Many reasons NOT to buy a discovery 2. It never made it to 201k.

Discovery now promoted to light duties. So its first road test was to a local garden centre to pick up 200kg of top soil and bark. Lol.

MoT booked for Friday afternoon. So it’s getting a front brake overhaul

offside front sliders are seized, so they’re getting repaired next!

That pin took some removing.

cleaned then greased

ended up finishing this in darkness due to one thing or another.

Today was mot day.

not gonna lie, after spending the best part of £2000 on this in the last couple of months I was nervous. My mot guy knows how meticulous I am looking after my cars though.

as I pulled into the workshop to start the test a lad came into the office and said “here mate, this landrovers leaking oil!”

we had a laugh and a joke about it and as I walked back to it, low and behold, a huge puddle of oil was under the front. 🤦‍♂️

cue sutty having a stroke.

Long story short, a power steering hose had come loose and was pumping everywhere. Must have come loose on my way there. I tightened it up and topped the fluid up. Bled the steering and the tester started the test.

thankfully, this discovery is in good Nick anyway, and he quite enjoys testing this one. Normally the only landrovers he sees are piles of junk. A pass with no advisories was issued.

im not spending anymore on it, it’s already had enough “treats” to last it a lifetime 😅

Nice! That's how to speedrun becoming friendly with an mot tester 👌

I assume he lent you the tools, you fixed it, cleaned up and nothing more was said etc? That's a great opportunity and we'll done for jumping fully in if so

Yep that’s exactly how it happened. Luckily it was just a loose union, had it been a burst pipe, it would have been another phone call for the big yellow taxi 🤦‍♂️😅

Well that’s another ass shafting I’ve just received. £180 for a genuine MAF sensor. I’m definitely looking after this one!

2 minute job to fit. Hopefully it’ll run a bit more efficiently now.

So, the wife is due a new company car so we went to a few dealers to test the water (she’s been given a list of cars)…. The salesman at Skoda crunched some numbers on a Skoda Elroq EV mid range with no options ticked. With a 1500 deposit, it’s £630 a month.

I let that sit a couple of seconds and thought “thank fook I can still fix my Landrover cheaper than that”

🤣

I’ve just undertaken a long trip in this old girl.

Stoke on Trent to Shaftesbury. 375ish miles completed. had an air suspension fault which MIGHT have fixed itself.

averaged 29mpg. Which I was expecting 30/31 ish for a steady 60-65mph cruise in good weather and no traffic. I think the map needs tweaking now it’s got the V8 torque converter in it.

but in other news, it hit a milestone today!!!!!

Hope everyone is unharmed?

And can I ask how that happened?

Me and the wife have some gravel rash from broken glass but Arthur is unharmed luckily.

How it happened? I don’t want to divulge too much information just yet but something hit the back of the caravan and it spun out, the Landrover fell over.

we are currently stuck in wales in an air b n b, but have options to get home over the weekend

You all walked away. That is all that matters.

So glad you're all OK, the shock may come out in strange ways over the next few weeks  so take care

Glad no one is badly hurt.As a fellow caravanner, hope everything works out as best as it can. Many years ago some friends had the opposite situation. The caravan "fell over" after a snake, leaving the car with its backside in the air.Car lived on,caravan didn't.

Is it worth tapping up @WillCarter to see what he might have?
Wouldnt be an insurmountable job to get to Kettering from Wales.

Utter bummer, but as has been said, metal can be replaced, skin & bones cant.

Shit, glad your OK. I guess once whatever happened started to happen there was nothing you could really do 😢

Enough mojo to do it all again using whatever you can salvage from yours or is the whole lot getting fucked off and never spoken about again?

Mind yourselves over the next few days... Be a story to tell the little one when he's older

Shame to see something that’s running well been here a good few years get taken out. But nobody hurt so that’s the main thing.

Bloomin heck Sutty thats a nightmare. Good you are all ok and if you need a loan polo for a month whilst you get sorted give me a shout. Not that far from SOT.

Posted

As others have said - you're okay and that's the only thing that matters.

Hope you get transportation sorted. I'd offer the Vectra but it's two countries away.

Will the insurance not sort you out in the short term?

Dunno. They were very “sorry, have a nice day” on Friday afternoon. They didn’t want to help us out. Will ring them Monday. Autoshite is usually full of cars I can’t buy for one reason or another, not much selection at present.
