Shuffled down the A19, through the tunnel, to York in ToMM©. Brunch at Tesco on the ring road.

Attempted to find 'affordable parking' for NRM.. fail :(

Went to Shopping Village on the Hull road.

Came home.

£30=5 gals/200 miles (scenic route) @ 40mpg.

We can live with this..... ;)

the trick with parking for the NRM is to park at Rawcliff Park and Ride where the A19 meets the A1237? outer ring road.

it is i think £3 return to get the bus into town while parking all day is free, the bus that stops right outside the NRM!

I had a run down to Harewood Hillclimb in the Merc 300SE, perhaps one of it's last trips as the previous owner has made interested noises about it now it's a going concern.

The hillclimb was a good varied mix, Gould GR55s, 1961 E type, Lotus and TVRs etc with oddities like a Volvo 940 estate and a Nissan Leaf.

Came home in time to watch F1 after meeting a Frenchman trying to drive the wrong way on the A1M/A58 slip road and a Vauxhall Ampere coming out of the Woodside Cafe and expecting the 70mph traffic to scatter to accomodate him.....

Totally agree M8. I used to park in York, on job call outs, but not for a long time in a bay. The bttds won't let you park for 3hrs on a street meter (until after 3pm!) Need 3hr to do a 'proper walk to/DOit/walk back'.....

Picked this S40 up over the weekend, it's going to be my daily. It's only a 1.6 petrol but it's pretty nice to drive. Slightly tatty in places but I'm fairly impressed!

Of course it has issues, drivers rear door is deadlocked and won't open no matter what, also the gearbox has a whine on the overrun. I think it's the diff. I topped up the oil and it ate over a litre so there's obviously a leak somewhere. I think these boxes really the same as Mk2 Focuses and seem to be mega cheap to get hold of so it's no big disaster to replace it.

Is 12 years old classed as shite? I hope so.

Finally sorted the many many leaks my old 75 has. Prototype/ preproduction development work finally completed by my good self. Production models are known for it but mine had water getting in through body Seams, bulkhead wiring grommets, trim fixings, boot hinge mounts, screen surround fixings, d pillar fixings, roof to body side flanges, rear 1/4 to rear deck seams, the usual bulkhead/ pollen filter thing....... ummm I think that's a complete list. In celebration, and after refitting the interior AGAIN, I took it for a late evening drive.....

In other MG Rover news, I shunted the mg Express around so I can apply its sign writing for the Pride Of Longbridge this coming weekend. I took inspiration from the publicity stunt that x part did in 2003. They took delivery of one as part of their 'parts guarantee' in theory to allow components to be fast tracked from source to the supplying dealer (presumably a normal van simply wasn't fast enough to deal with headgasket bulk orders?) Anyway here's a pic....

attachicon.gifIMG_0583.PNG

Now my van is trophy blue rather than the dark grey, which excuses it from being a faithful replica from the off, its more of a tribute I guess. Basically I took, as they did, the genuine parts logo and after a bit of fiddling I've got a set of vinyl graphics made up as a loose reinterpretation of the factory delivery hack.....

Excuse my 'initial ideas' scribble but I should be able to take a pic of the real thing sometime this week

Love the graphics for the express van, but not too sure about the spoon at the bottom.

People who only buy on Ebay and don't sell will automatically have 100% positive feedback, because you can't leave negative feedback for buyers, only for sellers!

Just had to make a tricky decision on the Camry. It’s at the garage and they’ve started to fit all my bits. However, to do the clutch the engine is going to have to come out. It’s either that or drop the subframe, which sounds like grief as well. At least that will make it easier for them to do the cam belt/tensioner/water pump it ideally needs too.

Just hope the final bill doesn’t make me add a rare post on the grump thread…..

Apologies for quoting myself, but the graphics arrived today and I fitted them in my lunch break.....post-4673-0-27992700-1491840594_thumb.jpgpost-4673-0-07010400-1491840622_thumb.jpgpost-4673-0-64926000-1491840659_thumb.jpgpost-4673-0-87288700-1491840705_thumb.jpg

Woman runs onto motorway, after her dog. Transit van hits her and she is killed. = anyone know/care how vandriver feels.. ??

Dangerous business this 'being in charge of a motor vehicle'... You liberty is at stake

That idiot with a Yaris that doesn't know how to park is starting to argue with my neighbours. I think he'll be put in his place before long.

MOT is nearly out on the Civic, I imagine it will need too much to be worthwhile. Won't make a proper thread yet, but does anyone in the SE area have a Focus sized car (anything bigger won't fit on the drive) with working air con?

Today I has mostly been turd polishing,

50/50 bonnet shot.

Looks a bit smarter than it did.

Move that french thing. It's in the way of an FE estate!

The FE is an even bigger turd than the 205 8)

Last night I was looking up "name" number plates on Totalcarcheck - was surprised to find that DAV1D isn't currently on a vehicle, so I tried various other names and the first one which actually came up with a result was COL1N, which is a 2012 RR Phantom.

Guess what I passed on the way home from work this evening?

I like those big Vauxhalls and the way the load space has to suffer for style.

My brother sent me a picture of me with my first car. I only have one other photo of it.

I must have been killing animals at the time.

Looks like a scene from the Professionals !

I had an interesting phone call this morning. "I am interested in your Rolls Royce, who do I make the cheque out to". He seems a nice bloke and not another Eastern European timewaster, but I think I would of asked a few more questions before getting the cheque book out. He has been quoted over 400 quid to transport it to Sussex if anyone wants a job.

After being informed that for a modern SEAT, keeping up with the Volvo on a midnight run to McDonalds was "surprisingly difficult", I have decided two things.

1: I really, really like live-axle Volvo 700s.

2: I need to fix the speedometer.

3: I really need to stop listening to Die Antwoord's "Mount NInji and Da Nice Time Kid".

The 740 is getting a new rocker cover gasket and injector seals this week, and I'm resoldering the wire on the bonnet lamp.

Must find time to get across and look at CraigThePrincess' 940 Turbo. Having to change gears vs. TURBO. Hmmm...

Me too. I had a VX2300 Auto estate back in 2001 - I doubt it still exists, but I sold it filled with NOS repair panels. If I could weld I would take on another FE happily, particularly a wagon.

Dream would be a Victor 3300 SL wagon, with Ventora front end/dash/seats (wonder if the 4-seat layout of the Ventora could be translated to the folding bench), in metalflake purple with white vinyl top and while mag wheels...

Thought I'd better look at what sort of mileage I'm covering in the next week. A session on Google maps reckons about 1000. In the 2CV. Crivens.

TURN UP!

*shatters windows with the bassline, gets speeding ticket, etc.*

I rather like that album too. Doesn't do the fuel consumption any favours though.

I have asked David if he would like to quote as his prices are really good but Sussex is a long way from home for him.

The Blue Rebel Van passed its MOT today, The GTE passed last week. I'm still thinking of selling the Van but I'm having an attack of CBA!

Really need to get on and get one of the Scimitar GT projects on the road ready for getting painted in the summer.
