Got some questions for anyone playing longer than me/cleverer

I upgraded/repaired my XR2 From D1 class to D9 and it was a bit of a weapon, winning 9/10 head-to-head races on average. I then repaired it some more and went from D9 class to C3. Now I win about 4/10 races as I'm up against better competition, but you don't win any more money in the H2H races, so whats the point?

Or have I misunderstood, and the point is to get to the highest number in the class without tipping into the next class up, then just do back-to-back H2H races round grand thatch (lowest time requirement at 43m) and/or do pizza/chinese/curry deliveries to earn lots of money and buy a shit example of a higher class car? Is there any point for H2H races to go to courses that need more time? e.g. 'Sim Balk Road Stage' is 206 miles and eats up 6h 52m of time, you can do grand thatch 9 times in the same amount of time, therefore its potentially 9x more lucrative if the prizes are the same for winning? Even if you don't win every race, you have 9 shots of  winning, vs one shot?

Also, for the 'Single Races' where you go up against lots of competitors, is it winner-takes-all or are there prizes for the top X spots? e.g. if you come 3rd do you get anything?

I think the point of using different tracks is so that you can chose which one is best fitted to your car (you can see the track maps in the settings) to give you a better chance of winning. The main point of having a higher class car (that I can see) is for higher daily race winnings, and there is still prizes if you don't come first (I came 9th and won £30)

I bought a car with a turbo and bought an intercooler for it. Now I own one but not fitted. Anybody know why it can't be fitted ? It said it would fit. Is my only choice to sell it and lose money ? It would be handy to see what higher category a performance part would get you before spending the money. Why can't I have an intercooler with a turboed car ? I'm probably missing something,  apart from brain cells.

Has anyone found out what the bits at the top of the screen do? That is, the warning lights and overtime bar.

I've seen the fuel light come on when running low on fuel but not seen any of the others light up. I clicked on the overtime thing by mistake and it seems to move an indicator along the bar but I couldn't tell if it did anything else.

The overtime button converts hours to money. It takes 2 hours and gives you £12 i think.

I bought a 200 quid Morris minor and the 0-60 time was 67 seconds! 😂 Already spent more than the purchase price on it and it's more like 38 seconds now

you need to go to the garage, click on the car, click on 'upgrade options' and then have enough time to fit the part in your time bank. there are 2 steps - buy it, then fit it. Its so you can take bits off too in case you want to make your car worse.

Working as an ice cream man/drug dealer is quite lucrative in the game - £26/hr on a 25 hour job is over 4x what you get delivering curries. Nice work. Also, F1 class? Is that the slowest thing in the game for races?

I sold my D9 Fiesta XR2 to get me enough to buy a terraced house, then used my leftover change to buy a Peugeot 205 1.1 which is actually really good. Its crap for races, but does 52mpg so is great for deliveries to earn money instead - I'm now saving up for a Volvo estate to do delivery jobs & private hire taxi'ing

Ice cream van flex!

Saved up for ages to get this. I've not mastered the races so had to earn this the old fashioned way doing Hermes deliveries and delivering curries

How much did the Ice cream van cost? I've been after one for a while now.

If you'd like to do private hire and courier work in style, try to find a Proton. They're rare but they're the cheapest car that can do both of those things.

I'm living the dream* now having bought a terraced house, and filled my on-street parking with a Peugeot 205 GL 1.1 and a new acquisition of a a 1989 Volvo 240GLT estate, allowing me to upgrade from takeaway deliveries to Taxi and Courier work - living the £8.50 p/h dream.

The 205 is reasonably competitive in the F class single races around the compact tracks - There is someone with a basically unbeatable Sierra 1.6L though that wins every time, I can usually make it into the top 5.

I'm looking at 'performance' tuning the Volvo to make it into a hypermiler, with all mods focussing on maximising the MPG since its never going to be competitive in races anyway.

I am in roughly the same position, I didn't sign in for a month or more and came back to it and had enough for the terraced house.

I did buy a 190E but I think this wasn't classed as prestige for chauffer work so I sold it for a loss and bought a 300 SE.

I also have a 1.1 Metro for the pizza delivery type jobs.

Basically I have been sticking to the part time jobs and not bothering with races as they don't seem to bring in much money.

My 300SE is naturally quite broken so I am now working up enough cash to fix it enough to do chauffeur jobs.

Much like @Stanky I've got a 205, Gti though, and a Volvo estate for taxi and courier work. I got the GTi up to a B9 and didn't come near to winning anything. I thought I'd repair it a bit, 10%, and now it's a flipping A1 which I didn't want. Bugger, back to the drawing board.

I've just bought the terraced house so went looking for a companion for my 1.1 205.  I saw a Lada Riva for £195 in the classifieds and clicked on it for more information, then went back to see what I'd need for a taxi.  Went to look at the Lada again and I had no time.  That's when I spotted it was 119 miles away, whoops.

I found Autoshite through this post, I've been playing Motornation for a little while now and enjoy it a lot. Its simple and easy to dip in and out of. My garage currently is a 1989 Nissan Micra and a 1991 Escort 1.6 Ghia, used for takeaway work and taxi work respectively.

I had a go at the racing but enjoy being a working man rather than a racer. I'm saving up for the next level house so i can get another car, not sure what yet though as the Micra/Escort combo cover most of the work available in the classifieds!

I saved up takeaway delivery money from the 205 to get a house then an early Sierra for taxi work.

Sold the 205 to make space for a van but can't find one for sale.  Saw a cheap Metro (£250) and thought I could flip it to earn a few quid.  Unfortunately it was only worth £180 so I wasn't allowed to sell it for more than £245 which seemed a bit odd.

Enjoying it but slightly frustrated.

£10,650. I've only ever seen 2 for sale though.

The Holden surprisingly counts as big enough to do courier and private hire work. That was only £2.5kish

I see the chip shortage drived up prices in motornation, too:

BEDFORD CF1 WHITBY MORRISON ICE CREAM VAN 1980, 1dr van, 125k miles, very good condition £35,350 (visit)

I have a nice french pair of red cars now: 205 1.9 GTi and 309 1.9 GTi. I'm trying to get the 205 to class C9, but it slips right trough to B1.

Quick fleet update on my part. Managed to scrape together enough to get a house with parking for two.

And after a fling with a 1994 Astra Merit, I now have two cars - a 1982 Mercedes 230 I can use as a cab or a really crap wedding car (I'm guessing it would've been the equivalent of using a 2003 Merc W220 as a wedding car) and also a 1988 Citroen 2CV.

Now i'll be honest, I've got absolutely no need for the 2CV but it's got zero damage and zero value. So I guess it'll sit in my garage until they become collectable in about 15 years time...

I'm enjoying it but I'm wondering about getting a membership for an even bigger home and thus an even bigger hoard of shite
