It's a 400. 416 to be precise. I'm conscious that the Honda lump can eat head gaskets if used heavily following a period of inactivity so I'm trying to take it lightly. It really really needs cleaning though.

Dare I say I prefer them as autos..?

It's not a Honda engine in that, it's pure Rover. Unfortunately.

Um, no, always Honda in a R8 216/416 (except last of the line coupes and tourers after the launch of the R3 200 (bubble) & HHR 400).

Bramz, I reckon you've done better with this than the 218 diesel you side-stepped!

Yeah 1590cc, definitely Honda! Unmistakable engine noise too.

I've already got a list of parts to put on this one. Eager to get it tidy a bit quicker than hoped!

How's the diesel going? I proper fancy a XUD one at somepoint, or a 2 litre.

Just as I thought I'd reached a point where motoring problems are sorted, another curve ball has come along. I was wondering why the TT was getting through so much washer fluid. I thought it just had a really small tank. Finally on a dry day it's a bit clearer on the actual reason.

Looks like the headlight washer jet is leaking.

They're ridiculously complicated for what they are. I'm used to washer jets just popping out at most, not a twist action too.

I can't seem to find any second hand ones online and I suspect not shared with any other models. New on eBay is around £70. So probably take it off and see if I can glue it/replace seals first.

Bloody VAG.

Used heavily? They blow if you lay them up at all.

My first car was a 216 on 52k that had been laid up for a few years, only doing a few hundred miles, and it got all of 4 miles into my ownership before it boiled over.

It's sulking in the corner at the moment.  I suspect whoever mixes Halfords paints must be colourblind (not the first occasion I've thought this) as the cans provided by the seller to deal with the severe lacquer peel are more like blaze orange!  In any case the bonnet is pretty much beyond help without respraying it properly; the rest of it is now a beaultiful trio-tone grey, red and orange.  MOT is booked for 1st June as I know I don't plan on using it before then; it will need at least one trailing arm bush which I'll get the garage to do.  If it gets a new ticket I'll have another go at the paintwork.  And you still have dibs on it when the time comes....

Weekly fluids check on the Streetwise. Ooh PAS fluid is a bit low. Tip up bottle, glump-glump-glump, great big flood comes out, now massively over-filled, FFS.

Hoped I may have an old syringe lying around from my hedgehog rehab days. Nada.

Pela to the rescue (or rather Sealey rebranded Pela). Two minutes later, all good.

Ah but my thermostat/something else has gone iffy so this one runs cold. My old diesel Clio did the same, but apparently it was missing the stat...

I'll get this one sorted ASAP.

The question is who wouldn't want an old Focus that sounds like the back-end of a night at the curry house when the fridge is broken and the cat's gone missing?

Inspired by the fitment of LED headlight bulbs to Cla$$ics Monthly's Jaguar XJ6 project car in this month's edition of the magazine, I have just ordered a pair of LED headlight bulbs for The Volvo, which has always had pretty poor headlights.

I wonder how well they'll work, and more importantly, how long it will be before they stop working?

I've got a LED headlight in my bike, it's not failed yet & is about 300% better than the normal bulb. Passed an MOT fine so the cutoff must be ok too.

The cooling fan on the back of mine amuses me when I turn the ignition on, it's a jet starter right? :D

Bloody VAG.

Reminds me of my Citroen c5. I had to attach the washer covers with cable ties after the clips broke. This entailed caputuring the wAsher jets when they popped out and clamping them with a peg. Bloody strong springs they had too!

New centre pipe on the Rover yesterday, safe to say, I've had my money's worth out of it :mrgreen:5cafae1f9cc917b248a2e31b23ebbab0.jpgcc1fa6fc8ab255206139bbf2762caccc.jpgf6b5ff5d9b8d70ba131e9fbff3e3a320.jpg

Ambient exhaust pipe.  Well-ventilated for maximum performance.  Love it.

But does the cat appreciate it?

I’ve just won a fiat x1/9 dealer poster on eBay by bidding a silly amount of money. It looks identical to my car though. I intend to get it framed, though that will certainly double the cost, then I’ve no idea where it will go.

It comes with a dealer brochure for the1988 cars. So I now have two of these to pass on if anyone is interested.

I have just spent the weekend in that East London at my neice's wedding. I was pleasaintly surprised that I enjoyed it, the funniest bit was watching my brother and nephew dropping the wedding car back at my neice's (and her new husband's) house. Two big blokes in an old VW beetle, with wedding ribbons on did attract a fair bit of attention. The Beetle has not been used much for years, but she wanted it as her wedding car and it's taken a few weeks for my brother to get it up and running.

It scrubbed up quite well. We took it up from West Wales on a trailer just to be on the safe side.

I had to drive the mother, grandmother and aunts in my brother's BMW, I was glad it was an automatic, but the built in SatNav was not good. At one point this afternoon when we were getting the cars back to the hotel I met my brother coming the opposite way, the traffic was so busy we were stopped alongside each other "why are you going the wrong way?" "I'm using the SatNav" "Well don't"

Fortunately by the time I was well and truly lost I found the TomTom SatNav and set that, ignored the built in one and got back to the hotel half an hour after my brother.

When we stopped at Leigh Delamere services we did not have the oldest car in the car park

Barrett will know what it is straight away, but for those who don't, it's a 1911 De Dion Bouton.

I'm home, I'm knackered, my brother had another two hours to go after he dropped me off, then had to unload the car before taking the trailer back. I think he will ask his other daughters to elope.

I’ve got a work mates wedding to do on 19 May...

...in the Mercury!

Fucking thing better behave itself for the day! It’ll be embarrassing and deeply irritating if it starts flooding itself constantly again and refusing to run.

I’m really not looking forward to it tbh.

BMW sat nav is pretty ropey - I had a rental 320d a couple of years ago that was hell bent on getting me lost!
