The grumpy thread

Dumped the C5 at the scrapyard, collected the Civic (and forgot any photo's).

Went to the PO to cancel the tax - PO closed.

Tried another - they don't do tax, only main PO's :(

Nightmare to get to.  Possibly more grumps to come.

Drove the Civic home - it is out of sight round the back of the houses.  No idea of how fast I was going, instruments hard to see other than the rev counter.

Discovered the speedo is obscured by the wheel, brilliant bit of design Honda :(

Had a job getting into the petrol flap, took about ten minutes.   Must have looked quite suspicious.

And it is far too hot.  28 ℃ in the shade, 42 ℃ in the sun, 10,000,000 ℃ in the car.

Isn't that why people live in Scotland?

First time I ever visited Scotland a local of Skye told me ‘never worry about the weather, it will be different in an hour’, he wasn’t far wrong!

I shouldn't have taken the piss. Weather has turned to shit here in Cornwall. Drizzle and very grey skies. Hottest day my arse.

Massive grump. I've been whizzing up and down the coast, shopping for beer and more driving about in the glorious sunshine in the mx5 with the roof down. I've had a great time but now I've looked in the mirror, my forehead is slightly red.

Grump over.

Listening to the 2010 Sondheim Prom on R3: Judi Dench 'singing' Send In The Clowns...

VERDICT: she's a fine actor, but she couldn't carry a tune in a bucket!

Which Civic?  There's a recall on the Mk6 for sticky flaps.

A red one - 59 reg is all I know.

Took ages to find it beside the throttle pedal.

Bloody new-fangled shite.

You lot have got a lot to learn about hot days, It’s not even above 40c!

That being said, Summer can fuck right off.

Winter here is lovely, the temperature stays in the the teens and all the plants stop looking dead. Call me crazy but I would seriously consider living in the UK through the winter and then returning to Australia for winter, and so on.

My father in law came around for a meal, when he arrived (in long trousers and shirt buttoned - you can’t take the army out of him!). He was dying in the heat as he hates the hot weather and mentioned that there was not a single cloud in the sky, I fed him cold beer and we did him a meal. About an hour and a half in clouds started to come over and the heavens opened and we got a full on thunder storm. We watched the lightning strikes as I drove him the mile home. An hour later sunny again.

Southern Iraq is having a week's worth of temperatures exceeding 50 degrees Celsius. That is just crazy stupid hot.

Cheers. They're normally taller but were battered early on with weather all over the shop. They definitely brighen up the back corner of the garden even after dark!

My back felt better this morning, right up until I coughed, and now I'm back to being in pain in most positions.

If I had time before we were due to go away, I'd totally be buying the VW Phaeton I've seen locally for heated/cooled massaging moo seats.

Superb effort. Mine are utterly shit. Sausage fingered rather than green fingered. 20200801_112141.thumb.jpg.f5be57aed0f19b5dacdb7a80e174cdc4.jpg

Just seen a mate who lives Bodmin way.He says there's a fella standing by the A30 westbound dressed as the grim reaper.Which would be funnier if the situation wasn't so serious. Those of us who live in Cornwall are taking Covid very seriously, the Emmetts don't seem to care from what I've seen.Which pisses me off tbh.

So from Monday the A30 is going to be mined at Launceston and the Tamar bridge toll increased from £1.50 to £ 1000000.I wish lol.

Bloody Devonians should have to pay to enter our county, not the other way around. On a side note, the story with the Tamar bridge is that the tolls were to cover the costs of construction only. It was built in '61 and the costs were paid off a few years ago. Funnily enough though, the buggers still charge to cross it!

Yep, we had volcanoes of flying ants erupting in the front garden on Thursday. Never seen it before but I think it'll be as close to a plague of locusts as I would be comfortable with.

She is a hundred and eleventy twelve though, bless her.

The thing with that song (and a lot of Sondheim's tunes actually) is that you don't actually have to be a particularly good singer in order to carry off the performance.

Gosh darn it I've just gone and found exactly what I'm looking for.

s-l1600.thumb.jpg.ca66410574fe5840d60ad339170868ac.jpg

This is full on BUY IT NOW territory for me, just call a delivery person to pick it up and give it to me, worry about what's broken later.  Of course I don't have the asking and what's tied up in the BX wouldn't cover it either.  You can guarantee when I do have the asking I won't find something this perfect out there when I'm actually looking and trying to buy something.  Frig.
