Some more unboxing was done yesterday...

Hot Wheels:

Some of the Premiums and Silver Series picked up over the last few weeks.

image.jpg.14cea17c70ed78877f0952052f3130d5.jpg

Better out than in.

IMG_20260515_1455422.jpg.f8919de2d6be2b039751e39cee1fa9c7.jpg

Some really nicely detailed castings here!

GR Yaris is maybe a bit of a leftfield choice for Mattel, even though the real life car is a phenomenal pocket rocket and very much deserving of a miniature version.

Not sure what the 'Murican collectors will make of a tiny Toyota , but that's kinda their problem.

Conversely, Testarossa is kind of the iconic sports car to anyone growing up in the '80s.

Weighty and very nicely detailed, it's maybe not a car that I personally aspire to - but I couldn't pass this up when I found it in Smyths.

IMG_20260515_1456332.jpg.fe34df198c372bd754bf3bd322dd8446.jpg

Datsun 510 Bluebird is a casting I already have as a few mainlines, but a bit of extra detail really makes it.

IMG_20260515_1456162.jpg.07f47eca37fd2c0f255406c5f3e548d3.jpg

IMG_20260515_1456382.jpg.b0ec05f4d07a2c9ca305d4bd8461ca74.jpg

I'd thought this Galaxie was the same casting as the Mercury Cyclone, but it's not - similar, but bigger and with different rear lights.

Lovely big thing!

Some Matchbox were also freed:

image.jpg.4ea7855445f54c98f2d025bfb01e6973.jpg

While I do enjoy the packaging art, I also enjoy handling them too much to leave them in their plastic blisters.

image.jpg.6a3d0ebd5a084162dca2ec3fa726ebc8.jpg

Go free, little ones.

image.jpg.08c998c7e497d6e5a031af60347e82ab.jpg

Just like that.

IMG_20260515_1504412.jpg.73d53bb375f6af5a4e866591b594dbe2.jpg

GMC Sierra 3500 wrecker is well detailed on the front and sides, with the added bonus of an orange plastic lifting boom that lowers and raises.

OK, it's a bit plasticky and slightly loose, but still - always good to see a working feature on a Matchbox mainline. Yellow glazing is a little odd-looking, but necessary to allow the yellow light bar on top.

IMG_20260515_1504462.jpg.072bfc437acc391c31086046df1d03a1.jpg

2018 Toyota Land Cruiser is one that's grown on me - I deliberately didn't pick up the slightly paler first release last year, but it really is a nicely rendered model, with various items in the load bed to add more interest. I'd nabbed this purely to make up a three-for-two at Tescotainer, but I'm pleased I did now.

IMG_20260515_1504502.jpg.91362997efad37242951c9cbe2ad39bc.jpg

Mercedes Sprinter ambulance is one I'd been keenly anticipating for months now - I'll admit I was a bit disappointed when I realised the body is plastic, though. It's also a missed opportunity by leaving the front end blank - the GMC wrecker and the Land Cruiser both have printing to the sides and the front, yet this one does without such fripperies. Pity, it'd be so much better with the lights and grille in colour.

Still, maybe future releases will remedy this?

IMG_20260515_1504552.jpg.c7ba9db3ff6ed6b2398205c7aa4d5eba.jpg

Big Ford F-100 Ranger is another I'd been waiting impatiently to find.

The body's pretty well done, and I love the colours; though the filled-in quarterlights on the doors look a bit funny and the chromed grille looks a bit blobby somehow - there's not much depth or crispness to the features on it.

The new style of wheels here are amazing though, with the detailed spokes and raised lettering on the tyrewall.

IMG_20260515_1504382.jpg.7eec26824b27f86f299fc05c918b061c.jpg

Collectors Series Datsun 510 Bluebird Rallye is one I've dithered over for several years now - again, great casting and the detail on the roofrack junk is good, but I don't much care for the differently coloured wheels and the decals referencing another of the former Matchbox 'Ambassadors', John Yanouzas, bugs me a little - just seems a bit smug.

Maybe I'm just cranky because the US-centric ambassador programme coincided with Matchbox absolutely not giving a shit about European or worldwide collectors.

But it was down to £5 on Colin's stall last week , so I figured I'd give him a sale.

IMG_20260515_1504342.jpg.ba35a2939f808dea556a67d6c05511ed.jpg

Polestar 5 is perhaps a bit out of my usual wheelhouse of miniature shite, but I think Matchbox are getting a good balance of older stuff as well as newer vehicles - and this is quite a striking modern passenger car. Maybe not quite my thing in real life, but it's a neat little toy.

