phil_lihp Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 I'm thinking the perfect R8 might be a BRG SEi with a (oiltight) T-series in it. trigger 1
Mr_Bo11ox Posted March 15, 2015 Author Posted March 15, 2015 I wonder if it might be one with a 135 (ex-MG TF) 1.8 k-series in it. Same bhp as the T-series, about half the engine weight and 100% more oiltightness. phil_lihp 1
holbeck Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 I stand to be corrected, but I don't think any regular R8's (not coops or estates) had the 1.8 (or 1.6) K
Mr_Bo11ox Posted March 15, 2015 Author Posted March 15, 2015 Yeah you're right, you would have to assemble it yourself obvs but that ought to be fairly starightforward
holbeck Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Yeah, I just twigged you were talking about a creation of the ideal
Mr_Bo11ox Posted March 15, 2015 Author Posted March 15, 2015 Or what about this one? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rover-214-/271805962754? 1.4 8v 'miserable bastard special' with 13" wheels! This car is amazing Go on..... 4 speed fan for the heater keeping you warm or hot if you wish even on the coldest days. Various heat settings and with the heater off it can blow cold air to cool you in the summer. FUCK! Alexg, vulgalour, laser wheels and 7 others 10
phil_lihp Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 There's no way those wheels are right, they've got to be off a 111i, they look like trolley castors. Seems to be running comically oversized tyres as well. 4 speed fan though, tempting.
Lacquer Peel Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 They're right, mingebag R8s had 13" wheels, and Metro wheels wouldn't fit. Do you not fancy a diesel one? Bonus* free 216SLi.
RobT Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 This thread keeps on winning. Saving knackered Rovers is such a noble cause. What's wrong with the SEi Reg?
Mr_Bo11ox Posted March 15, 2015 Author Posted March 15, 2015 heres an up-and-running 75k 3-dr in Preston with a shortish MOT for 125 BIN!!! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111620699170 Looks like a good scrub would work wonders on this Vince70 and Cavcraft 2
Mr_Bo11ox Posted March 23, 2015 Author Posted March 23, 2015 the lad selling the green 214 seems extremely thick, making him very difficult to deal with. After a couple of days I got an ebay notification thing through saying he wanted to cancel the sale. I asked him why he was doing that - he didnt answer, so i turned down the request. Then he sent me a message saying 'Its on Gumtree & swapz' - I dont even know why he was telling me this. I asked him again why he wanted to cancel the sale and after a couple more days he replied with 'I want to cancel the order' - helpful. Now i see he's relisted it on eBay!!! I told him before i bid that I could not collect straight away but he seems to have decided to relist it anyway. I'm tempted to bid on it again (he's got another bidder this time). I should be back in the UK later this week so if I can keep the flippin game going long enough I should be able to go up and collect it from manchester. Cavcraft, Coprolalia, EssDeeWon and 4 others 7
crapcarcollector Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Good plan. The green one does look lush.
UltraWomble Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 . I'm tempted to bid on it again (he's got another bidder this time). I should be back in the UK later this week so if I can keep the flippin game going long enough I should be able to go up and collect it from manchester.Have you "another" account ( or the current Ms Bo11?) Use that - then when you win it with account 2 not only can you neg him with account 1 but frighten the life out of him by threatening to sue for the cost of an equal car him for non-completion of the contract.Perhaps Im twisted, or more likely its been a long night shift and Im pissed off, but thats what I would be tempted to do. eddyramrod, TRW and mat_the_cat 3
406V6 Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 If he's such a t**t to deal with on ebay, what's he done (or not done) to the car over the years ?
dollywobbler Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Indeed. Always judge the seller as weĺl as the vehicle, even at our end of the market. Not like R8s are rare.

Blimey, he sounds like a proper cabbage, even by eBay standards. Dealing with folks like that seems too much like hard work to me.
KruJoe Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 To some of us, cases like that are a challenge, and more rewarding once we've won! vulgalour, chaseracer, sporty-shite and 4 others 7
dollywobbler Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 To some of us, cases like that are a challenge, and more rewarding once we've won! Well, yes. I am recalling Will's ridiculous exploits... outlaw118, chaseracer, KruJoe and 1 other 4
Lankytim Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Maybe the gearbox has been stolen? Cavcraft, Heidel_Kakao, Dick Cheeseburger and 1 other 4
Split_Pin Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Crumbs, you do like a challenge! Mind you if its as half as funny as Billys dealings with a Corsa seller via a verbal relay with his Maw then its totally worth it.
worldofceri Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 From the slightly odd use of English I'd wager this guy is a forriner.
Mr_Bo11ox Posted March 26, 2015 Author Posted March 26, 2015 I emailed him saying 'Oi! Why are you readvertising this!!!' and would you believe it he pulled the ad and told me to come and collect it. Then a day later I got a message off him saying he'd been offered an iPhone5 for it and could we cancel the deal. I didnt reply then a couple of hours later got another message saying 'Forget that previous message' :-D Anyway I'm back in the UK now so should be able to sort something in the next few days. In other news the V5 has come through for the J-reg so I have stopped worrying about it being dodgy. scruff, Vince70, Cavcraft and 4 others 7
Jim Bell Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 I'll swap him for 5 iphone1s. Vince70, Dick Cheeseburger, dieselassist and 2 others 5
HMC Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Your typical R8 owner these days sounds like a right chancer!
mouseflakes Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Your typical R8 owner these days sounds like a right chancer! What about the people who buy their cast-offs? What the heck must they be like? Lacquer Peel and HMC 2
Pillock Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 I don't reckon you'll have a single problem with a seller that pulls an advert three times, tries to gazump you with a mobile phone offer, and generally seems like he doesn't understand how normal people behave. If - IF - you ever get this car, I reckon you'll find some bizarre stuff in it. Including but not limited to needles, letters from the police, a length of rope, a teaspoon and loads of smashed security tags from TK Maxx Essex V6, eddyramrod, Angrydicky and 6 others 9
Vince70 Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 I would knock him down to an iPhone 3 (only 8 gig mind )and after much bartering throw in broken PS3 and a Betamax video player. You could always go round the sellers with a boot full of dodgy broken obsolete electrical items and ask what he's willing to go up to.It's mad that a decent little low mileage car with a few years use in it is so worthless at least old Rovers can't go down in value any more than that and I can't see any deprecation in the old girl. It looks like the kind of car that upto about 3/4 years ago was most probably some elderly owners pride and joy and was maintained regardless of cost and it's good to see it's going to a good home again. It doesn't look like its parked up in the Bronx so my guess is it's a thick youngster who's a sandwich short of a picnic and maybe it was his grandfathers pride and joy and he can't afford the insurance or he thinks that because it's not a lowered VAG or Corsa it has no value.Even if it is a kettle and completely knackered you can't really lose as it's an abundance of spares if nothing else and the interior looks in great order. coalnotdole 1
They_all_do_that_sir Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Think I'd run a mile so massive kudos for having the stones to chase this one. The Rover will no doubt be so excited at the prospect of a decent service it'll piss itself. Via the headgasket. Twiggy 1
