One of the last good looking Peugeot’s ever made. I could be wrong but KX registration suggests it was registered new by Peugeot themselves, used to see a few Peugeot’s with KM, KX, KJ, etc plates with ‘Peugeot Motor Company’ branded number plates.

I know its modern but that Fiat 500 in the background is interesting for the fact the SW12 registration indicates it came new from Aberdeen so its ended up in totally the opposite end of the UK from where it started, unless Greenwich has an SW12 postcode and its a shit private plate.

Why is a five year old Aberdeen-registered Fiat 500 that has moved to (or is visiting) London particularly remarkable?

Most likely it was registered new in Aberdeen, leased to someone, when lease finished it probably went to the former Fiat/Alfa storage centre Long Bennington for storage/refurb before being allocted to a dealer in the South and ending up in London. Many of these modern cars usually end up miles from thier place of registration.

 

Regarding the more interesting Spitfire, this comes back from cazana.com/uk/;

 

This 1988 TRIUMPH SPITFIRE 1500 on numberplate E947 WCL was first registered on Saturday 1st of April 2017 near Norwich. At an estimated 20,629 miles, this vehicle has done a higher than average number of miles for its age.

 

So its a recent import, no wonder it looks so clean. I wonder how they deemed it to be a 1988 car then?

That one really is an oddity and it doesn't take a genius to work out that a 1988 Triumph is very obviously wrong. Maybe it's a 1980 car but someone misread the 0 as another 8.

One way this can occur is if the car has been in a couple of jurisdictions where the "date previously registered" is recorded, rather than the "date first ever registered". Sometimes seen on stuff that has done a stint in both Channel Islands, for example.

I remember back in 1993/94 seeing an L reg Ford Sierra, with reg L*** COO  and it was a silver Azura model, I've seen a few J reg mk4 Escort cars/vans and a J reg mk2 Orion (mk4 Escort shape). A few years ago there was a D Reg mk2 black Granada Ghia on ebay, there was a T reg mk1 Granada on ebay about 5 years ago an ex cop 3.0 S model.

1987/88 E-reg Mk1 Golf. Huh? Doesn't look like one of those South African CitiGolfs and it's been UK registered (almost?) from new. Weirdly, Cazana says it was registered in October 88 with a D-plate and changed a month later to an E - shouldn't October 88 be an F if it was new then? Sadly its suspension seems to have collapsed.

The V5 says it was made in 1945, despite me providing proof the company didn’t even exist prior to 1948 and copies of all my own documents they won’t change it unless I send them the original buff log book. And the chances of that being lost and them cocking it up would be?

Indeed they are. There's an MOT exempt '1959' Maxi doing the rounds on eBay. Seller claims it's a '69 model but it actually seems to be a late 70s rod-changer. Whatever it is, it definitely wasn't made in 1959 but the DVLA goons have granted it a premature MOT exemption based on their crappy data.

There used to be a L plate Sierra at the end of our road, the circumstances as to how it ended up on that plate I don't know. There was a few late Sapphires fitted with 1.6 Pinto's and 2.3 diesels presumably to use up stocks.

About 1990 they should have changed to the 1.8TD, I'm guessing they had a glut of the old Indenor 2.3 diesels left.

Think there were quite a few L reg Sierra's. I remember a guy who used to trade cars to us rocked up in a wine red L reg Sapphire Cosworth in about 94. He bought them new from Ford and then sold them on again after 2 or 3 months. Did it a lot with Escort Cosworths too. He said it was free motoring and sometimes made a few on them. I bet he wished he kept a couple in hindsight.

Just saw this 51 plate MK3 Astra. It is a lhd Opel.

Could be genuine being an Opel, some markets (like Poland, I think?) continued to receive the Astra F as a cheaper alternative for some time after the G was offered.

Yeah called an Astra Classic or something I seem to remember from Vauxhalls EPC when looking up part numbers.

Yup. ECAT says it's an Astra Classic, made 19/9/2001 in Gliwice (PL) for the Polish market.

Spotted on New Year's Eve (and sadly in a hurry, so no better shot available) - Birthday Boy Rover (800) Sterling 2-dr, first used 31 December 1999 according to DVLA.

Rare old beast in N. Ireland anyway. Looked well cared for, at any rate.

When I was a kid in the late 80s, our family car was a Chevette estate on a C plate. It had been used from new as a runaround on a massive army base nearby (might have been Aldershot barracks), so they didn't bother register it until it was sold on. I saw another near identical one around a few times, which presumably came from the same place!

 

Still remember my dad getting pulled over, as some eagle eyed policeman noticed the reg was about 3 years too new...

An M-plate Maestro has popped up locally (I'm always rushing to work when I see it so haven't got a photo yet, but I will try).  It's a right old shitter but it seems to be in daily use and possibly for commuting as I always see it parked in slightly different places.

Without Googling it, I think they were still available new in 1994 but I'm willing to be wrong on that.  I'm also aware that some were manufactured elsewhere under licence and wandered back here to be registered later (Tim Moore wrote a superb travel book from the driving seat of an R-plater).

 

Whenever I see the thing it strikes me that you'd have to have been patriotic to the point of blindness to buy a new Maestro in 1994.  Why on earth would you have this rather than a 306/ZX?  Golfs and Escorts were in the doldrums then, but surely still better than this.

Saw this on a dereliction site, taken a few years ago from what I can make out. The picture description was a Ford Granada, when I've checked the reg to see if it was officially registered as the wrong car, its coming back as a Taurus, registered in 2010, last MOT`d in 2013, with only 67km in between..

Late reg Maestro's were kits that got sent to Bulgaria (IIRC) then re imported back to the UK....Ledbury I think

Im sure M was the last of the genuine Maestros sold through the UK Rover dealer network, anything newer will be a Ledbury or some other Bulgarian CKD kit, and theres another, cant remember the name, apple-something?

 

Agreed im not sure why youd buy one when the excellent mk3 Astra was kicking about then, guess they mustve been cheap, because they were shite in 1990 when my father bought a 1986 D plater, rusted to buggery, all the electrics failing and absolutely falling apart by the time it was 8 years old.
