corolla still works. used some oil going to the 'port and back, but i think these early vvti engines all burn some oil. or i'm just telling myself that anyway. hopefully getting some boot struts at the 3rd fucking attempt. because when I buy some of course I only want one and not a pair!

needs some things doing, and the throttle cable is part tape, but you know, such is life.

Just realised that last Tuesday was the 20th anniversary of me buying the Volvo 164.

And I nearly got it of you, you have such tempting cars!

Anyone near Pilning train station? Glovestrains video was suggested to me and I do like occasionally like watching her vids...

I noticed there appears to be a white saloon car, possibly a Ford or Vauxhall, I wonder what it is?

EDIT*

From this angle, it looks like a.Mk2 Cortina:

20241002_012545.jpg.e3417b78138c1f7e68d68e8657525110.jpg

I did notice that there appears to be a scrapyard or vehicle storage right next to the station.

I think @pilninggas might be your man, although I'm doing a bit of work up that way at the moment.

Blimey astonishing spotting @Lord Sterling. That compound used to belong to Alan Coward, but his lot moved up to Chittening 20+ years ago.

I can take a look but cant do it until the weekend, so @angleis welcome to do a recce first.

expected a smaller S Class, but got a posh Cavalier.

People forget these are Rovers and they were car for someone looking for a bit more luxury than their D-Segment Vectra or Mondeo could provide. That's why people always say they prefer the earlier Honda-based cars, because they portrayed this image without the fancy styling. Remember the episode where Hyacinth Bucket etc al went to a Rolls Royce garage in their Rover 200? That wasn't far off the truth at all.

If they were pitched against top - end 3 series or C class you would have been paying for it, and nobody would have because of the badge.

You must have Top Gear stuck in your head, where they reviewed one at the October 1998 Birmingham Motorshow and compared it to the Jaguar S Type. The latter is a class above and a totally different driving experience.

Posted

Yes, S Type does ride significantly better than a 75, and I also prefer the handling being RWD.  As you say though, different class of car (and price bracket).  Also the diesel engine in the Rover is brilliant, the 2.7 V6 in the S Type is a bag of shite.  Although a 3-litre petrol S Type is a fantastic machine.

Haha I did get some hate in the comments from bitter Rover 75 owners 😂

I gave up with You Tube - a lot more effort to stop and start recording when I'm trying to fix something, for, like, 100 views. The whole platform is in its twilight anyway.

As I've said before, I usually either look at something thats photo worthy, or do a job, finish and go on to the next thing, and then think ' should have videoed or photod that!'

I 'photod' my Rear Parking Bleepers....

Can't think why 😁

Got a lift in mum's new 74 plate Duster today. It is mostly identical to the outgoing 21 plate one, but with a more complicated stereo.

I'm not really sure what the point was if I'm honest.

Another quick job today for a friend of the wife.

IMG_20241003_153408.jpg.1549862eab0bf4037db3abcc943ff74a.jpg

A two owner fiat Cinquecento that's done 32,000 miles in its 28 years and a fair few more while being towed behind a Motorhome.

IMG20241003140539.jpg.d0ad3be3158f812a0d37426ce12be215.jpg

A fuel hose to the filter had turned to jelly and started dripping. I had some decent Gates ethanol proof hose handy so replaced it and any others that looked iffy.

The poor little thing hasn't been cleaned for years and the paint is really dull and chalky but the body hardly has a dink on it the only rust is two plebs on the scuttle.

It drives far better than it looks and is surprisingly nippy around the houses. Give it a good clean and i reckon it wouldn't look out of place at the Fotu top table if thats your thing.

This got a wash shammy and new rear wiper blade. For a 12 year old car it still looks superb.

Now… that’s something I would really like to try!

I was taken to the 1998 Motorshow for my birthday by my Uncle… it was a very formative trip for me. A 75 and an S-Type have been on the want list ever since and still are… or at least… were until Tuesday!

Part of me is wondering if I would grow to like a 75 if I owned one for a bit… rather than just trying one. The green one has sold, but I totally forgot I had first refusal on one from a friend of a friend who I met at a car show in the summer. And he messaged about 10 mins ago… might be worth a look…

Took a bit of time out from scraping polyurethane sealant and crap of the underside of this.

And went for a decent ride out in this.

Only managed 320 miles in it between MOTs this last year. ☹️

Makes me want one again, or a ULEZ friendly Seicento.

Useless information alert, but Streeters is still a car dealership, albeit Ancaster Hyundai and formerly Nissan.  I went there in the late 90s when my mate bought his first car from them, a yellow Cinquecento Sporting.  In contrast I was running a knackered 1973 Mini on a shoestring!

Today I visited a man who does magic with Saabs. I don't own a car anymore, it's now a galaxy class spaceship.
