Not been to any AS gatherings before. Rude not to as I live in Shropshire. Count me in.

Any chance of photos of the worst bit of the track? That may influence the choice of vehicle!

@mat_the_cat It's not that bad,  I've been up there in the Focus dozens of times.  Might be a bit tricky with lowered/sporty stuff.  Likewise on the width, I've been up there in plenty of vans but they tend to brush the hedges a bit.  I was there when a 7.5t truck arrived with the heating oil and the fact he got stuck was only because he went off the side of the hardstanding!

I'll definitely be up there a week before Shitefest but not sure if I will between now and then.

As someone who has taken out the sump on the Stellar, the radiator on a Focus, and the sump on the BX twice (setting off before it had fully risen) on our track, I am now a little wary! It'll be fine if I can pick a line or straddle the ruts...I think the danger is with familiarity at home causing me to be complacent.

I know what you mean, I've done my 405 behind this house (after driving a van up and down it the day before).  Helpfully fixed by Darren the blacksmith a few posts above.

I spoke to him last night. It may be possible to arrange a demo for a few people if there's any interest in watching or even having a go.

Cheers @catsinthewelder that looks epic! I think im ok with dates, just got to choose what to take (most likely impossible that far ahead given my proclivities) but i feel a rolls road trip would appeal to me.

That aged well, didn’t it? 🤨

YES.

I don't drink any more so you're all slightly* safer too.

Considering I only own sports toasters now and have no car buying plans (?!), I'm not sure which I'll bring, probably the Civic as it's more interesting, and doesn't scrape on much for how low it is. I can't sleep in either (probably) so I'll likely tent it. I hate storing tents...

As a newbie to the Forum, how do these sort of meets play out (sorry if that's a silly question). I'd like to make it to this if I can as I'd love to get proper stuck in but have no idea how these things sort of go (would help to know so I can decide if to drag the Mrs along or not 😂).

Folk turn up, chat, eat, have some drinks. Sometimes try and fix a vehicle that suffered a malady enroute, sometimes go see a local attraction on day 2 (park, museum, castle, etc).

It's kind of venue dependant.

I don't bring Girlfriend_70s as she isn't keen on camping and I can sleep in the back of the Volvo if I'm solo which saves bringing a tent...

I haven't either. I'm quite keen to come along. I'm softening up Mrs Grogee to see if I can come.

It's an hour and 20 from me, that'll be a nice little jaunt for the Maestro assuming I can fix the misfire.

Happy to pick up anyone en route between Southam and Bridgnorth if anyone wants a lift.

Is there anywhere to ride a motorised MTB fitted with a Chinese 2 stroke that I've been too scared to ride anywhere else?

I can't see the bike being an issue on the track up to the field so long as its not being noisy for too long or late (there is a next door neighbour).

I've been thinking about Saturday activities.  I imagine a few folk will want to go to Cosford RAF museum which is about 40 minutes away and only charges for parking so it'll make sense to car share.

@Scruffy Bodger is kindly trying to arrange a blacksmithing demonstration in the next village, parking there is a bit limited so again, car sharing would make sense.

Train fans have a bit of a choice, the SVR runs from Bridgnorth and there's a cliff railway too.  Alternatively Telford Steam Railway is a bit more Autoshite, likely to be cheaper and I could have a word about doing a group thing as I used to volunteer there years ago.

For the active types the campsite is at the bottom of the biggest hill in Shropshire if you want to walk/run/cycle up.  There's a bit of industrial heritage up there but including the pub would make it a long walk.

Or.....There are canoe/kayak hire companies that put you in a boat in Bridgnorth and fish you out downstream and hand you a ticket to get back on the SVR.  I did it last year with work and really enjoyed it despite falling in.  This needs booking a week or two beforehand.

Obviously you can also just chill on site and wait for the hangover to subside or find something else to do.

This is just over an hour from me so I won't have to worry about where to stay as I can go home. 🙂 Depending on how much chod I have left by July I could bring a different car each day. 🙂

A trip to Cosford or a train ride on the Saturday bot sound good to me. 👍

I am booked to work all the days of this.

In other words... I am booked to try and get swaps / holidays for all of this.

Ah, you need to come to the FoD!

(I can't make shitefest this year, first year since 2015 and I'm doing something else!)

Yes I've considered that too. Not sure when the next meet is?

@Six-cylinder usually announces the FoD dates on his thread.

I have set the first FoD weekend 20/21 April 2024.

I will put it on my thread in a while.

I might come to this, if I remember and/or I'm in a spot where I'm not on the Lada.

Spoke to the Mrs and she's happy to come along with me so me and Mrs SEATMad will be coming! I'll probably bring the Colt along as a couple week after I'll be taking the Ibiza to the FoTU.
