How well did you do in French at school?

Better than German, but that's not saying much. Have picked up more since - but I totally missed the French connection, just saw it was in CA and thought it an Americanism. I shall retract my indignation forthwith :)

I thought it was supposed to be 500 Days?

That was 500 miles?

Depending on your age it’s either a long drive or a song best sung with a Leith accent?

Used a wire brush attachment on an angrygrinder to remove the paint/rust from a steel fire door at work today.

IMG_20250721_130503.jpg.29e713c375ca4f5b6394212d2430c59e.jpg

It fired one of the wires into my bicep.

It had gone in about 5mm and required quite a tug to pull it out. That's not the grump, I'd started at the top of the door and it was only once I'd got to the bottom that I discovered it had rusted through and it was only the paint holding it together.

Cunts who agree to buy my late mother’s house in May, pulled out today. 2 months wasted and we can’t do a thing about it or get any compensation.
Hope someone does the same to them and they’re left sleeping in the pavement.

Next door neighbour thought they could smell gas and called the Northern Gas people out, who did thorough checks and found nothing.

As I was adjacent to them they wanted to check mine too.  Found that the main gas tap next to the meter was leaking slightly and fitted a new tap, then checked inside and found a leak on the cooker and another on the cooker socket.

Shut the gas off to the property.  Need to get my heating engineer out now :(

I get that you're not happy about it, but better to be (gas) safe.

Indeed but it has probably been leaking for decades, no smell of gas except in the services cupboard outside where I have sometimes thought there may be a slight whiff.

I am currently in Good Hope hospital as I managed to come off my bike yesterday and have ended up with a broken collarbone and some broken ribs. Could be a lot worse but I am more annoyed about how it's going to impact my progress with the Corrado. I haven't seen how fucked the Z900 RS is yet as I ended up in the middle of the road and went from there to the ambulance without seeing the bike. At least it's a modern mass produced bike that can be sorted by insurance rather than a unicorn like Cedric was.

Oh that's shite.

Collar bone and ribs... Did you go over the high side?

Colleague at work is having car troubles... I'm not that close to him (he's a bit of a nob tbh although lately I've begun to understand why!)

2009 Zafira 1.6 in doom fucking blue with obligatory bodywork damage, literally the spitting image of its owner! He told me he took it to a garage, who said "something about the flexi?" and they quoted him £500 plus vat. Surely that can't be right?

Today I took pity on him and took him outside at smoke o clock and had a lie down next to his car.

The flexi is only attached to the front of the car by the worn as fuck exhaust rubbers behind it on the rest of the system holding them together 😂 Every hanger is fucked and the back heatshield has one bolt valiantly trying it's best with the rest laid on the backbox (I tried to rip it off but the last bolt is fine so it wouldn't come off). Very much looks like a 2009 original exhaust, it's done the full @LightBulbFuns brothers corsa!

Problem he has is it's going to be far quicker and cheaper and easiee to change the entire thing, I can't imagine a garage fighting to seperate the mid pipe to only fit the front bit. The 3 manifold nuts felt like blobs of rust too. It'll probably need the O2 sensor and new rubbers all round as well.

I sent him ebay links and cheap nasty parts alone is £200, I can well imagine £300 of labour on a job the garage doesn't want!

I channeled my inner @sierraman and told him pretty straight. My advice was find some local Facebook driveway spanner matey and see what they say. I didn't offer to help, partly as I've not got a free/non child weekend for a while, and I'd want a bit of dough too, he won't save that much at the end of the day anyway.

His only hope is he said his brother works on cars. I told him to be very nice to him 😂

I am not even sure to be honest it happened so fast I was on the main road and a car pulled out in front of me from the right and I had about enough time to say fuck before I hit their passenger side wing. Thanks dude it hasn't put me off biking at least after all the effort I went to get my licence I am not giving up that easy!

hah! Deja vu much? :) you will have to change your username to AVASMan at this rate

funnily enough about £450 is what a garage quoted us for the exhaust on the Corsa, IIRC they said £250 for the exhaust (and sensor I think) and £180 for labour? but I/they might of gotten that backwards since £250 for the exhaust sounded a bit pricy while £180 for the labour sounded on the cheaper side (figuring London rates) no idea if that is actually a fair rate or not, as you know in true Autoshite fashion we ended up DIY'ing it on road in the council estate LOL

I think all in exhaust+sensor+service-items-variously the total was about £195? or so? so saved a decent chunk of change thanks to your links/pointers :)

Mom just sent me some photos, left hand side looks okay but the radiator has taken a wallop on the right side and the brake lever is snapped in half! I actually had it booked in for a service at Derby Kawasaki for 30th of July (I bought it from Cradely Heath but they tried to claim I hadn't paid for accessories when I ordered it and tried to charge me again, sorted it in the end but left a sour taste in mouth so I have avoided them since) and obviously phoned to cancel it today and they were really nice and said I could get my insurance to transfer it to them for assessment/repair so I will hopefully get that arranged.

He needs exactly what your brothers corsa had, almost down to the same parts bar the Zafira b/astra is longer. Same 3 bolts, same seized into place O2 sensor.

I'm not that close to him to outright offer, and if he asks me to help I'd want some money for what would be a days/mornings (won't know until the first bolt snaps 🤷) work and driving to Wycombe and back.

I hope he finds another solution but at least he knows what he needs now

That looks way better than I was expecting for hitting a car pulling across you.

Did you glance it and get chucked off? I had imagined a full on SMIDSY into the side of them.

Collar bone and ribs will be a fucker but fortunately nothing that won't heal (and hurt in winter :D) with a bit of time.

Yeah I think I glanced their wing and bounced off. Apparently there is dashcam footage from a driver instructors car that captured it all but I don't know how/if I will get to see it. A police car that was passing took down their details. It's not an experience I am looking to repeat so I think I will have to become hyper vigilant when it comes to junctions once I am back on two wheels. I was looking at LS430's again earlier as I really liked the one I had before and the thought of a two ton barge with airbags is mighty appealing right now lol

Have traditional package holidays disappeared in the UK? Every Irish travel agent's package holidays turn out to be using Ryanair flights that leave at 6:30 in the morning, so actual luggage costs extra, and transfers to the hotel cost around €75pp extra. Which seems to somewhat negate the point of a package holiday.

Ryanair sell flights, not packages. Aer Lingus are better, depending on routes.

Michael O’Leary seems to take pride in treating customers like shite and extracting every penny possible after you’ve fallen for the cheap headline fare.

No, TUI are still very active here, mainly using their own planes. They also do a lot of all inclusive ones.

They have a subsidiary that does follow the Ryanair pricing model though.

I had thought that Ryanair didn't take bookings from third party agencies.
