Quick run out today.

Actually, I had a quick run out yesterday too, but it was pouring with rain and not much fun. Demisting not a strong point. Far nicer today. Was just running the Starlet's brake drums down to the local garage so they can fit new bearings. An eight-mile round trip, but with a serious hillclimb on the way back. Pleased to report no oil pressure issues. She was ticking over like a champ when we got back. Lovely.

 

Sadly, she still feels down on power on full throttle, and there's a strong petrol smell when doing that too. Just not pulling cleanly, though I should remember that the 2CV also seriously struggles up this particular hill. Maybe I'm expecting too much. She still goes well on the flat.

I was going to say she fair pulled away quick when viewed from the 2cv. Quicker that my Rialto off the mark.

Yes, she's very quick off the mark, but hillclimbing is really not her forte...

Does that mean you were carrying a passenger  :shock:  on the return journey DW or did you wait for the Starlet to be completed before coming back?

Watched another vid of a different Invacar, and it went 'tuc' just like the little TWC does. Bisarrely, the handbrake on that appeared to br on the left

No. TWC transported the Starlet's drums. The Starlet did not move.

Controls could be set for how the user needed them. My spares car has handbrake on the left.

Yep, there are dozens of control combinations. Mine Has the handbrake on the left like DW's spares car, but differs in that my choke/heater controls are on the floor by the gear selector to the right of the seat rather than above the windscreen.

 

Must have been confusing as hell at the factory sometimes!

imagine getting given the wrong "spec" invacar! knowing the government im sure thats happened to some poor person...

No. TWC transported the Starlet's drums. The Starlet did not move.

That looks like a Model 57 I think, so some Petite thinking, but a bit different. Petites seem to have an extra side window.

I'm more concerned by the fact that the bloke next to the Invacar is apparently just finishing up having a piss while the bloke by the J van is quite obviously curling one out.

Anyway, today, I took a historical trip back through time. Bet no-one has taken a photo of an Invacar here before.

Just another run out - I'm trying to have a drive every day. Definitely getting better all of the time. I've rigged up a bungee chord to hold it in gear, and that's working fine. Occasionally it twangs as the bungee does its job, usually as I come off the power. I think this confirms my thought that the engine/transmission moves, but the gear selector cannot (as it is attached to the chassis). So, it pops out of gear.

I learnt long ago never to go anywhere near Rhayader when the carnival is on. Welsh lads are strong and can apparently lift up the rear of 2CVs quite easily...

I listened to Richard Brunning of Binky fame on a podcast yesterday, and a certain youtube channel was mentioned, that happens to feature a Birmingham person with a beard & glasses, with a crap car fetish, you need to pop down to Shropshire to do a vid with them Ian, the trouble is if you go in TWC, they will probably fit an Imprezza turbot engine, and do some fiendishly overcomplex fabrication whilst you pop for a wazz
