Six-cylinder Posted April 30, 2023 Author Posted April 30, 2023 I made a start on the Peugeot 404 today simply changing the headlights so when Zel helps me he only has to find some electricity! Everything is against me rust, seized bolts of the wrong thread, poorly manufactured wing that do not have a flat surface and even block a fixing hole. I am short of the 3 pin connectors for the headlight bulbs and will also need some sort of earth cable as the original had a built in arrangement to the metal pod. To fit the modern headlights and keep the base plates that fit the special shaped trim ring is going to take a bit of engineering after I have derusted them. I also had a look at the indicator/side light and was surprised to find a dual filament bulb. Before I was even ready rain has stopped play. Dyslexic Viking, CaptainBoom, brownnova and 6 others 9

Six-cylinder Posted May 1, 2023 Author Posted May 1, 2023 This year is the Austin Allegro 50th anniversary and it is being celebrated at Gaydon on the 14th May. Our Vanden Plas version has been off the road due to minor rust and @Andyrew kindly said he would weld a patch on it. It has turned into a monster of a job with reconstructive surgery. We are so grateful that Andy is doing this and basically saving the car from certain death. I visited Andy today and the progress is good. catsinthewelder, Saabnut, brownnova and 12 others 15

Zelandeth Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 Sadly I'll be away in Birmingham that weekend so won't be able to make this one. Hopefully next one won't clash with the handful of fixed events in my calendar for the year. Mrs6C and Six-cylinder 2
Rust Collector Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 The stars may be aligning as I think I'm actually free that weekend, and I have at least one working shite car currently. I've asked my partner if she fancies coming with me, if we bring our son then surely that counts as a family day out?! 😅 Six-cylinder, brownnova, Mrs6C and 1 other 4
Six-cylinder Posted May 3, 2023 Author Posted May 3, 2023 Our living room is turning into a parts store for the Vanden Plas. We also have a replacement interior to smarten it up, well inside anyway! Mrs6C, Rust Collector, chaseracer and 5 others 8
wuvvum Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 I love how you offset the fact that the armchair is taken up by Allegro seats by having an Allegro seat that you can use as an armchair. Mrs6C, Six-cylinder, Crackers and 3 others 1 5
Six-cylinder Posted May 3, 2023 Author Posted May 3, 2023 I had a call from my favorite garage today to say their usual supplier for reconditioning the Manta front brake calipers could not obtain the seals. I contacted Bigg Red in Worcester and they said they could recondition the calipers for me. I then had to collect them, package them and take them to the post office, luckily I have the Seicento for such work. richardmorris, LightBulbFun, ProgRocker and 3 others 6
