm-m5-x-52mm-10-pack/12229

It'll work on any size of these, too.  Multiple sizes of anchor are available.

Available at stores other than Screwfix.

I had no idea that you were supposed to use a tool to fit these, I'd just been screwing them in with a battery gun (with limited success) I shall add the tool to my christmas* list

I learnt a lesson today, using the four post lift half way up as a place to stand to check the oil level is all well and good, but do not whatever you do top the oil up to full as it looks ‘a bit low’ as it’s a bit low because three litres of it is in the fucking ram. Don’t ask me how I know this.

I just changed a screen on a MacBook Air using mole grips I had to remove the hing screws. They’re thread locked in like a bastard and some ham fisted twat had nearly knackered the screws by using the wrong screwdrivers. Thank god I didn’t need to weld a nut onto it.

It’s oerfectly possible, it’s just that the tool makes it about 100 times easier...

Sounds very long winded, Dave_numbers would have used an axe

Bought these ready for the up coming weldathon I'm procrastinating on. Saw triplerich using them in his thread, so thought they must be good.

The idea is that they can hold and clamp a panel in place before you weld it. Once welded you undo them and pop them out.

Where did you get these and are they decent quality?

Just asking, not that I would buy any! (yeah right, tools...)

Tonight that ^^^ has been the rat removal tool.  I saw a couple of the fuckers in the chicken run hoovering up spilt food while I was fixing my sons bike in the garden.  4lb of lump hammer landing nearby accelerated their departure.

I didn't know there was a tool for them and I'm supposed to be a handyman.  I suppose I should add one to the armoury,  the irritation being that I threw out about 80 of those fixings when I moved house as they were such irritating fuckers to fit.

They were from these guys: https://www.frost.co.uk

On eBay: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F141623979969

Not sure on the quality yet as I'm not 100% sure what to expect from them. However they haven't fallen apart out of the packet, which for modern tools is a very good start!

This is the same MacBook I drowned in whisky, had it repaired under house insurance and they replaced everything but the outer case and the screen. I then promptly knocked it off the couch and broke the screen . It’s been like that for over a year as the screens are so fucking expensive . I think I’m going to wrap it in bubble wrap when I use it now .

Pm me an email address and I will send some over as soon as I get them done. At the moment it’s all in boxes so I need a bit of time to open each box and take pics of what there is. I also need to shift some mini bits before I have space to do that easily , a guy is supposed to be coming over tomorrow for most of them so should be able to get on it soon. I have just got to that point where I have too much and need to concentrate on a couple, one car, one bike, in order to get anything done.

I replaced the screen on my wife’s hp laptop for £28 and it took 10 minutes . It’s odd as the Mac’s have metal cases but they seem pretty fragile .

One of the beaks at my work asked me to sort her daughters laptop, it was some fancy HP touchscreen number and she had been quoted around £150 - £200 on the high street. The screen cost 43 pounds and some pence, i bought it from eBay and told her she could just give me the money after it was done.

It was a dainty all metal body thing with no screw heads in sight, the glass screen was all glued to the chassis, I had to carefully melt the glue, clean everything up before re-gluing it all. It was an absolute bastard and took about 4 hours but the thing looked good as new.

She came to pick it up and said "I've no change, is £40 alright?". Miserable bint.

Miserable cow. I don’t get involved in other people’s technology problems anymore . I think you can fix the screen on the Mac by melting the glue but I replaced the top case including the screen.

I've never replaced a phone screen without something else going wrong and having to buy another part. After the last time I made a decision never to open a phone or tablet again.

Imagine my delight when my son presented me with his Kindle Fire that the battery had gone fat on and a replacement battery that he'd bought. I managed to replace the battery without breaking the screen but the digitiser wouldn't work. I bought a new screen assembly and a sheet of adhesive, then the speakers wouldn't work. I gave it back to him and told him to use headphones.

Managed to successfully get the first of my children to adulthood.

Let me tell you, eighteen years just blows past. It feels like five minutes ago I was doing my A-levels.

With my ongoing pledge to make my focus stand out from the other 5 million silver zetecs on the road, i was lucky to find on bacefook over in ireland breaking a focus and had a lower tailgate spoiler, £40 POSTED was a bargain i couldnt refuse....

I have a sledgehammer in my van, would you like to borrow it?

Civic now has rear bakes, just needs bleeding and the handbrake rigging back up.

Doloshite has a new R9 rubber fuel line twixt pump and carb, tie wrapped to the brake lines around the bulkhead to keep it away from the engine heat.

Acclaim had a full tank of fuel last night, averaging 41mpg over my regular commute.

I would have smashed the screen on front of her and said no. Some folk take the piss.
