magnificently shoddy, but still a daily driver. I managed to speak to the owner, an elderly Italian chap who’s had it from new. He took my number and said I could come and see it another time after he cleans it..!

Couple of out-and-about snaps, courtesy of my ever-alert co-driver:

Couple of 2CVs, presumably on the return leg of a wintry Antrim Coast Road drive.

B616NAJ - clearly enthusiast owned, and tidy but well used.

MSL979 - a few mods, but in good fettle overall. Nice to see stuff getting used.

And here's an eyesight test for you...

Spot the shite, anyone?

Anyone?

Bit of a zoom, maybe...?

Just above the modern Pug's roof!Luckily we got through the Abbeycentre traffic and managed to catch up with this gloriously shonky Montego Estate.

A fairly late example on an L-reg, with grey primer visible round the arches.

Clearly, there's an unapologetic shiter in the Belfast area that I'm unaware of...

Hmmmm, thats an iffy one. Registered as a 1956 car. I can see not one single 1956 part on that car.

Lets put it this way, that is about as legit as a pre suffix registered mini with internal door hinges

There was nowhere for me to pull in and get a proper shot and there was someone coming up behind me so I had to make do with a quickie out the window.

A couple of 60/s/70s bangers, the Avenger has been seen before, the Capri used to be local to me and has been in various states of 'repair' for years.

I'm not an LR-perv but this was nice to see yesterday, I think the Hi-cap is my favourite Defender variant.

It's not a Defender.

It's a 1982 Land Rover Series 3 Hi-Cap.

Defenders do not start until 1990 and have Zebedee springs, not leafs

"History

Originally, these vehicles were simply called the 'Land Rover' – an off-road capable car model of the Rover Company.

As 'Land Rover' became established as a brand, the 'Series' indication later became a retronym model name.[9]

The Range Rover was introduced in 1970, and the company became a British Leyland subsidiary in 1978.

In 1983 and 1984, the long and the short wheelbase Land Rovers were given official names – the One Ten, and the Ninety respectively.

Together they were badged the Defender models in 1990, after the 1989 introduction of the new Discovery model."

I agree with you it's a lovely example.

Thanks, yes I thought the Defender name came later; I suppose I was being lazy.

That will be one of the first; the HCPU was only introduced in 1982.

Thanks, yes I'd have perhaps not got the shot were it a Defender; although it did look quite incongruous in the retail park regardless of age. While we're at it here's another LR from just around the corner. I'm not sure I've ever seen it on the move.
