Trundled along for a Drs appt this morning in the Metro, riding with the correct "trim" following pumping up with a modified grease gun sourced from e bay!post-4673-0-32661300-1490432923_thumb.jpg

What app is that Andy?

It's called Acar, Trig; once it's set up (a few minutes to change settings to UK imperial and add cars) it takes about 30 seconds to add fuel ups. I've been using it for ages, only issue I've found is working out how to transfer records from an old handset to a new one so I generally restart it every couple of years.

It's a clear day and actually quite warm, so half of Scotland has descended on St Andrews. This is also the weekend the students all come back, so there's that to contend with. This either means we'll be completely run off our feet all night, or we'll be down to an order every half an hour at most like we were last weekend. Hopefully the former because the Golf's aptitude for mega mpg comes in and I might get enough fuel money to brim it to get me through the week.

Either way it's too warm and there's people everywhere. Both can just fro.

Having seen that the price of fuel had dropped for the first time in a little while, seeing in the news last night that the supermarkets are away to start slashing prices again has got me even more in the mood for taking the LS out of Storage. Helps that there is prime space on the parent's driveway thats not being used up!

Bloody photographer wants my car again for a night shoot... tonight! Something about 'Starship Enterprise' effects.  Been and got it, cleaned it, cleaned it inside and now so knackered I don't want to actually go out and drive it!

Took the merc to merit in bagshot for tracking this morning. They managed to do one side( which was replaced in Jan and the reason the tracking needs to be done) but the o/s rod is seized solid. So now I need to get the o/s replaced.

And if I want the camber done too then the bolts/rubbers in the lower suspension arm thingies ( stand back, technical talk!) need freeing off and /or replacing. Apparently the rear end is perfect!

Nothing to pay though yet and to be honest the car steers as well now ( in the 500 metres home ) as it did before the n/s tie rod was replaced.

Anyhoo. I've dropped an email to my local mobile guy, but if he can't do it ( will it need a lift?) then I'll be back at the Citroen specialist in the week.

Also in NEWS, got the 2cv out and drove down to laithwaites in Virginia water. Sales girls loved it!

Bands for each gear it not having tacho?

The 2cv speedometer has markers for changing up - like you say, it could be a gear band reminder.

Old beetles had change markers on the speedo too.

During the winter I noticed that my max & paddy wagon was letting in water in the overcab bed area. There was nothing for it but to peel off the wall covering and get an idea of the extent of the problem.

Hmm. Not too bad, maybe I can just bodge it with some builders foam, wood hardener and no more nails, and just slap a load of sikaflex on the outer seams...

Arse.

RIP wooden frame. You clearly rotted away some time ago & someone else already did the builders foam and sika bodge. Looks like I'll have to do a proper job...

Last weekend I rebuilt the wooden frame with treated timber (seemingly an upgrade on the coachbuilder spec):

And this weekend I whipped off the aluminium trims, cleaned off the rotten mastic, did some minor panel beating, degreased, refitted with mastic strip, stainless screws & finished with a bead of sika.

What a palaver.

Next week: The other side. Thankfully signs are that it's not as bad and external reseal may be all* that is needed:

Then: wait for it to rain & see what happens.

Eventually: new insulation and ply line the inner panels.

Can anyone tell me what the coloured bands mean on the speedo in this 1968 Opel Rekord Caravan?

The steaming mug of coffee button is terrific. Who'd have thought 1968 Opel would have such an option?

Edit: beaten to it by Andy.

On a serious note there's a superb film on film4 at 11:05 pm , dead mans shoe's , I'd rate it as one of the best British film's ever made, revenge extraordinaire  !!!

Tonight a taxi driver came in to complain that I'd slowed down with him too close behind me. When the silliness of the idea was pointed out to him he moved to the fact I was doing 35 in a 40. The words "limit not a target" didn't seem to make sense to him. Store manager asks him to leave as he's being abusive towards staff. That's cheered me right up. Probably need to watch out for him on the road now or I'll have a minicab shaped hole in my car.

Found the perfect holiday car. I've got the money, they're not too far away and everything adds up.

