I stand to be corrected, but didn’t these last in production up until 1982?

I think you may be right but it seems odd seeing a Commer van on a 1980s plate.

Last Dodge SpaceVan was made 1983 so I expect a few were registered in 84 at least

I was transported to school in a Y plated Dodge spacevan minibus back in 1983.

The small minibus/taxi company also ran a matching N reg Commer version too.

The Y plated one had replaced a J plated CF Dormobile minibus.

It did look a bit dated to be wearing a Y plate to be fair.

There's a photo on Flickr of a 1984 registered Spacevan B698JMY

Flickr link

I remember British Telecom had a lot of Spacevans & I presume some were stored before being registered.

Facebook comes up with another Irish oddity, left the factory in 2002, didn't get registered until 2006 apparently...

Alright so I got a bollocking for the last car I posted here so I’ll try a bit harder:

I've been wondering if lockdown and the ensuing lack of new car sales and resulting surplus stock is going to create a whole lot of new and exciting late registration madness. Are we going to find cars such as the previous model Peugeot 208s and Corsas on 70 and 21 registrations?

The last Imps were made in 1976 so not too late.

Yes R is late 76 early 77. I’ve never seen an R registered Imp though, and the ‘Caledonian’ run out special was on a P if I recall correctly.

Escort van? Yes they ran them fairly early into the 2000s until the connect was around.

I think the last vans were made in early 2002

Spotted on Facebook; an S-Reg Mk1 Mx5

Looks like it’s Mariner Blue too, a colour they dropped in about 1993.

Is it not an Eunos?

Yes it is, which did make me think that it was registered as a new car when it was imported by mistake, but doovla says that it was brought over here in 2001, so I’m not so sure why it’s on an S

bit of a weird one, according to my tools it has 2 records, one says it was first registered in the UK on the 1st of the 5th 1998, and it does not have an import marker the other says it first registered in the UK on the 2nd of the 5th 2001, and it does have an import marker

however both records say it originally had the NI plate PIL4954

so I suspect it was a NI Car, and 2001 is when it was "imported" into England and it got declared manufactured 1998 for some reason, maybe because of its previous 1998 registration in NI

Quite possibly, I believe quite a few Japanese imports come via NI.

I never knew that. Is there a reason for that? Are they easier/cheaper to register there?

Near where I live, there's an X plate Mk1 MX5. I'll try and get a note of its reg next time I'm around there, I've never seen it leave the owner's driveway so I'm hesitant to take a pic. (I personally don't like photographing cars on owners' driveways, I've always seen it as a bit invasive.)

I'm not sure of the situation now but IIRC about 20 years ago it cost less in import taxes etc to import to NI first then bring into Britain as a car coming from NI isn't classed as an import

I spotted a P-Reg Talbot Express shaped Camper in Rhyl (think it was a Ducato, but not sure). Gutted I was driving and didn’t get a picture... they stopped making them in 94!
