Is that the new album by The Fall?

Another sunrise and as always more to add to the life tapestry, a 1981 Ital which I didn't predict I'd be looking at upon the garden by any stretch of the imagination this week.

Huge thanks to the combined efforts of the Walgrave transport team for delivering it with consummate professionalism and for a perfectly good price, excellent work!

Not sure how to dispose of the 20-30 litres of contaminated fuel as the local tip won't take it, any ideas  ??????

Mix with waste oil and turn into home made fence preservative? That’s what the guy at work who restores vintage motorcycles does

The number of household waste recycling places which do not take small quantities of car fluids is either increasing or are so few and far between that everyone on here is unlucky.

The smaller sites here in West Sussex don’t take oil/antifreeze/fuel but the major ones do - tip at your next town along might take it, your local county council should have a link to all household waste sites

That will need more than a wash and t-cut!

I decant my used oil into other small bottles and hide one or 2 a week in the black bin when needed, especially with my local tip being very far away atm thanks to covid...

Although the weeds in the communal car park are looking terrible, I might loose a few litres over it all in the autumn...

I'm not sure what to say. I'm not a saint. And therefore won't throw the first stone, but I think....no... That's what I think...no..don't...think of the fish...

The detail where our erstwhile delivery driver should have been given an address that was similar to crap yard but with an S.

A braver man than me...

In summary it's a badly facelifted mk2 cortinaesque car with slightly crap-er front suspension yet is likely considered drastically worse than a Ford or vauxhall et al of the time ,,,imo all are similarly dynamically poor compared to 2020s automotive standards but some brands have had better marketing brainwashing backup historically and in essence I'll be motoring around in this loving scrubbing the front sidewalls on the road and maybe just about getting some feeble axle tramp from that 1275cc muscle motor! Progress will occur when I can manage ,, my mind and body isn't that willing currently but still got to plan ahead regardless!

The Toyota's brakes continue to baffle me.  I had the drum off again and as far as I can see everything is moving as it should, so I have no idea why it's suddenly decided to start binding on.  I might end up having to admit defeat and hand it over to the garage to sort.  I fugging hate brakes.

If you ever do figure it out, let me know, the Yaris does it as well.

I finally found where the blow was coming from on the Audi.

You can make out the very fine hairline crack around the bottom of the downpipe in the video.

It looks like it has enough life left in it to buff up to let me stabilise it with some weld (providing I can fix my wire feed issue) and then seal it (because my welding isn't that good) with paste.

The car is also quite low so I'm going to need to find a way of safely raising it so I can get under it enough with the MIG torch.

Oh and if the rain ever pisses off.

Not necessarily, I know all my black bin waste goes to the incinerator up at Shrewsbury along with all my paper/cardboard recycling every time it gets slightly damp (so most fortnight's).

I still wouldn't though,  it's a pain in the arse driving to the tip from here but a couple of oil changes worth of oil doesn't take up too much space until I get around to driving that way.

MOT day for the Mini.

Everything as expected.

I turned the airbag light off in the car park but I knew as soon as the wheel was turned it would come back on. Needs a new clockspring.

Side light, the connector is broken and it comes on when it wants.

I knew the subframe was corroded and was intending on having the lower arms done along with it. I'll speak to the tester and see if I can get away with painting it for now.

I did the nearside caliper last year so the offside one is no surprise, will get that done myself. Brake pipe not sure. The Cav got an advisory like that and it was a tiny bit of surface corrosion which too 10 seconds to rub off with an emery cloth. I'll speak to the tester and see what's what with that.

I agree.

Not too bad then, just a pain that I'll have to wait for the new clockspring to come from ebay before I can get it retested.

I'll probably do the Caliper and the side light meantime.

No, I don't mind these kind of advisories as long as they don't go absolutely mad with them and I can understand why they do them. Gives me kind of a list to work to during the year.  The following year, I got rid of all of them apart from the minor leak about the sump.

Can you sort the bulb and drive there and reset the code then point to both issues being sorted?

Civic was in for the MOT today. Failed. Nothing major, Headlamp beam pattern and a duff self levelling sensor.

but i'm just going to say that's me totally done with Japanese cars.

Been stung on every one i've had. Although admittedly, the Ignis, probably the rarest one was probably the least difficult.

Sick to death of their near unrivalled ability to throw up total unobtanium issues. Doesn't seem to matter how common they are, or what they need, there's always at least 1 bit you can't get, need to spend hours cross referencing part numbers, only to find it's mega specific, dealer only and north of £300 for something that should cost about £20.

I may be able to do this in the car park......

They were receptive to that idea but unfortunately  the side light is dead, I think years of flickering has killed the bulb.

I'm going to sort the airbag properly, get it passed and then it will be up for sale. In a remarkable and unexpected  turn of events, Mrs_Pin is smitten with the 75 and now wants a larger automatic car.

I am quite relieved that the Mini adventure* might be coming to to close.

Looks like new, not bad for a 15 year old Ford Connect. Amazing compared with the vile mountains of stinky sludge inside V4 Transit engines…

That’s more like it, oil leaks!

The cam cover gasket is only a few years old. Completely compressed at the belt-end

hardly squashed at all at the flywheel end.

No clues as to where it is leaking, there is oil everywhere (except into the sparking plug well). A straight edge along the cover shows no distortion anywhere.

Reassamble with a little bead of silicone on the gasket. Cross fingers.

Don't worry I've taken a telling off elsewhere for it! In my defence I only make 5l a year, and 4l of it is sat behind the shed still but I'll start bottling it and saving it up for correct disposal into the tank of who knows what at the tip