Can I get hold of them? Nope. Emailed, messaged, rang and sent a text. Nothing.

Can anyone send me any spare Mojo please? I really need to get this fixed.

Either replacing the head gasket, or swapping the engine for another D7F. When I think about it an engine swap seems like an awful lot of work. Anyone who has swapped a Clio engine and has the experience to just do it, rather than my staring at it in a mild state of confusion, would probably be able to help me get this thing running again in a weekend!

I'm on a car fixing roll, well , for me anyway.

Replaced the alternator on the Arosa, apparently if you've got a big enough hammer there's no need to drop the engine a bit for bolt to clear chassis rail. They don't mention that on ClubLupo!

Cleaned the V70, chuffed to find no damage or evidence of previous repair, always a bonus the first time you clean a new car.

Just need to replace a headlamp bulb on both Gaylander and Fiat 500, both probably need the bumper, grille and roof removing first.

Also adjust the handbrake on the Gaylander, in theory just remove the stereo controls in the back of the console and tweak a nut- we'll see.

I took the Metro out for a run since its nice weather. Did about 120km in it no problems. The suspension is weird - it has definitely sunk a little over winter, but somehow rides a lot better for it now.

It still guffs a wee bit of coolant out of the header cap.....just enough to leave a damp puddle on the top of the tank when I checked it once I got back home -, the level hasnt dropped by a noticeable amount. I think I will have to bite the bullet and get a new header tank for it as the cap doesnt tighten very well.

Obviously the proper tanks are NLA, but apparently an injection Mini tank will do the job. I just hope that once its sealed it doesnt start over-pressuring again. I might get one of those cheapo sniff-test kits from ebay just in case.

Mirror arrived for the Rover yesterday, it's easier to change the whole mirror than just the glass. Pop off the inside trim, unplug wiring, and three screws, that's it. I now have a functioning passenger wing mirror!

Put the BGD away while it's still clean and had fun (briefly) burbling around in MX5 with roof down.... had to get home for racing! Typical that the first really nice, warm day is the day I have to be inside. I've waited all winter for the racing to start again, not sodding missing it!

F1 now watched (no spoilers from me) Moto GP now on the box.

I had a few hours on the cortina today. One of the chassis legs is horribly mangled and it looked worse once I'd cleaned all the debris out of it. I made up a section to go over it out of box but when I tacked it on today highlights how badly deformed the chassis rail is to the point I'm not sure I can weld this new section in. I just went home.

The gear linkage on the Panda is broken. The bush at the end of the linkage has come out of the metal bracket it's held in. The bush itself was still attached to ball on the back of the gearbox and I couldn't get it come off. Over 5 visits I've tried various methods but its in a totally shite position. I eventually managed to get it off today with a super long crow bar. I have a plan to fix it (it involves cable ties) but I not can't get the bush back into the bracket. I think I'll have to take the wheel and arch liner out and attach it from that end. Replacing the whole thing is not only pretty expensive it looks like a ball ache so I want to make it work. Mot is up in June so once I fix this I may retest it and make another attempt at selling it.

Cadillac, is now on the road. It's really nice to drive and pretty quick.  The speedo goes up to 260mph. Not sure that's achievable.

I've used it for my commute 3-4 times and its very comfy and handles nice although I do miss the iPhone and DAB in my Juke on the daily slog.

It's not shown up any real issue an has behaved well other than the alarm going off for no reason now and again although sometimes on the motorway you get that feeling you;ve been hit by a gust of wind but when you look at the tree's they're not moving.  That could point to something wayward in the suspensions. MPG's are course shite. I recon it's getting 20mpg on my commute.

The major issue looming is the mot in May and the airbag light issue. There's a common fault with the seat arse detector (see all e46 BMW's ever) but not a lot of help on how to resolve it on line. I tried to find one of these cheat devices that tricks the system into thinking the airbag is okay but can't find one for the model. The other option is the airbag ecu of which there are loads on eBay use for about 60 quid.

I think I need to get it plugged into a decent diagnostics machine as my diddy bluetooth reader isn't really giving any useful information.
