Car-plans for 2016?

Heyho!

You knew there would be a thread for this and I hope I have not overlooked one if there is already one in existance.

So I would like to know what plans you all have for 2016 when it comes to cars. With pictures, if you would be so kind.

I´ll start...

My green garage-queen aka Pajero 2.5 TD will stay, no matter what. It will come out of it´s hibernation in April and will be

on the road on nice and sunny days until October. No plans for it, just to keep it as nice as it is.

The V6 is not that save. All depends on how it is surviving the winter (rust, wearout) and how interesting it still is for me in spring.

I may sell it, or maybe not. Not sure yet. Will be spontaneous.

dscn4021.jpg

The Buick is not save too. Depends on how it behaves and if there is a big aka expensive problem on the horizon with the

"Transmission Component Slipping"-failure-code. With a knackered trans, it will become a garden planter, the seats will be

used in the living room or in my home-office.

If one or two cars disappear (respectively get sold or chopped up  ) from my drive, there may be another Pajero coming,

a Mk. II this time. And a Volvo would be nice just because of the seats. But all may be different, just wait and see what comes

my way in 2016.

Now you!

I'm bloody terrible with pics but you can just about see our three here.

The Landcruiser has been with us 12 months now, still can't decide whether to keep it permanently or just have another two years from it then get a 100 series Amazon, which i'm in two minds about cos you gain lots of luxury and hydraulic suspender ride at the expense of more electronics to go wrong, i'll probably nip into my favourite LPG man and see exactly how much the present one would cost to convert, its done around 114k miles but if i get it converted then that commits me to keeping it permanently, depends on the cost really, its not a simple conversion cos the present fuel tank is where the LPG tank will go, so it means a new small fuel tank too, still won't know till Joe has had a good butchers, he might say nah it simply aint worth doing, dunno really.

The Scooby Outback used almost exclusively by the Mrs just carries on doing its thing, thats on LPG too, just gone through the MOT with only both rear drop links changed, she loves it and its a keeper.

The Merc has been with us around 13 years now, it seldom gets used and has become more or less a driveway ornament, maybe this this spring she'll be sold on, top be honest i prefer the lorry like qualities of the Toyota and its limitation stop me driving like a cunt, which i do when i get in the Merc cos it goes like shit off a shovel and we've spent far too much keeping it up to scratch, its probably the best mechanically maintained example out there.

Drive my other cars more

I've been lazy and driven my Range Rover every day for the past two years, I've got cars sitting unloved that could be used for my daily commute

Posted

No pics but the plan is to get back into a Merc 190e . I got to know a guy locally when we were both on the same 190e forum and he has a gorgeous Sportline converted to gas but hasn't used it for a couple of years and I've been politely trying to cajole him into passing in to my custody for a full refurb.

Having said that a certain Chevy Caprice I posted about in the News24 thread has crept blindly into my view that is causing me to lose some sleep :?

My car plans for this year are the same as they have been for about the last 7 years - get the Volvo and the Renner Six sorted, cut down on the size of the fleet, and spend my summer doing something other than crawling around under cars every weekend.  I'm sure I'll be just as successful in 2016 as I was in 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010 and 2009.

I think my plans for 2016 will be a 100% active fleet expansion. That is, purchase another car for daily duties. I'm finding I'm having to use my Rover increasingly for work duties that include stick dirty great tote boxes on the leather seats and I don't like it - not to mention having to leave it parked unattended in various loading bays which I also do not like.

So I'll be looking at some form of estate for work and load lugging duties - which should also give me the freedom to get stuff more sorted on the Rover as it won't be needed 7 days a week like it is at the moment. I'm potentially thinking Saab 9-5 or Volvo V70 but, of course, subject to change depending on what day it is.

Respray MR2 and acquire a better conditon drivers seat, then maybe sell it.

Hopefully acquire an S2 RS Turbo in the next few weeks, if it is as good as it looks - then carry out the necessary repair/recommission work, roll around in it for a bit and either sell on, or keep (in place of MR2).

