I'm being tormented by SERIOUS BURNING DESIRE for a XJ6 after missing out on Partridge's one.  It's becoming an obsession and I'm starting to lose my objectivity. They're shit, aren't they?  Worse than a P38, correct?  Please say it's true.

Too late, I've bought one:

Just insured the Favorit with Footman James for the year for £109 with a 2,000 mile limit (no business use at all). Sounds a bargain as long as I don't change anything in the year when no doubt I'll get hit for an admin fee costing about 50% of the policy ;-)

Less than a day into pre 2001 ford ownership and my number plate OCD has kicked in. The wanky post 2001 font with euro gb thing has already offended my eyes too much and I've got a DMB order on the go for some Evans halshaw exeter dealer plates and window sticker. ----DV is an exeter issue so ties in well.

Begone wanky plates!

Yesterday, me & Supernaut was the the 'Ramp it up' down in Abroath, him changing the O2 sensors on his LS400 and to change the brake disc's on mine.

Great place, clean workshop, 4-poster lift & all the basic tool's you'll need. Beat's crawling under the car in the driveway while it's freezing outside!

Dimpled & grooved EBC disc's suit a 2 tonne luxo-barge right?

It's cured the brake judder, which gives me confidence when the need to suddenly brake arises. :)

And last night, me Supernaut & Tayne went out for a few drinks...

We ended up playing around with a Piaggio Ape.

And now I really want one, the good* news is they cost much more than I was expecting, meaning i'm not likely to actually get one.

I know you've all been desperate* to see my van, so here you go...post-5582-0-83741600-1480282773_thumb.jpg

I got a bucket of soapy water and scrubbed the cockpit for half an hour. It really was a shit hole inside.

Then washed the outside in the dark, so it will need done again no doubt.

Promised myself I'll tidy up the rusty bits too.

I'm not allowed to park it in the estate that is our temporary home. The curtains are twitching faster than those on a Dundee slapper with crabs.

I have been to South Wales today and found this yellow 75 parked outside a restaurant, I was kind of hoping the owner might appear and to ask why I was photographing his car but no such luck, I would have loved to hear more about his car.

Hopefully will have a running and driving car by the end of play tomorrow...

Ah, I love the smell of failure in the evening.

Ran out of time doing the master cylinder so will have to bleed the system tomorrow, honestly I think it's probably a bit buggered and I'll have to shell out £50 for a new one. I'll be content with having to top it up weekly again, just hope I haven't made the leak worse. Still no fuel getting to the pump from the tank, I'll have to take a better look tomorrow. Also most of the electrics have ceased working, probably duff wiring or the fuse box.

Joys.

Xantia is now much more composed than before but stil a bit crashy, which appears to be normal for the type. It's still about a millionty times more comfortable than the Carisma.

Found car twitchy on back end.. so got on the floor under medication and found tyre really edgy and massive split , so ive whipped them all off and put spare 17s i had in the shed untill i can sort out all tyres and put decent tyres on the ford ones in the new year.

I bought a CB radio starter kit back in May, from a company called Thunderpole. The handset hasn't been working very well, and when I tried to use it on Saturday, it was barely working at all when I pressed the broadcast button on the side of it.

I emailed Thunderpole last night, quoting the invoice number from May, and explained the problem. They've put a new handset in the post and told me not to bother sending back the faulty one, just to throw it out. Result!

Also, has your Lexus had some sort of some front end accident?

The panel gaps around the lights seem somewhat inconsistent....

The car it's self is fine, it's the side part of the headlamp that's not fitted correctly due to me braking the securing bracket at the top.

It's secure enough, just needs to be pushed back every so many days.

Busy AF atm, so apologies for the radio silence.

Something I've been meaning to bring up is a colleagues car.  She's a lovely lady (late 50s but definitely...err..."active") and her choice of conveyance caught my eye from the moment I met her.

I'd never ever heard of one before.  They're really attractive in an obscure, AS kind of way.  I've been meaning to take a few pictures forever.

Sadly, last week she was involved in a smash with "Johnny Foreigner" and it'll be written off.  She's not interested in getting it fixed up, so it'll probably appear at CoPart soon.  Apparently needs a wing, door and a sill.

Such a shame - so rare, and massive spec as it was ex demonstrator.

They only sold them in the UK for a fairly short time, sales were so slow. One of them lives near me. Based on a Clio (or maybe a 2nd gen Twingo?).

Have a couple of photos from my spotting thread.

Paid a visit to the LFG who are currently dealing with the MG ZT suspension woes. The subframe is now out and on the floor. One snapped coil spring and a broken suspension arm. Various new bushes needed. Ho Hum. Work continues.....

Paid a man to replace the front shock bushes on the XJ6 today.  It only needed the off-side doing, and was money well spent, as the nasty clonk is gone.  The offending bush was the width of a waffer thin mint so no wonder it was making me wince going over bumps.  He advised some wishbone and the ARB bushes are past it too so might get those done at some point.

Also bought a new battery for it last week at 65 quid, which I thought was good value as it’s got high CCA and RC ratings.  Plus it’s flippin’ massive.  New RH back ‘box would be nice, but I’ll see if my silencer bandage bodge holds up for the time being.

I’ll now get cracking with using it more as it’d benefit from a few long runs and regular usage – the previous owner only covered 150 miles in five years, no doubt just to the test station, so I’ll be amazed if it doesn’t throw up more issues (hopefully nothing too wallet draining though!).

Other fleet news is the Cavalier needs a new driver’s door lock.  The bugger locked me out last week, but thankfully I had a spare key at home that works the passenger side and the central locking.  It did this after I treated it to two new tyres which is typical!  It’s also running a bit rubbish at the moment so I’ve bought a replacement air flow meter.  If that’s not the culprit then atleast I’ve got a spare if it does kipper in future.

Some say the Renault Wind has a passing resemblance to the Lotus Europa...

That car was cursed from the get go by it's stupid name. Not even the most hardened member of the fun police could fight off a smirk if you mentioned you  drove a wind.

Not awful by all accounts other than obvious (of it being a Renault).

Only in the same way that a modern MINI, Fiat 500, Dodge Charger, Ford Mustang etc resembles the original.

Is the wind powered by the F4RT engine ?

I've seen a few around and assumed they were electric/ hybrid - Probably the "new age" name and quirky looks (which I like, so up yours haters).

I can see where you're coming from - Renault could have electrified as a Honda CR-Z rival.
