My Dolomite has been with me since 2012, back when I was JIST A WEE BOY.

I have owned the Daimler since 2007.

I was going to type, it didn't turn a wheel last year, but it did come out of the garage and then went back.

I can't see it ever going anywhere, I even bought the garage it was stored in.

I have had my project Scimitar since May 2013, so nearly 12 years. It hit the road in 2019 after quite a lot of work (including taking the body off) but I immediately ran into issues and it was back off the road within a month! The aim I think is to eventually get it back on the road and then figure out if I really want to keep it. I blow hot and cold over it but feel I best get it road worthy to really make up my mind and give the car a chance....

The second longest car was my ropey E28, I had that 10 years and still really miss that car.....

I had my e46 330Ci for 6 years, roffled it on here (it needed tyres, brakes and some other things) when I needed some cash and a wagon for moving to a new house.

The winner traded it on and the current owner has now had it for about 6 years.

330

I know a chap via flickr who's had his yellow DS since the early 90s (it was the one Hammond drove on Top gear).

Still got this old girl running around after she's the 1st car we bought it when we moved over 7yrs ago.

Downgraded to a farm car now as the rust has gotten hold underneath but still drives fine.

The Renault Espace I got from here, it's almost MOT time! It was MOT'd not long before I got it.

I love it to bits, it’ll be staying furthermore.

Bought my Daytona yellow MK3 cortina 2 Dr GT in September 1989

Driving me crazy that haven't driven it since bit before COVID as the useless piece of junk holley carb was garbage ( wouldn't mind but I run it on LPG so it's only there as a back up) I plan to have the keys with me when I'm incinerated ( so they'll have to sieve me out of them rather than prise them outta my cold hand). Long live the V8 fuck the environment it'll still be here long after we've all gone. Skynet will see to that

Would love to see some pics of your Mk5s, especially the 1.6L.

Both mk5's in storage  can only see bits of the L  one of crayford few months before was laid up .

We lost all the restoration photos when mates phone was stolen not long after completion.

It's number 9 , 5 1.6's were done this is the only 1.6 auto, diamond white with dark brown interior. Stock except stainless exhaust period sharp RC player.

They were all GL or GLS ,one Ghia & one L, one lhd. 28 in total.

one stolen & never found,2 written off 16 definitely survive Inc #1 & #28 + the LHD one.

Only available from three dealerships it doubled price of the car. Mine is believed to have briefly been the demonstrator for Quicks of Manchester as was regd RNF 3 OR 8 W for the first 3 months, then went onto a private plt then on to the below at circa 3 years old.

DVLA say original plt was voided ,private plt still belongs to same family & is on sons car.

Anyone who knows me knows the mk3-4-5-P100 are way past obsession.

I've been chasing a particular Mk5 on & off for circa 40 years & lost track again due to COVID stopping me travelling 5-6 hours to an address that should've finally solved the mystery one way or the other. It's that bad I commissioned a portrait of it a few years back & am collecting pieces to build a 1:24 scale model of it. ( Anyone know were I can get a 3.0 essex V6 in that scale?? Found an American essex V6 but it's a completely different eng from the 90/00's I believe).

The person moved after lockdown & as Im useless with IT I was gutted. Many say the car is long gone but even though it's not been taxed for 35 years logbooks were issued when the DVLA "didn't loose" several thousand blank ones ofthem in the teens & we all had to have new ones & the last one was when it & the owner left the address I'd tracked it too. So I think it still exists as why would you keep updating something that disappeared possibly 1/4 of a century ago.

It will be mine one day( especially if my numbers come up.

I had my Toyota Yaris from 2007 until 2017.  The engine never missed a beat during that time & the only times it refused to start when the batteries needed replacing!

Eventually things were starting to catch up with it & it was part exchanged for an NOS Nissan Micra.

I keep mine until I have to change them, so only these four since 1992!

Fiat Uno 60S D474PVH from 1992 to 2001, 77k to 235k. Think it was about £1500 when bought. Still running well at 235k but just needed too much spending for MoT so was scrapped. Was a cracking car, this would be my longest ownership but the Note is close behind now.

Fiat Punto 55SX N734AHJ from 2001 to 2008, 30k to 150k. Cost I think about £3000 so a lot of money back then! Better quality than the Uno and wore the mileage really well. All good but fancied a change, not like me! Sold cheaply to a friend for her daughter to learn to drive, so thought it had gone to a good home but was hardly used in ages and they eventually got fed up with it sitting there and scrapped it, didn't know until it was too late 😠.

Nissan Almera 1.5 YS53BOV from 2008 to 2016, 45k to 172k. Bought for £2695 from an eBay ad and was delivered, bit bold for me but was 100% as described. Eight years of dependable use,  was still running and MoT'd but burning a lot of oil, sold for the oval.

Almera.thumb.jpg.f30becba631b3cd1614bfb3f1e79490e.jpg

Nissan Note 1.4 2016 to date, 89k to 187k. Cost £2750, carries on just being reliable, no hassle transport. Never looks this clean, didn't even get its annual pre-MoT wash last year.

Volvo - 25th September 2004

Renault 6 - 1st December 2007

Innocenti - 8th November 2008

Carina E - 4th April 2012

Then there's a bit of a jump to the Rover 75 which I bought on 18th August 2018, and the rest of the fleet are all relatively recent purchases.

Edit: Forgot the Mobylette, which I bought in 1995 if memory serves - can't remember the exact date though.

Bought new in 2000, a replacement for my wifes Nissan Cherry, first picture taken  first week of ownership.

In regular use until 2018 with the only issues being both rear brake cylinders needed replacing in 2002, second picture taken in 2018 and at 93,000 miles. The mot had expired and it needed a bit of welding on the drivers side inner sill.

Last picture 2023, being loaded for delivery to its new owner.

I followed what looked like a mint Uno in the same blue out of Sainsburys Basingstoke last week. Couldn’t take a pic as I was driving but it looked immaculate.

I haven't MOT'd a car twice for 20 years. The longest I've ever kept a car is just over 4 years for both my E28 BMW and Alfa 156. Both cars I really enjoyed owning.

This beast has taken the lead and is still with me, currently at 5 years and 4 months!

IMG_20250117_021855.thumb.jpg.a3516bb186b4bd0d400ceb47d9e137e3.jpg

It just stubbornly carries on functioning as a car. It's a Ghia, so very comfortable with plenty of added features. Its soon due it's 5th MOT with me, has never once failed. All it's needed over the years is servicing, tyres, a battery, a few suspension bits, gear cables and the instrument cluster repaired off the top of my head. Nothing catastrophic at all.

It's surplus to requirements really, but I loathe to try and sell it to the great unwashed for peanuts when I'll never find another car like it for such little money, so it can stay for now

Most other cars have stayed around the 1-2 year mark. The runner up being the Daewoo Tacuma (!) at 3 years and 11 months which eventually suffered death by OMGHGF

I’ve changed cars frequently for most of my life, and there are many i ’should have kept’ I say to myself, not realising that I wouldn’t have been able to buy many if I hadn’t sold the previous, naturally.

Anyway, the one I’ve kept the longest is luckily my 3-litre Granada LS.

IMG_4456.thumb.jpeg.7a7b42207dbf8f2d482b8197a438177a.jpeg

Bought it in 2001 from its second owner. Needs a new vinyl roof and a suspension overhaul, but runs very well.
