Secret cars

After I read this by anonymous user on the grin thread

The other thing that was there for ages was a Fiesta Van, we eventually worked out that it belonged to a colleague who had sadly died, his widow didn't know that he owned it.

I started thinking how many users on here have secret cars hidden that their partners don't know about, I haven't but that's because Mrs fp isn't really fussed what I buy, what about you guys?

Tell you all what.... I've got no secret cars, so if you want to admit to one but are worried you will get caught out by (S/H)WMBO then PM me and I'll post it here anonymously ;-)

I owned a Yugo for a few years without actually telling anyone. I kept it in a lock-up. No one would really have had any problem with it, I was just a bit embarrassed to admit it!

When my mother was still alive I had secret motorbikes, after she died it didn't matter who knew. I did "own" a car for a mate once, which he then "bought" off me later on "as a favour".

Well that was the story at the time

No secret ones, but had a Mitshuthingy Colt once, gave £50 for it, was hand painted matt chassis black, (used to work on HGVs).

My son said "when you pick me up from school, hide it round the back".

Me, Why?

Son, "They call it Shine".

My cars aren't secret, but then they are also no one else's business either.

Wife knows about my cars but hasn't seen them in the metal for obvious reasons. Parents and some family knew but I was then harangued to bin them (which wouldn't have made much of a difference to my situation anyway) I just told them 'I'd got rid of a few' for appeasements sake, hence my above mentioned stand that I now have taken.

I did once partly 'own' a Mk3 K-reg Vauxhall Astra 3-door many years ago (2002 I think) before I had a licence, we were intending to use it as an alternative to the bus/walking. Astra had been modified etc... but needed £600 worth of work including a new clutch, tyres, MOT etc... Myself and the mate who owned the other part couldn't scratch 2 pence between us so Astra was scrapped not long after and I never saw the £35 I put into it  We all make mistakes etc...

I work for a huge company. Massive. When one guy saw the Sierra bASe in the car park he told me about a guy working elsewhere.

Apparently his wife noticed car tax on the bank statements for cars that he'd sold. Although he hadn't. She complained to neighbours about cars in the street that were in fact his. The biggest victory was the ice cream van he owned without her even knowing.

He now just hides them around town by street parking and keeping documents 'on the down low'

If I mention the secret MK2 Escort Mexico I keep squirrelled away in the lock-up as my retirement fund, I won't have it for very long. Especially as the garage door doesn't lock and the keys are behind the sunvisor.

I have a motorbike that is a secret from my mother.   As she lives in London it's not hard to keep.   I have also given serious consideration to having a secret 1980 Supra but luckily it sold before I could dig that particular hole.

I do have the ex Rob T Astra in a lock up which no-one knows about.  No-one, well except you lot.

I will reveal it when the fleet is a bit more under control, though it is possible that no-one in the family will actually notice.

My Sierra isn't a secret, but I reckon everyone has forgotten it.

I had a road legal 1982 YZ490 that I forgot to mention to the wife. With 1982 spec exhaust silencing. :-)

She found it in the conservatory (another story) luckily with no lead pipe

when i got the rover 75, i traded the micra which had been me mothers in against it.

mother had loved the micra, almost as mush as i hated the bloody thing!!

it was over a year before i admitted that the micra had gone, and the crumby (older) rover had replaced it!

Is that the one you built from a new shell?

Nothing that's a secret, yet. My parents would be far from impressed if I gained another shoddy motor...

Couldn't possibly comment Rover, NYPD.

I used to hide stuff from the ex wife (when we were together), and I lied something chronic about the cost of one of my civic rally cars I had years ago. She pulled me over it and was fit to tell me exactly what it cost me! Current purchase (samba cabrio) is hidden from current lady friend (who stipulates one in and one out as I've got 8 cars and 4 bikes). Collection Fred imminent!

I don't have a partner, so I have no reason to keep my chod a secret.

I don't have secrets, so I keep my chod a partner.

Mine aren't secret as the other half doesn't really care what I own which suits me fine. She has zero interest. She's never driven any of them even though she's on the insurance. I think she'd rather take the bus!

Cars are not an issue; this is me though:

When I think "ooo I should clean up the wheels of xyz", the thought process goes very rapidly from 80 grit wet'n'dry, past professional restore of wheels and on to £4K wet blaster cabinet, and uv wheel curing paint cabinet.

I literally look at tools and imagine a use case for them, and begin to justify their purchase to myself.

Yep, that's me too, only with my models.

When married and at home, never hid anything as our lass was as into cars and bikes as me, and anyway, she always used to come with me to collect them. Now, obviously I don't tell Phoebe and Chester  about the cars as: A, they wouldn't listen. B, they wouldn't care. C, So long as it gets them to the park, Pets at Home and anywhere else nice (not the vets!) then it's fine!

However, when but a 15 year old sprog, myself and several friends rented a lock-up (big bugger - love to have it now) to keep all our bikes in. Not one of us was old enough to own/insure/ride a motorcycle and our bikes ranged from a CB250 to a CB750! When we hit 16 a variety of mopeds moved in as well and they occasionally got taken home, but the larger bikes got larger and faster and more secret. It was all going sooooooo well until one of us (me) parked a Kawasaki S2 (350 2 stroke triple, drum brake awesome!) into the back of a parked Transit van... the whole pack of cards came tumbling down and there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth heard throughout the village and nearby towns/cities/counties...

Oh, and my friends all hated me for ages but I didn't really care as I was in the fracture factory for five months which was plenty of time for them to get over it! :)

@eddyramrod Shhhhh! She doesn't know about them either! As I'll never afford my dream garage, I've been buying it in 1/24 scale to complete if I ever get to retirement age.

Yep, that's me too, only with my models.
