This was my grandfather's 2002tii...

The tii Ceased production in 75 as far as I can work out but this was on an 77/78 S reg. Right hand drive so not sure if it was an import registered at date of entry or just old stock that hung about after the E21 was launched.

Either is possible.  It might have been owned by a squaddie and originally registered on British Forces plates.

So the 1950's Traction Avant was registered 11 years later than the 1970's SM next to it?

I think it was previously registered NXT694, but for some reason it was given a Y-plate.

It's long gone  now unfortunately and no record on DVLA. Unfortunately dad got rid after a coupke of years as it was becoming expensive to maintain. Replaced with a B reg 320i

Honourable mention for the neighbours Cavalier SRI in the background which I was always slightly jealous of, the BM being regarded as a bit of an old banger at the time.

I think there’s a bit of  a tradition of model overlaps when it comes to Golf estates, with the estate version not usually going on sale for year or so after the launch of the hatchback version, I think the mk5 hatch had been on sale for almost two years before the estate version arrived in 2006, hence mk4 estates were often seen on 05 - 55 plates.

Similarly, I’m pretty sure the mk7 Golf launched on a 62 plate, but the estate version arrived on a 14 plate, I think, with the mk6 based estate still on sale until that point.

Still late, of course, but possibly not as late as you might think…

Followed a 21-plate Mitsubishi Mirage on the M1 on Saturday. Must be one of the last few to be registered in the UK, although given they stopped autumn 2021 I bet there's probably some UK Mitsubishis out there on 71s or maybe even 22s for old dealer stock.

W reg is incredibly late for a Cavalier.

Year of manufacture 2000 according to DVLA!

MOT and tax ran out in January 2025 and it has the mighty 1.7 diesel engine.

Here's one I've recently saved...

I'm fairly sure a UK 206 doesn't get any later than this

Many years ago I ran WL54 FKA which was a facelift black 206 1.1.

Bloody great little thing.

As registration is generally done after the body has been built there can be a bit of a lag on model changes.

One of our Master ice cream vans is on a 10 plate, but the platform cab was built in 2008 and sat at a dealer for 18 months before we bought it as a new unregistered half van. I think there was a bit of a surplus around at the time.

When did Honda stop doing the S2000 sports car? I saw a stunning bright red hard-top one on an '08 plate earlier today. Since most on the road are from '02 to '06 I don't think I've seen a newer one than that.

I didn't realise they kept selling these Berlingo's as a "first edition" as late as a 61 plate, while the later B9 version had been on sale for 3 years already
