Yeah I was amazed too.

It used to be a small untidy service station before the next one at Newton Stewart.

Was majorly revamped and is now a unmanned station. With ability to refuel trucks too. Very no thrills, the wee shop was shut down and is card payment only. So they're able to keep the prices down.

I posted this on a spotted thread a few years ago. It lives half a dozen doors away from my mum so following a visit to her today I took a couple more pics:

It's first few MoTs of the electronically recorded era make a good Sunday evening read.

Fair play for keeping it running since then.

Edit: tax disc always makes me smile

That is a substantial list in 2007... and all fixed in one afternoon?! Impressive.

My filling station of choice. Not card only either as you can also pay in cash xx

Same here.

Group buy?

If you weren't at the other end of the country I'd be on that.

Spotted this thing just by my flat. It was being loaded up by some travelling band types.

(Un)Interestingly, I was looking at the CAZ charges for other places around the UK (outside of London) for both the Orange LDV and the white LDV I spotted above. Here are the results:

White LDV 400 Diesel LWB - AF51GSU which is registered as a 'van'

Orange LDV 400 LWB Diesel which, for some reason, is registered as a 'Heavy Goods Vehicle':

So, would the Orange LDV have had some work to make is take more weight on the chassis? Or is this just a registration issue?

Thats amazingly tidy, I thought it must be a 30 year old photo.  Mind you the Pilot looks mint too and even the one at Co-part looks decent.

I still like the green V8 in the ebay thread.  Just need to raise some funds...

I posted this in the crap parking thread, but as I mentioned at the time, the green van is an 08 LDV with the Birmingham City Council lettering still visible.

Ooh! Is this in Birmingham? That van might have been the same one I got robbed of a chance to drive when I briefly worked for Brum City Council many years ago. It got smacked into a post by one of the idiot temps we had and the damage looked only to be to the front bumper, but we were told we couldn't drive it, so I was stuck with Transit Connects or Fiesta panel Vans.

That’s got to have started life as a minibus, so probably originally tested to public service vehicle standard?  Don’t know what that implies for subsequent conversion to goods status though.

It has a gross weight over 3.5t, almost certainly due to starting life as a wheelchair accessible minibus, as mentioned.  Depending on what it’s registered as now, you’d need a C1 or D1 licence to drive it. Bit of a can of worms I expect, buying something like that.

Lets have some LDV action:

Look at the wheel trims on this 😍 usually seen on the LDV Pilot vans.

We had two 54 reg ones at our office. They were the last Sherpa based vans we had. Lasted until we swapped from cycle duties which needed extra bags and big packets covered with bigger vans, over to shared vans where two people would go out in one van and take everything with them. That's when we went over to mostly Pug Partners and Vauxhall Combos. That was about 2012 so they had a fair run.

My last regular LDV was a 200/Pilot. Y833 TDA. I had that until it got replaced with a Transit, LC55 GOX. Which would have made it barely five years old but that was normal in those days, we got rid of them before they were completely shagged so you had some chance of selling them. I think we have finally got rid of the 08 reg Combos, I haven't noticed them recently. But we still have plenty of 11 reg Combos and Pugs and they are utterly fucked. Mind you I don't know what state the Sherpas would be in if we had kept them 15 years.

Recent spot in the DAF museum in Eindhoven, NL. Technically a DAF V400. Were the continental versions still made at Washwood Heath?

Looks quite like a Mk3 Transit blended with a Mk6 and a bit of Renault Master thrown into the mix.

This thread brings back a lot of memories - seemed like these vans were everywhere when I was a kid. I remember our local postman having a Pilot as well - I can't remember most of the other vehicles on our street at the time, but I do remember that quite well. It's crazy to think you could buy something new within my lifetime (I'm 19) that dated back to the days of BL. It's nice to see them getting some love on here - I had assumed even Shiters were immune to these.

I wonder if they'll hire it me for a fortnight in the Highlands? The ratchet straps make it look like they are holding the wheel arches up.
