Grumblespeed Posted July 12, 2021 Posted July 12, 2021 Well, had a wee hand in the Panda tale recently but otherwise mostly been lurking without starting any topics as my own automotive activity has been a bit subdued recently. So what better way to kick off than with a collection for my ill gotten roffle winnings😀. It begins as seems to be traditional with breakfast. 124 miles to pickup.. loserone Posted July 12, 2021 Posted July 12, 2021 Pretty sure @Grumblespeed should be home by now.. :S
Spurious Posted July 12, 2021 Posted July 12, 2021 I was so so tempted to buy that. I'd no where to put it and it would have been completely illogical but it looks so handsome. So naturally I'm glad I get to keep seeing it on here. 👍😃 Grumblespeed 1
Grumblespeed Posted July 12, 2021 Author Posted July 12, 2021 Radio silence for a bit there, not enough 4G to let me post at the pickup there apparently. Post petrol shot half a dozen miles down the road. Not the most confidence inspiring start.. @loserone you weren't kidding when you said check the wheel bolts - you'd only torqued up the drivers side!! Both N/S wheels were rattling loose on the hubs by the time I got stopped. Now down as far as Wetherby services, a quick food stop and some relief from driving in torrential rain in a car tha I'll be glad to get home and swap the front tyres off. Some entertainment provided at the stop off though. This just pulled up on front of me, bless, used to have one too Coffee, and update when I get this home. Glad you sorted that before it became an accident, I've no idea how I managed to do that, I can only think I've torqued up the same side twice! FFS

I spent the whole of @wesacosa's journey home after we'd been hashing that Panda back together worrying I hadn't remembered to tighten the wheel bolts. Anyway finally home now, that's taken forever, it's been a stinking run, lashing down all the way except the last stretch on the M18/M180 so I've been trundling along behind shadowy shapes of trucks hidden in a thick cloud of spray. Poked a few of the latent horses into action a few times on the motorway once I hit the dry and it's got a bit of urgency when required🙂Fairly major coil springy clunk from that front corner though so I've got a bit of a job on at some point. 1 hour ago, Spurious said: I was so so tempted to buy that. I'll get some photos up soon to keep you happy, heading out with the blue T-cut and some blue Aldi Hammeritey type stuff to cover up the hole in the paintwork I just noticed by the front arch. Grumblespeed Posted July 13, 2021 Author Posted July 13, 2021 Quick look round last night without the shiny shiny polish effect of seeing it when it's p**sing down. Right, let's sort this out properly* Paint defects be gone!! ..Well, paint defects be slightly mitigated then. I'll not look at the roof yet, lacquer peel city! This morning's job, go rummage in "the wheelhouse" And fish out these I used to have on my old Roland Garros: Reassuringly the tyres seem OK, bought the rims new in 2012 but they've been stored away out of daylight for all but one summer of that (I had winters on the factory rims) and aren't showing any signs of cracking or hardening, even holding pressure. Lots more tread than the "get you home" set on the car just now. Even better I left the wheel bolts in the rims so I haven't even got to try and remember where I stored them. Bonus! I'll clean them up & get them on and I'll just have to keep an eye on them. puddlethumper, rainagain, Coprolalia and 15 others 17 1
wesacosa Posted July 13, 2021 Posted July 13, 2021 I don't think I have ever had a GTI either. Had a couple of STs and a Clio sport but no GTI. Grumblespeed 1

FakeConcern Posted July 13, 2021 Posted July 13, 2021 Nice! So does this have the EW10J4S engine? I love the super revvy character of them and they sound great as they bounce off the limiter at 7500 rpm...
