My grump? - That these things exist.

What chance does any marriage* have if it starts with a ride in one of these joyless heaps?

Just look at the hateful thing. If I win eurobillions I shall sponser banger races for these until every single one is gone.

Beauford, the original ones used classic mini doors.

I almost bought a kit once.

I'd have scrapped it by now though.  Cortina innit, get sick of changing the void bushes.

I thought it was almost an entire Mini bodyshell from the bulkhead back, just with the roof cut off.

Whilst I hate the way they look, I’m staggered at how many were sold so mostly I’m jealous that such an ugly product can be part of such a successful business plan🙁

Probably correct,  I had many minis lying about and liked the shape, but the build looked over complicated for my abilities at the time.

So I bought a Dutton Sierra  instead.

Also, the lass who lost her mum suddenly a few weeks back rang on Friday to say her sister had been rushed to hospital - she is now seriously ill and they have found a lump in her breast.

Phone call from boss this morning - the sister has been diagnosed with terminal liver cancer and has a few weeks to live.  Another child who will be growing up without her mother.  :(

As I wrote, you can't do anything about Travellers, short of genocide.

Even the Irish don't like 'em, but they have a very active bunch of advocates in Pavee Point.

I think don't like them is a bit mild. I'd say almost universally loathed and feared outside of the leafier parts of Dublin. Where they never see any. Even people who come over as liberal start talking like Himmler when the subject comes up.

Need to sort out some ID verification through a thing called RealMe.  Basically take your info to an AA office, they record it and take a pic and voila, a central digital record of who you are.  Makes referencing and job apps a bit easier.   And I need verification for financial adviser status and a limited time to get it done.

Went to The office, did the business and was told “no, we have the passport, we don’t need address verification”.  I pointed out the official email requested proof of address but no, they knew what was required and it was fine.  I even asked them to record it anyway just in case but no, not necessary.

Got the acknowledgement from RealMe of my passport but a reminder that they need proof of address before they can verify me.  For.....Fucks......Sake.  Can’t get back there until Friday and that’s the deadline day for registration for adviser stuff.  I hate other people fucking my plans through incompetence and I will be complaining.

Anyway on the way out I saw a McDonalds.  Was lunchtime so thought fuck it.  The requested vanilla milkshake was rather more yellow than usual on account of being Banana.  I pointed out my requested flavour only to be told that I ordered Banana.  Nope, I ordered vanilla, maybe the lady misheard.  Nope, it says Banana here says lady.  I respond with nope, it shouldn’t do, I requested vanilla and would never request Banana as I don’t like banana shakes.  Could I swap it for vanilla?

I will have to pay for another one apparently.  No way says I, you served the wrong flavour.  Not a problem but very much your mistake.  Vanilla was reluctantly served without a word and the window slammed in my face.

Fuck you AA and fuck you McDonalds.

A very worthy grump @Parky. What a bunch of wankspanners.

Dublin has its own internal problems. Always has had. The ongoing low-level war between food delivery couriers and waste-of-space youths is just one of many problems.

I just thought it was a weird way to go about asking a favour, I fixed his power steering pipe Tuesday afternoon and it’s on the floor waiting for him when he comes back to collect it, he didn’t leave any contact info and I’m not sure where he works.
I don’t work for a hose or hydraulics company, we just happen to have all the kit for our own purposes.

Update-

He never came back for his pipe.

Yorkshire Bank is now Virgin Money.  Got my first statement today.

It's all bleedin Red along the top.

I thought I was in debt.

Logged into my YT channel. Asked if I would take a survey related to social media. Ok ...But what a load of old billhooks. Questions about feeling supported by the social media I use. Do I feel that they act in a correct manner. Questions about earning money, from the channel, etc etc.

Wasted around 15 mins there then.

Just filled out my census online.  Put in my date of birth - next screen says "You are 41 years old, is that correct?"  Well yes, yes it is, but fuck me it sounds harsh when I see it in black and white like that...

Did not know this.  Reckon I've got five or six off me, the Mrs and the kids in the last few years.

Not so much a grump as a wince, but my boss was just proudly telling me about how he managed to change the washer pump on his wife's Qashaqai (he's not really a car person). He Googled it and found out you had to go in through the wheelarch.

'So, I jacked the car up, but because the only jack I have is the one from my car (a 350Z) it only lifted it an inch or so, so I had to let all the air out of the tyre to get it off. It was definitely wobbling around a bit and I had to give the pump a few hits to get it off, but I got there in the end'.

Turned out the washer jets were blocked.

my grump, the old dear across the road from me has just lost her youngest-

Martin, a 55 year old hail-n-hearty bin man dropped down dead on Tuesday morning.

His misses heard an almighty crash from down stairs after he had got up for work,

and found him laid out, stone cold dead.

it just makes you think.......

If all of you have survived this long with no apparent ill-effects, then either the ticks involved were not carriers of Lyme's (in which case you're lucky), or you're all immune to it (in which case you're very lucky).

Indeed, we are very much aware of Lyme disease, but wasn't aware of the non-existent scheme for testing ticks.

Speaking of ticks, the spot on my leg where it was latched on is healing pretty well. I am by no means in the clear though, anything could happen within the next few weeks. I was by a sheep field and the tick was miniscule, which is slightly comforting. More comforting is the fact that it was on for less than 12 hours. I'm not all that worried about it, just a bit of a shock to the system.

If we start putting all these ticks into containers, does that mean we have a tick box culture?

...I'll get me coat.

So we have a new £50 note with Alan Turing on it. Jolly good.

However when you read the bbc article: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-56503741

However, campaigners are still questioning how much the Bank's collection of banknotes represents society. Three feature men - Winston Churchill on the £5 note, JMW Turner on the £20 note, and soon Alan Turing on the £50 note. Only the £10 note, with the portrait of Jane Austen, depicts a woman apart from the Queen, and all are white.

In an interview with the BBC, Mr Bailey said he wanted to see diverse ethnic minorities represented on future banknotes.

What a load of wet woke bollocks. Obviously we should have a transgender black woman on our money. There's obviously 1000's of suitable great Britons who match that description, who are much more deserving than mr. Turing who didn't really achieve that much.

Perhaps you have a doppelganger impersonating you. That would be confusing.

What makes you believe Diane Abbott is a transgender black woman?  I'm sure there's a joke there that I'm just not getting right now.

As for Alan Turing, you could always get yourself up to speed with his Wikipedia article to find out the one or two things he did: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Turing Mr Turing was subjected to what is effectively chemical castration because of his sexuality so putting his face on some money is small recompense for what our own society and government did to him after all he did for them.

That, I think, is understood. I think the main moan is the fact that the campaigners mentioned on the BBC article don't believe he's worthy because he's just another white person on our legal tender, completely bypassing the amazing work he did and his rather sad ending. I could be getting it wrong, however.

If I were to make a suggestion for someone to be put on notes, it would be Bill Tutte. Another codebreaker from the war, but he was ferociously talented and managed to, by hand, begin decoding the much more difficult Lorenz code used by high-ranking Nazi officials IIRC. Also helped create the first programmable, electronic, digital computer, Colossus. This is his page on Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W._T._Tutte

When I went to Bletchley Park in 2019, he, in comparison to the others, got a single board explaining what he did to help with the war effort. Considering what he did, I hope that he'll get some worthy mention one day.
