I'd like to point out that all I did was turn up, make sympathetic noises, agree with the diagnosis and then follow/lead the way. Phil did the hard work of making an exceptional purchase of a car that's not been taxed for 16 years and attempt to drive it halfway across the country, which should be saluted.

 

It was a bit like Smokey and the Bandit, except with less Trans Am and Kenworth, and more Peugeot hirecar and Princess. And less Sally Fields and police. And more smell of hot engine.

I possess an amusing selection of tools, off road dumping ground and may possibly turn up in a laughably underpowered K11 Micra.

 

However if you phone me whilst at work, you will be screwed as they dont allow mobiles in the big house and I work some very long shifts. But dont worry, we dont eat Southerners any more*** in Lancashire so you will be quite safe* whilst you wait.

I could have had my butler bring you out milky tea, soup, blankets - stuff like that & he could have brought lots of water for you to re-fill,

then you could have followed him home and parked somewhere in the grounds overnight and slept in the gatehouse.

 

I'd have wanted you gone before the rest of the staff were up though.

Contrary to my amusing* user name I'm not in Norfolk but Milton Keynes, so anyone that needs anything either towing to a safe albeit on road place or broken further by a clumsy oaf that should only be allowed to work on old Land Rovers,is welcome to PM me.

You'll be pleased to know that my Chrysler can tow a TD5 Disco on a bit of string at up to 90 quite safely * and legally*. Anything lighter/ more aerodynamic should get us past my 100mph record that I set in 1983 with an SD1 and Mk2 Escort,incidentally both times with the same brother on the rope.
