The business I work at is owned by 2 tossers. One of them (an absolute arsehole of a bloke) owns a couple of old cars. They all mostly live in the warehouse. He has a E36 BMW 328, a Nissan Figaro (those 60s looking things based on a K11) and a small camper of some description. I've only managed to get a crappy picture of it;

It was started up and moved about a bit the other day, where I work in the office is right next to where this is parked and it sounded gorgeous!

Customary pez shot (my phone auto filled that statement, excellent!)

Last time I drove a pez one of these was 18 years ago across Brittany, and this feels just as good. Handling and steering nice and precise with a lovely ride. Who needs LHM! Might keep hold of this one for a bit.

Currently at Shotley marina waiting for some match to start so I can drive home without traffic.

I was just talking about you! I saw Spit, the guy you bought it off just now at work and he telling me you had got it now, what a small world!

I saw this in the works car park last night and it looked a good one.

Looks smart that. Have these vanished or something? Only one on eBay and none on Auto Trader.

When he told me he worked in Felixstowe I did wonder if he knew you, so we chatted about all your old shite for a bit!

Apart from a few giffer dents the ZX is really nice. Leaves me with a dilemma though as it's too good for leaving parked on the road, so I may have to free up the garage and give the 416 back to my Dad.

Original dealer sticker, and plates too.

As Chelmsford was en route home I checked out the supplying garage, which is no longer Citroen (but some of the old signage is still on the wall)

I spent a while marvelling at how mintola the arches and sills are. Do these things not rot then?

Mind you the brakes are shit so I need to check those, and it has a fair old oil leak underneath. Corrosion inhibitor though innit.

Loads of paperwork and the owners wallet, which contains this attractive line up.

Yes please to all of those. Something which can't be said of the dross Citroen offer these days.

Edit: docs say it's a 1.4 Provence, which must be a limited edition that came with few extras. Keep fit windows and mirrors, no sunroof (good), but does have power steering and central locking.

Took the mighty Doloshite to work today. It managed to get there and halfway round the car park before it said "nope too hot" and died:

I pushed it into a parking space and by the time I clocked off a midnight it'd cooled down plenty enough to drive home again. While I am quite happy to drive around an old car's odd quirks having a car that conks out in stop start traffic is a bit of a hassle when you live in Scotland's largest city. I may have to actually be bothered to remedy it... To be fair it is doing quite admirably considering it was 31C when I set off.

Oh, it also used all it's oil. Seemingly I've been spoiled by the Acclaim as I was genuinely surprised when I checked the dipstick and saw it'd gone from max to below min in about 60 miles...

You need to clean your window.

That ZX post is making me fancy a ZX estate, that would be a useful tool.

They do rot, front floor pans, inner wings front and rear, rear axles will go etc. But who cares as they are one of the best drivers cars of their era.

I did. The albatross used it for target practice the day after!

I think this may have seen some welding action to the floors at some point, and it certainly has some large, exposed box sections in the engine bay where crud could accumulate and rot out.

I'd liken it to a Rover R3 in terms of sharp steering and handling, but with a better ride and more comfy seats.

Yeah the old 'a big bird did it & run away' excuse....

What? It must have a constant huge plume out the back to use that much in 60 miles.

I'm surprised nobody called the fire brigade!

That or he just never sees any motorbikes following him.

Or it's yet another layer of under seal and rust proofing of everything from the bulkhead backwards.....

My magic getty-nutty-offy things arrived yesterday, so this morning I managed to wangle off the guide pin bolt on the o/s/r of the 45 that had rounded off with about one quarter of a turn with a 19 mm spanner - result.

Right, let's get this caliper off then.....

There was absolutely no inner pad to speak of, just a shim, and I didn't even bother trying to wind that rusted fucker back in, what with the failed seal.

Recon caliper now on the want list. That bloke I bought the rear seat bench was on notice, so hopefully he's found it.

Chances of getting this fixed in time for Sunday (BL Day) - zero.

I've changed a fuse today!

Only taken me about 6 months to get round to it :-)

Finally moving into our new place this weekend. This means hot new garage action!

Just in time too, the Octavia needs a service and the Scirocco isn't charging and sounds like it's eating it's turbo. #Winning

I forgot about the MOT on my car and was reminded by my father that the mot was out this week so hastily made an appointment locally and didn’t even check it over and it passed with flying colours

.

My local garage also only charges £40 for a ticket as well so another bonus.post-9282-0-50436500-1530287261_thumb.jpeg

today we haz mostly been fixing the black mini,

no pics cos the batteries in the camera wer flat (a gr8t way to start) which it turns out, was just what the mini thought too cos his battery was flat too....

pushed the car out of the garage, tow rope attached and off to Geoff's garage. where upon we whipped off the n/s front wheel and set too pulling off the hub.which was easier than it sounds cos the ball joints were proper tight! several many, many hits with a hammer and the joints came apart - eventually.

as we thought, the n/s outer cv joint had come off the end of the shaft, the splines of which were also mulitated. so buying the new cv joint and drive shaft was a good call.  we got them put onto the car, along with new metal clip/band things around both outer CV joints, as the drivers side boot had worked loose fron the joint. that was the one and only time that i will try a cable tie round a CV joints boot!

on the way back to the garage, i noticed that the brakes had become shit again. just like last time, first press of the pedal, and nothing, a second press, and the pedal had firmed up and the brakes were working fine. we had a quick look, and the adjusters on the n/s hub were loose. now i'm hoping that with the hammering earlier to split the ball joints, has worked the adjusters out of adjustment..... anyway, having set them back where they are supposed to be, the function of the brakes was just like they should be, plus after a ~(admitted short) test drive it seems that the brakes are indeed fixed.

but now the rub. kerry wants to take the car upto Ormesby Hall's classic car show on sunday, and i don't. mainly cos i'm not sure that i trust it.....

Got my Rover 75 V6 back from further fettlement but after having the waterpump and thermostat changed seems to be running a little warmer than it did previously.

It does coincide with the hot weather though, and it's not overheating so guess it's all ok!

Run up to Gaydon for the BMC show on Sunday so will see how it behaves!