Keep buying and repairing late model, low mileage write-offs, and buying and selling any other cars I think I can tidy up and make a few quid on.

Sell my jetski (kinda car-related, it takes up as much room).

Start a motor trade policy.

Keep scanning driveways for interesting, laid up cars, follow up leads etc, as one day I hope to find a TA27 Celica or something, to restore and keep! :-)

Hopefully replace the daily with an estate variant, but that isn't a major priority.

I need to advertise and sell the current Cat D I have here, first.

That'll do for a start!

I want to fix the cortina then I'll probably sell it on.

This is stuck in my lockup as the garage door failed. I need to get the council out to fix the door then I want to get it mot'd. There's a few exterior crusty bits so I'm going to swap the wings and rear doors and get it tidied up. I also need to figure out why it's running a bit hot after it thomas the tank engined on the m8

I was looking for an MGZT260 but a CAT D one with damage and no mot went through eBay for near on 7 fucking grand this week so that's probably not going to happen now. failing that I've been looking at Mini Cooper-S's,  Renaultsport Clio's and BMW Z4's but I've not found one that's fit my requirements of being decent and cheap. Basically I want something fun that I can take stop some track days and not full of grot.

I also need to sell Mrc C's Audi A2 now we've got the Daihatsu.

Just been out to use the XM and the battery is flat again, nothing wrong with it, I've not used it for 3 weeks. Mrs Concern has now ordered that it gets sold as it's not used. She is right really. Need to MOT it (& Tax & insure) it now as well.

No planned buyage for me again this year (3rd year in a row....must be slipping/getting old)

190E - service/drive/MOT/drive/drive/drive/service.  Must  strip down o/s/r/ door trims and get the dent out of it.  Investigate nagging HGF possibility.

Minor - as above.  Throw some more money in the welding savings tin.

Cowley - Replace the knackered interior with a considerably less knackered one.  Investigate new exhaust and replace distributor.

T25 - This is the question mark vehicle.  It really needs front end rebushing, new carb, screen out for derusting and new rubber and a load of other niggles.  To get this useable for the summer means graft/expense for next 4 months.  Its quite safe where it is, nice and dry and if it stays there all summer I will have a spare space at home...

We have a folding caravan, towbars on the Morrises (but not yet the Merc) so I might decide to do without the camper this summer, work on it when its warm instead of freezing bloody cold and use the perfect excuse  to buy something nice to tow the caravan.....Triumph 2000, FE Vauxhall?   Maybe.

Aircooled Citroens

CWIpt8FXIAELmar.jpg

Dyane needs engine rebuilding (awaiting pistons and barrels) and is booked in for bodywork in March.

2CV is a bigger problem. I'm finding it very hard to commit to the idea of blowing such a huge chunk of cash on its revival. Its future is still to be determined.

Hopefully this pair will be sticking around. Caliper replacement needed on the XM, then MOT end of the month. Nippa MOT in March. It's only covered about 2200 miles since the previous one.

I shall return this to being a reliable, if cosmetically challenged, daily driver:

DSC_0059.jpg

This shall be brought into a state where it's usable (engine rebuild) and presentable (welding and bodywork) as a weekend/car show chariot:

20150823_145028.jpg

The Civic will be maintained as the ideal daily car/parts hauler/winter hack.

20151014_165620%20Copy.jpg

Right, so that's the bullshit out of the way.

In reality the 1850 will sit in my drive until the estate moan at me and it'll be turned in to a Zanussi washing machine.

The 1300 will sit in my parent's leaky garage until they moan at me and it'll be turned into a Zanussi washing machine.

The Civic's timing belt will snap because it's 7,000 miles overdue and I can't afford to have it done.

I'll be left without a functional car, will lose my job, run out of money and will jump of the viaduct above my house but somehow survive and merely be paralysed from the neck down for the rest of my miserable life.

Aims - Keep on top of the Land Rover, sell Smart and get something more user friendly, get TR7 on the road and then decide what to do with it.

