I just recall that the collars were quite rusty. Looking at your picture again, the collar looks too thick for the socket trick to work. Sorry!

I'm going to try splitting or drilling the collar , I presume the collar will be hardened ☹️

While Er'indoors is away I decided to fit the mud flaps on her car,  as she works out in the sticks and car gets rarely cleaned so it may stay cleaner longer... or more dirt on older dirt

Excellent choice of car. Do you still have your Cortina’s? I would love to see a thread on your cars.

The E class estate is an excellent choice for a daily driver, the most impressive car I have driven built in the 21st century.

We had the Estate version in 2.0 exclusive flavour. Was a very good car. Don’t think we realised how good until we moved it on!

If you have a pre 1957 2cv hidden away and are free on Monday to go to goodwood for a photoshoot, then classic and sports car needs you. I’m out of ideas, as my contacts aren’t available at five days notice unsurprisingly!

Apologies for the cold email, but Lizzie Pope kindly passed on your details so that I could ask your help with a photoshoot we're putting together and hopefully including an early 2CV.

We're gathering at Goodwood circuit next week, on Monday 20th February, with the stars of 1948 - Morris MInor, Jaguar XK120, Porsche, Ferrari, Land-Rover, so the Citro??n would ideally be an original, pre-1957, ripple-bonnet car in great condition.

I've spoken with many others already, specialists, the 2CVGB club, and spoken with Lucy Cutler, who has a fine 1952 example, but not as yet found an option available on the day!

Any help you could provide would be really appreciated.

Kind regards,

Aaron McKay

Ta very much, I’m super stoked on it, ultra impressive!

As for the Cortinas, I still have them both, hoping that the GXL will find a new custodian this year and that a place to weld the estate car up will manifest itself. High hopes...

Eagle eye cherry!!

It’s the 4/7ths scale one, bumped from some kids mini burner.
Without wanting to come off all Fergal about it, it IS hard to find a good seat these days, that one is form and function.

I had noticed how heavy the mondy's bonnet was - or maybe it was lack of lubrication?

20230215_145254.thumb.jpg.db6ca96587db57411e77b88bf467fb3e.jpg

An oil can with a long spout cured the slight stiffness ( fnarr fnarr).

Mk4 mondeo bonnet locks seem to have issues if they are not maintained. Our's looked like it had been up someone's arse. I blasted it with brake cleaner ( it evaporates unlike carb cleaner which although better at cleaning hates certain plastics).

Careful lubing with an oil can and it looked and worked much better. Ditto all the other hinges.

This our first white car. You have to clean all the shuts otherwise it isn't clean.

I did the same with the e60 - however it needed minimal cleaning.

MX5 has new tyres.

I am informed the jacking points are fucked, there are multiple brake fluid leaks, two dragging brakes (I knew about one), and that the wheelarch next to the filler neck smells of fuel and is damp...

Need to see how much truth is in that.

MGF MOT fail today. On the plus side I immediately secured the battery with the clamp I bought after an advisory last year 🙄

New Cat and wheel bearing required, fine.

Headlamps were odd, no pattern at all, I made him check many times but nope, definitely not there.

I emailed them months ago in anticipation of getting the thing. They never replied. They are still in business but don't appear to do anything car related.
