I've been properly surprised by the prices of cruises, now that Chodweaver Jr #1 works on them, I tend to look at the cost - granted that you can spend a lot more on the drinks packages, special events, in-port trips and food upgrades but still, $778 for 13 nights/14 days from Southampton to Miami via Boston, New York and Port Canaveral (not including the flight back) sounds alright...

Works out cheaper than an equal quality hotel with free* travel thrown in from what I've seen.

218 miles of good driving today.  Shropshire to Kent, easy job.  Apart from two things:

i)  My shoulder (dodgy to start with) is now playing up again.

A few months ago I went cold turkey on caffeine, I'd been drinking a lot of coffee thanks to a convenient bean to cup coffee machine that was a bit too convenient

Within a week my head hurt that much I could barely open my eyes and my shoulder was that bad I couldn't change gear without pain , went back on the coffee and back to normal

Posted

Took me a good four weeks to get over the effects of stopping caffeine from chain drinking tea a few years ago. After one week I was asleep every time I sat down.

Posted

Brought the Civic's battery in to see if I could get some charge in it. Could I find the charger? Could I fuck.

The thing has seemingly evaporated. Checked all the cars, in the basement, in the storage closest, emptied out under the bed and looked all over the flat.

Gone. Bastard.

Decided I fancied a came of Wipeout (Playstation game, not shit gameshow presented by a smug midget) so started combing ebay looking for a PS1. I gave my old one to a mate a few years ago as I barely used it anymore. He was bang into Wipeout. I remember when he finished the game he then gave himself the task of finishing the whole game without touching the sides. As in if he did touch the sides he has to start from the 1st track again.

He did it. He also smoked a lot of weed whilst doing so.

Anyhow, I digress. I then found out that you can get Wipeout on the PS4 which is compatible with a Virtual Reality headset for maximum motion sickness fun. Cue much excitement. This is something that 20yr old me would've wet my pants over.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1Zawka93T4

However it's gonna be about £500 and for one game and I'm having trouble justifying it.

But it looks friggin' amazing.

Wipeout is a blinder of a game, on a PS4 with a VR headset would be mental.

EDIT - I reckon you could charge for goes on it and recoup your money.

I went to one of my sheds to get a minor wing for tickman.

Pigeons have been living there.

I don't drink much coffee/tea, really.  I've been through that phase when I was a trainee teacher...!

One shoulder has a chronic impingement (dodgy one today) and the other one has a sclerosis.  Both are fucked and play up from time-to-time.  Sometimes it can go ages and be fine, then I'll just have a bad day or week.  Fucks me right off.

Our lass has decided she's driving 250 miles tomorrow afternoon so asked me to have a shufty around her car to see if it was alright.

It passed an MOT last week so I was just going at the oil etc, but have a look at this fucker!!

That's an 8 year old fiat 500

I've no time to do it so I've cleaned it up and lashed a load of acetone/ATF on it and told her to take it down to the garage in the morning, I doubt that top nut will come off with my electric impact guns but they might be able to shock it free with a good air gun.

I wouldn't even trust a Kwikfit branch to top up my windscreen washer fluid.

M8 your washer bottle is knackered, we’ve priced one up for £350 plus vat, do you want us to fit it? Plus all your tyres, brakes and exhaust are fucked, I’ve done you a quote that resembles a Chicago phone number for the remedial work ok?

Eldest sons brought his Peugeot 206 around the other night, a bit of judder from the clutch an take up, I assured him it was nothing to worry about - clutch may be on its way out (85K miles) but should be OK for quite a while yet, next day there was a nasty noise clutch pedal went to the floor, unable to engage any gears with engine running - bugger.

Towed the car home and have spent the day getting to this stage

attachicon.gifP1040259.JPG

Yes the release bearing has exploded into lots of pieces, I have a new clutch kit (£47.00 for a Borg & Beck) and am really looking forward to tomorrow when I will try and put it all back together

attachicon.gifP1040260.JPG

Well it went as well as I had feared / hoped, the gearbox is in the correct place and bolted up, but I had to give in tonight as I just couldn't get the drivers side bottom ball joint to locate in the hub, I was on my own trying to lever the bottom arm down with one hand and trying to manoeuvre the hub with the other and it wasn't having it, the pass side went in no problem, I will engage the services of an assistant and have another go later in the week, anyway a resume of today.

Time taken - Far too long - longer than it should

Swear words used = 1367

Concerned neighbours "is everything OK?" - 4

No of attempts to lift box into position with selection of jacks and wood - 3

Grazed and skinned knuckles - 6

Wife saying "Come in now - enough is enough it will be dark soon" - 1

Anyway that's the weekend over, back to the day job tomorrow

Back to the day job looking like you decided a bit of bare knuckle fighting was an excellent way to pass the weekend, bonus points if you managed to catch the wrong end of a knuckle bar and give yourself a black eye for the full effect!

