dollywobbler
I can confirm it toothe shape just fans the dirty water across the screen where it sits in the middle Ford knew they had a problem with this and from 85> the fitted deflectors to the rear quarter window rubbers to break up the airflow and standardised the rear wash wipe on eveything except base models I thought the reason for the deflectors was to improve cross-wind stability? laser wheels
Brill! Interesting having had a later one toSee all the details that mark out the earlier of the species. But what the hells the thing on the rear parcel shelf? It's a storage box! Clever, eh? Not sure if this was Ghia specific or what. Hadn't even notice it until I was taking the photies of the boot! Sadly it wasn't full of weed/fivers, just a Dettol wipe. I know what you mean about having a later model as well; my K-plater did feel a lot more modern inside with better plastics and more cubby holes etc. and I do miss having that big padded arm rest, although I can see how some may not have liked the big transmission tunnel that came with it. In fact I would say the run out model I had felt more like a 90s car whereas this feels more like an older car in a posh frock. Without a doubt though I much prefer the looks of the MK1. My MK2 was a handsome thing all right but that switch to a more traditional front end I think lost it its' character and personality.
trigger
I think that was a first aid box on the parcel shelf.
greengartside
That Ghia I worked on at college had a storage box on the back shelf too. What is that Ford-branded thing in the boot? Toolkit?
Stixy
I thought the reason for the deflectors was to improve cross-wind stability? No they just keep the rear screen cleaner , drive both types in the rain and you will see GL's had the first aid box too but not the sunblinds laser wheels
laser wheels
I thought the reason for the deflectors was to improve cross-wind stability? Yeah, I read that on Wikipedia! To be honest it didn't feel too bad today at all on the motorway and if I'm honest I can't imagine anything being worse than my old Bluebird which was just scary in a cross wind. They are feeling a bit fragile so didn't want to mess about with them too much! *EDIT* Just checked the original bill of sale and yes! The blinds where factory optioned! Shep Shepherd
Superb! If it was my car, I'd be looking on eBay for some contemporary Ford accessories to fit to it, starting with a high-spec AM/FM stereo cassette player. An ECU 1 or E-SRT 42 PS-B would be my preference: http://autoshite.com/topic/15250-1985-ford-accessories-brochure-scan/ laser wheels
laser wheels
If anyone is interested the original price of this was £7543.39 from Glebe Garage, Widnes, Cheshire. Sadly they no longer seem to exist or if they do not as a Ford dealers. Did a quick google for some period pics but nowt. Interestingly, at the top of the invoice it states 'ex-works'. Any idea what this might mean? Shep Shepherd and Angrydicky
Shep Shepherd
^ I think 'ex-works' means the selling price exclusive of 'out of the factory' costs, such as delivery charges, tax, number plates, etc. laser wheels
Guest Tony Hayers
I always though it strange that it was only the Mk1 Orion and early Sierra Ghia that had the ribbed rear lights. Why didn't ford include it on the Fiesta rear lights? (Escort/Capri/Granada excluded - slatted units)
laser wheels
And now some en-jun pics. All this black stuff is apparently rust proofing. Hmmm, this battery doesn't look quite right to me. A bit small? Works okay enough.

laser wheels
I have recently notice that the temperature gauge is not reading anything, which seems a bit odd. Could it be broken? Or is it simply running very cool? In other news got pulled by the BiB about a minute from my front door - nothing serious, just the registered owner not updated yet, wanted to check my papers etc. - but the first thing he says when I get in his big car is 'don't see many of them about anymore'. Been hearing that one a lot lately!

laser wheels
Is your heater hot ? Most pinto's benefit from a new thermostat and temp sender and while its mouth is open change the cam belt Now you come to mention it I have been quite impressed with the heater in this thing! Right then I'll add thermostat and temp sender to list of things to do. Is the cam belt hard to do on these? Please bear in mind I am a complete novice at this but this car could be a good place to learn!
Stixy
If your heater is good you probably just need a new temp sender , have you tested the gauge by earthing the wire ? Cam belt is quite easy look in the manual laser wheels

Cam belt is quite easy look in the manual Cheers! One more question, though - is it worth just doing the belt, or would you recommend getting a full 'kit' and doing the water pump etc. as well? In other news have now purchased a StopLock and a K&N air filter as Demon Tweeks were flogging them cheap on ebay. So I just thought, y'know, because K&N and I should never need to buy another air filter ever again (apparently). Meh, it was only £17 so no great loss if it makes sod all difference. Also tried registering for the Ford Sierra Owners club forum but apparently can't due to them not liking Gmail and me not having an in depth knowledge of the characters of Futurama. So, er, fuck it then. Stixy and DVee8

Stixy
I diddnt know the forum had moved on to Futurama , perhaps Leela has a Sierra The water pump isnt driven by the cam belt so if its ok just leave it alone , Belt kits are ok ut its unlikely you will need a tensioner laser wheels

Good to know as well as a full kit is a good bit more expensive than the belt on it's own! I'm going to try and crack on with cleaning some of the interior this weekend. Like this nasty stuff. I'm thinking Stardrops and a stiff brush? Thankfully it's all bone dry in here so no nasty damp just lot's of 'orrible brown stains. Sadly no sign of the air filter as I was hoping to get that done this weekend. And just wanted to add 200 miles since last Saturday and been sweet as a nut! trigger
Pillock
Yep, it's a toolkit, complete I think but for a pair of pliers! I'll have a look around for the pliers.... my mum had one of those toolkits, I've still got a few of the Ford branded spanners in my kit but the box itself cracked so badly it was binned. I've got a feeling they were red handled ones.
Stixy
If you use a stiff brush on the headlining it will go baggy and look horrible if you use any kind of cleaning soloution on the headlining it will baggy look horrible if you stare hard at the headlining it will go baggy look horrible you will be very lucky if it just stays as it is and not go baggy and look horrible Sierra Ghia headlining is very poor the fabric is sponge backed and glued onto cardboard but the problem is the spong breaks down and the fabric falls off it fordperv
Conrad D. Conelrad
I diddnt know the forum had moved on to Futurama , perhaps Leela has a Sierra No, but Amy's car was a Beta Romeo (bought at the dealership where a salesman showed Fry the Thundercougarfalconbird), Fry was said to have owned a Chevrolet Chevette in the 20th Century, and he briefly drives a preserved (but misidentified) AMC Pacer in another episode. Another episode features a VW type 2 extensively. Is that enough Futurama knowledge to be allowed onto the Ford Sierra website? fordperv and Stixy