IMG_20260515_1504302.jpg.e204a0994ce76801578665ff4a916519.jpg

Opel Kadett GTE is from the new European mini-set, and is analogous to the Hot Wheels Silver Series releases in that it's a mainline with better detailing. This is really very nice, although there's a few gaps in the black tampo print that could do with a dab of Sharpie to smooth out. It's a nice companion to the plain orange mainline from 2024, but leaves me with the conundrum of what to do with the other plain green one I got a few weeks back and haven't yet opened...

Boot sale bits. I've actually been quite restrained today as there were bags and bags of old Matchbox etc. some definite oddballs in this mix

Some charity shop tat sighted this morning:

IMG_20260516_1156592.jpg.76a3f30d639e9d2132be0d9a1c3781f6.jpg

A few Hot Wheels, some Majorette, some no-names.

IMG_20260516_115714.jpg.a304b53e3a7e8f7c790b33f02be3d95b.jpg

Tyco-era Matchbox Camaro with a mirrored blue paint finish and very 90s graphics was probably the most unusual of the lot; shame about the cracked screen though.

Couple more from the local charity shop:

Decent value at £1 each. Daytona is a non-Corgi branded version, presumably M&S?

Charity shop the other day....

I expect it'll find a home in my Thunderbirds Pod Vehicles collection eventually; probably as part of two or three different items!

Also, some work-in-progress pics, as I've been doing a little detail-painting today.

It's been a few days since I posted much on here, as I've been away working. I came home to several boxes of limited interest toy cars from Vinted etc, and these three Majorettes found in a Lincoln charity shop

This is one of the strangest things I've found for a while, and begs the question as to why you'd want a dozen identical Matchbox as a retail customer, even at the bargain price of £5.00 I'm tempted to get the Entertainer staff to type the item code in the system and see what it says

This one got me far too excited. I have one of these already, in yellow, so I now have 50% of the colours produced.  It is of course, a dodgy Hong Kong copy of the Corgi (or maybe Playart?) Mazda B1600. Playart might actually make more sense, so once again a copy of a copy

Getting into the (mostly) loose stuff now, I pulled two of these Dyson Low-Loaders and Case Tractors out of a big bag of stuff today, although I couldn't find a cab for the other set. @andrew e popped round and decided he'd rather like it for himself

There's something very wrong with it, but I can't quite see how it's happened. Wheel placement is all wrong, sits front high and it looks for all the world like the nose is pushed back at the wheelarch. I don't think it's, damaged, just made badly

No bonnet of course, but I also discovered why this was in a zip-lock bag, the base has snapped and the suspension prevents it staying together properly. I have heard these suffer from metallurgy problems

Fantastic! Cheers for calling in on my behalf 😉

Hope you had/ are having an enjoyable time in Belfast, even if the diecast offerings aren't quite what they used to be - I've had my eye on that boxed Corgi caravan for a while, but not at £50...

Enjoy your wall art, I know the stall that sells those coin sculptures! Pricey enough, you'd get a fair few models for the equivalent cost.

Many many years ago I dabbled in model bus "operation" and the realms of the Model Bus Federation - much like the fleet of our very own @quicksilver.

Time and life got in the way somewhat, but I'm now time rich and cash poor. Naturally I have invested* in this which needs a little work but is mostly all there. Time to start digging out the fleet of old to see whats saveable...

Many of you regulars of this thread will already know that I'm not keen of proper "models" much preferring "toys" and I certainly don't have or intend to start collecting anything of that sort, so...

Mrs Concern was the restraining factor...

However I have now realised if I'd got more then I could have replaced the 1/36 Corgis in their display case, as it is I don't have enough.

That's logic!

im currently down a rabbit hole an cant seem to find the thing i remember....

it was probably twice the size of a matchbox car - about

it was a 70s american pick up, quite square, flat sides,  in a darker shade of red, it had an opening bonnet (hood) and im remembering a sort of  mustard yellow  rear canopy topper thing. it may have had some stripe decals too but im not certain! i must have got it in the 80s at some point and must have lost it somewhere in the early 90s.

i cant seem to find anything similar online atm.

can anyone see anything in there collections similar to help me identify> ? thank you!

Not the right colour, but in the interests of whittling down any possible contenders, how far away is this Lucky Toys Ford F100 from what you remember?

s-l1200.jpg.b9bba7a1df1ed4d8eb0a1fb9d5f8215e.jpg

This one came in a few colours, I've owned a white version and a blue version. It's about six inches long, so around twice the size of Matchbox toys.

Also, was your pick-up made of diecast metal, plastic or pressed steel? That may help narrow it down!
