I need a car with MOT for £50, local to Norfolkshire

Hi all,

Pending not winning the 306 Roffle, I am in need of the above.

Long and short of it is at work they do a Car Share where each month someone who participates gets picked out of a hat and wins £100.

Basically, I won this month. I decided rather than pocketing the £100, I'd set a Top Gear style challenge with the other chap.

Split the £100 between us.

£50 each to buy a roadworthy car with at least a couple of months MOT. Points for the best car for £50.

Use those cars for the next month of Car Sharing.

Make a video, take some photos, laugh.

Realise at the end of it we have two old shitters to roffle/scrap/fall in love with.

Anyone able to help?

I don't mind spending my own hard earned cash on a months tax/insurance but I don't want to spunk loads on travelling costs.

Cheers in advance.

Use the WilsonWilson patented* ebay search within 25 miles under £50 ending soonest method.

You will struggle. TG 'challenges' are a load of tosh. Buying one car between you for £100 will open more possibilities I suspect.

Scrap (around here) is £70/tonne right now, would you sell a car with MOT left for under scrap value?

Absolutely unlikely, however I've seen cars being given away for free on here with MOT so there's still hope.

I totally agree with it being a load of tosh however this is £100 that I won, I won't miss it as I never had it.

No harm in trying I guess, will keep an eye on the bay.

Thanks & that

Spend the £50 that you never had and will never miss on not winning other roffles?

You're going to buy a car each encouraged by the scheme that makes you only use one between you?

Fantastic.

Isn’t this Autoshite?! Surely I should be encouraged to spend money on shit cars?

Well they'd only use them one at at time. Sounds like a great idea, WCPGW?

Oh absolutely - I don't think it was clear from my post but this is absolutely fucking amazing, I wasn't being sarcastic :D

You'll probably get more visibility on this post in the main section and since it's chod related I don't see any reason for it not to be there. Want me to move it?

Please, very kind!

Gumtree may be the way forward as people seem less clued to up to bridge prices there.

I'm not happy about the Focus seller's choice of footwear,

Frankly they bother me.

any kudos in an 800mile round trip collect of said sub £50 motor?*

Not that I have anything, just wanted to lob it into the melting pot

*clearly that sort of thing would win you much approval on here, wanted to find out if there is any handicap rating should you travel to the ends of the country whereas your colleague buys one from his grans neighbour?

main stealers trade in stock is sometime worth a punt. even at £50 it saves them the agro of lobbing chod through auction etc

You'll struggle to find one that will sell you a car for £50 - PX straight to auction is the most common policy.

I'd do an 800 mile round trip if the means of getting to said kollecshuninning didn't cost me the earth.

I haven't got anything useful to add, except, good luck!

If scrap is £70 can't see how you'll get a car for £50.

The Dealers won't want to know because they usually have contacts that take everthing if it doesn't go to auction. Ultimately they aren't in the business of sellling bangers, they want a quick decision, they haven't the time for joe public having a look at the history and a test drive etc.

Why don't you up your budget to £300 or so, 99% of the £100 spears or reapers stuff is crap that would cost much more to put to a roadworthy standard.

I think the budget is part of the challenge rather than wanting a long term personal conveyance. At any rate a £50 eBay find is likely to provide lots of excitement* for the OP. Collection thread when you find something PLZ!

The only place I have found as a source of £50 cars is my friendly mot place.

It is not uncommon for people to literally walk away from a failure.

The Good. You know exactly what it needs for a test.

The Bad. The cars are utterly unloved.

The Ugly. In my experience they are either terminally rotten Kas or slightly knackered Rovers.

I'm gonna call this now.

You'll get something, but you might have to go without lunch for a couple of days.

£65 I can see you in something.

Not good, mind...

If you offered £50 for this PT cruiser you might well get it

It does need* a £160 battery (fancy underseat job)and makes an alarming noise on full lock though.

Pm any offers this way with a phone number and I'll pass them on.

The shadow would say £50 is frivolous...

Also it is fucking miles from Norfolk but we seem to drive out there most weeks so could potentially give you a lift back to Ludlow and a JumpStart.

You can fit a regular battery under the seat on those Cruisers.

Bloody hell that's a bargain! How easy would a diesel pump be to fit outside the blokes house though?