The reality is more likely to be, get other people to do any work on the Land Rover, sell the Smart and buy something even less useable/sensible but bigger (like a Bentley 8, Bristol or Alvis) which will bankrupt me and forget all about the TR7, apart from the odd guilt trip, like I've done for the last four years.

Rover - to go

BX - to go

CX - undecided but I like it because of it's original thinking.

Interesting modern - in (strangely enough, something like an A2 or W169 A class)

Should we infer from this that the Picasso is automatic?  If so, talk to PBK, you might find a keen listener... ;)

This changes frequently, but current thoughts for 2016.

Sell: 1x Aerodeck (probably the blue one), Fiat Tipo, maybe Alfa 155, maybe Sera, maybe Storia #2 ... possibly others. Most need work before sale though.

Fix and use: Storia #1 - new head gasket plus a few service bits (parts on order). Galant Sapporo - possibly needs new engine. Umm - mainly cosmetic plus non-structural welding. Beta Spyder - twin carbs plus new roof to fit and cooling system to re-jig.

Purchase ... nothing particularly on the agenda, apart from a not urgent Boring replacement and maybe a mk1 Espace, Porsche 928 or something random that appears on the tat thread.

I've not got much planned, the Focus will be making way for a Civic Type R I think and I may buy a snotter, apart from that the Puma is staying and for the first time in god knows how long I'm not going to buy 3 or 4 different motorcycles this year as I've lost interest completely.

To finish the 3 door, I've only been waiting for it to go in for paint for about 2 1/2 years, that's the problem when you have high standards and you only trust one person to do it and they are very good at what they do, so are in demand, I've had a promise that it will be going in around late Feb, I'll believe it when I see it, I've ran out of things to spend money on until it's painted

Have a picture

This year I need to do any relevant work to the body and chassis of mrs fp's escort rs turbo so it can be repainted in the correct A9 black, it's going to look standard again

Panda 1 remains in storage.

100HP needs fettling.

and i'd like an auto-barge in a few months.

Posted

I also need to sell Mrc C's Audi A2 now we've got the Daihatsu.

These are on my increasingly lengthy shortlist.

Is there a thread on it somewhere? Been eying up 1.6FSI Sport models on eBay.

Posted

Citroen C5 1.6HDi.Keep servicing and hope nothing serious happens.

Kangoo 1.2 Kar.Maybe replace with diesel estate.

Peugeot 205 1.1.Retest and sell.

Polo 1.4 Saloon.Break for parts.

Saab 96 V4.Do small amount of welding, respray and get back on the road.

Posted

Minor: finish refitting brake parts, preferably in a fashion that they don't leak. Use when the roads stop getting salted.

Smart: look after and run as usual. 60k miles is on the horizon which is the "danger zone" for these engines so there could be some excitement there.

Focus: hopefully change for a Panda 100hp if I can find one with the electric roof that isn't a million miles away,

This year's resolutions are:

  • R16 still needs the brake light switch sorting out and a change of fluids, then it's MOT time.  Will do this once this bloody rain calms down a bit.
  • Finish rewiring the SD1 aft of the C-pillar and then it's MOT time for that too.  Radiator could do with a re-core, too, actually.
  • Once those are done, in springtime, I want to drag the Golf into the Big Shed and take it apart, clean and paint its nether parts and put it back together again in a piss-poor imitation of 4wheeledstool and the blue Cavalier.  This may or may not go well, but it's only a mk1 Golf so nobody on here will care much.  I'll probably sell it afterwards either way.

I'll probably sell (or maybe raffle) the Audi 80 later this year - I like it a lot, but I don't really need it and the others aren't getting used enough.  I'm also storing my nephew's Honda Civic while he travels the world so space is at a bit of a premium.

I might sell (or raffle) the Disco too if a really interesting load-carrying alternative comes along like a tasty Rancho or maybe a nice CX Safari.  Or a cheap 928.  Or a Renault 14.  Or something.
