40 years and a month ago I bought this for £1100 from John Wilkins, the SaaB agent in Cheltenham. 3 month warranty, Triumph engine and, by seperate negotiation (£25), those funky headrests.

I liked everything about that car, except the heavyness of the steering and it was manual. I spent a week of spare time waxoiling it (you can see the yellow gunge behind the bumper in this picture).

I felt proper grown-up driving it.

So I didn't keep it long and sold to a bloke who was to collect it tomorrow.

Took it for a final drive and the drivers-window lift broke and I spent half the night bodging the lift-scissor thing with a transport-screw from my record player.

I keep looking at the prices of the last 9-5 model, they still seem to be  really expensive for a ten year old niche product from a dead brand.

It would have to be white and as base as they come (for old times sake) and a petrol automatic.

Cold and breezy in Blackpool today in the ex  @SRi05 Saab . Top seller, would use again!

Drives well, very tight for 20 years old,  Good for drag racing at traffic lights.

Have noticed I can't go to Blackpool on a gallon any more.

I think I'll keep it 'till it breaks....I said that with the Rover and it's still going.

Need to keep my eye out for an auto, a red one would be nice.

I'm a convert now, 75's are for Old Codgers.

I had it down for 10 mins, the sun vanished and it was freezing. I'll wait until August .

I need to buy some sunglasses, they all wear them on Sunday afternoons out.
Difficult to tell where the back is, I need some sensors. My neighbour  wont be impressed if I use my tow ball on his A6.

Also had a loan of this 2.2 TiD 9-5 today. It was far nicer than a car with 186,000 miles should be. Lowly spec with cloth seats and no cruise control but a really nice place to sit.

Thanks to Ceris delivery services.

It needs an ignition switch (doesn't return to run) and a few other niggling bits and bobs. But it has lived in the same family since new, first owned by prev owners mother and then him, so that makes me the third owner.

This has the Aisin Warner slosh-box and seems to drive alright.

Plan to tidy it up, service and MOT, then it will be on loan duty to my old man (whilst I fix his daily). After this it will then be for sale, if anyone is interested 😎

Saab Update:

Ignition switch sorted - What a relief it fitted and works, not a fan of removing trim and plastic panels. 

N/S mirror replaced, as old one was all cracked.

New pair of wipers up front, and all booked in for an MOT next week, fingers crossed 🤞

If anyone wants to buy this, do let me know - Either with or without MOT

Have had 3 Saabs (a 9000 and two 9-5's) my last 9-5 Aero HOT saloon which I bought very cheaply from a UKSaab member who also took my auto 9-5 in p/x.

Purchased with lots of expensive uprated parts, such as Bilstein suspension, big Maptun brakes, lightweight wheels, competition clutch, Abbott exhaust, Abbott large intercooler, Noobtune Stage 3 map, larger throttle bodies, polybushes all round and so on. Was producing about 300 bhp, about as far as it could be taken without changing engine internals. No matter though, as it was as FAF and no turbo lag at all

Sold on to another UKSaab member for a bargain price as there was absolutely no way I could get it registered in Spain with all the mods.

Think that the Aero must be the cheapest performance family car you can buy.

And are there any 9-3' s and 9-5's left on the road that Karl at Noobtune hasn't remapped?

I take no credit (apart from changing the stereo and speakers) it was all the former owners work, I was just its custodian.

The new owner sent me some photos after it had been crashed into and written off 😭

He stripped it fearing the worst, but it was not as bad as he thought. With the help of his knackered 9-5 estate, he was able to rebuild it (he works in a body shop, which was fortunate).

Very glad to report that it lives on. I do miss it and glad the owner treats it right too.

You will very pleased at the result once it is done. I have never read a bad review of what Karl does.

Gone all nostalgic for a 9-5 Aero now, but I haven't see many Saabs out here, except for 9-3 convertibles

No, it's not for sale.

Still loving the 9000 life. What a bloody find this car has been. £300 last summer from a driveway over in Westhill after being off the road for several years. Some remedial work to the brakes, a new battery and some new tyres and it's cruising around like nothing happened.

 

The next job is the gearbox mount due to some movement in the drivetrain when rolling on and off the power. Just waiting for the powerflex heritage mount to be delivered.

Had a spare key made for the 9-3, I'm paranoid about losing/breaking it.

Local motor factor can do them but wanted £180, So I went to Leeds £90.

Locksmiths van, took him 10 minutes, worked perfectly.

Day later  left old key at home and went shopping.      Got back in car, lock won't turn, Spare key is at home, 10 miles away.

I'll ring D in L get her to bring my spare key.   Oh! I've  just changed my front door and she hasn't got a key for my house now.

After 20 minutes with much jiggling and reverse gear waggling it works. Drive straight home.

Get old key, old key won't turn either!

Check internet, they've all had the problem. Take the barrel out  file the brass bits down a bit, clean it all up.

TDLR.   Spare key is not always the way forward.

In other news, I successfully fixed the drivers side screen wash by removing the spring and small rubber diaphragm from the jet.

I'm driving it too much and it's not Summer yet. 6,000 miles may not be enough.