Sometimes it’s easier to undo the wishbone bolts all round, fit the bottom swivel ball joint then line the back mounts up with a screwdriver and hammer the bolts in.

Clutches are an absolute ball ache on the driveway. Couple of hundred well spent at a garage usually.

I have got a lovely scar on my thumb from the first time I was trying to get a ball joint back in on one of these. Drop the subframe down a bit and it will go back in. Don't try to jack the leg up like I did all those years ago cos it bloody hurt.

You know what's going to happen next.

You'll go out with your assistant, they'll give it a little wiggle and everything will fall into place.

They'll give you that look and say,

"What was the problem?"

The wankers that own the farm where I store the Galaxy and my mate has 80% of a Volvo 66 are being utter, utter cunts. Am totally sick of the entire bunch of condescending, arrogant and ignorant assholes.

This is seriously pissing me off and am looking at options with regards to the Galaxy, whether to MOT it and punt it on or somehow (highly doubtful) find some non-existent cash to MOT, insure and tax it.

Wasp stings...... I cannot remember the last time I was stung, I usually batter the little fuckers. Nerf gun battle yesterday, picked up the gun and didn't notice one on the inside of the handle.... so it promptly stung inside my little finger. Right at the base joint to the palm.....

Being a toughie - I only cried a little bit....

Seriously - it is still fucking annoying the hell out of me - I need to use a keyboard (here and in real life work things) I DISTINCTLY remember them stinging, it hurt a minute or two - then you just continued on with life.... except the time I splattered one in the corner of my eye while on my Raleigh Chopper...... but that's another story.

Day 4 in Peugeot Kingdom and still 2 out of 10 bags missing. Stupid Brussels Airlines  and Luftwaffe pointing fingers at each others as they have no clue where they may be.

Next time i will drive here in my 504, will be less hazzle for sure.

Still having motivational problems regarding shite fixage and its slowly eating into the fleet.....Minor has barely turned a wheel since a fuck ton of welding back in June.  I have ordered and got the new master cylinder and associated piping but I know the old one will be a cunt to extract.   Basically, the bolts are held in by the torsion bars to stop them "falling" out, so replacing what is after all basically a service item should* involve suspension dismantlage.  It won't - it will involve a big fuck off pry bar.  Will still be a cunt, though.

So, I greased the Cowley yesterday which thankless task was fully rewarded with finding a split in the offside steering rack gaiter wider, blacker and greasier than Janet Pulborough's fanny at Tech college.   So that's more steering-related dismantling.  Not by me, though, its going in for that - splitting 60 year old ball joints is no longer on my list of day-off pleasures.

I got the Fiesta Ghia back out of the lock-up to use for work until Cowley fixage occurs and remembered that the fucking ABS light hasn't gone out for about 120 miles and the MOT is due next month.  Which is now only 12 days away.    And I have just waved Mrs Rocker off to her keep fit class only to hear the 190E aux belt fucking whinnying again.

I fired up Auto Trader this morning to have a gander at local shite for sale and that has finally destroyed my will to live.   Well, my will to buy another old car anyway.  What an unremitting parade of bloated fucking warning-light-ridden Mr & Mrs McDonald-munching dog-faced slopy-fronted resale-silver Halfords hub-capped cup-holding pig shit that was.   Where are all the £750 Dolomites, Granadas and Datsuns now?

Even my previous route of buying another bit of old shite instead of fixing the first one now seems to involve £2000.  Which would seriously improve any one of the cars I do actually own, I suppose.

Getting frustrated at what to buy. Obviously, my recent track record has been very mixed. I decided to keep the 605 as it's comfortable and good on fuel. But it leaves a spare (or two) classic policy to fill, but I need something reasonably practical, entertaining and reliable (to a point).

I've also got a bit of a conundrum with the C5 as I have planned on acquiring something a bit silly and estate shaped, all being well, so it's potentially being rendered obsolete.

But it's very tough trying to find something reasonably priced/not being flipped/FJ approve of at the current time. I fancied an R25 that just popped up but FJs infernal hatred of Renault barges derailed that. I considered the 760 in Stoke but it looks a money pit. I also saw a Dedra Turbo project being sold down in Gloucester but I tried a Lancia and that didn't end well....I've got a few decent saved searches so will probably end up with something, but my old car mojo is very low.

Essentially everything bar the 605 is for sale.

AND THE 164 IS STILL HERE.

Felt a bit seasick yesterday on the ferry coming back from IoW.

Still feel seasick 24 hours later.

I hope it's not shaken up my lugholes and brings the vertigo back.

It can take a while to clear, I didn’t have it for years but the injections I do weekly for my arthritis cause it really badly, it has taken the best part of week to clear completely before :-( but that is within normal expectations apparently. For future reference I get prescribed these small patches called Scopoderm, they go behind your ear and last three days. Sort it 100%.

The annoying thing is I've been on cross-channel ferries twice, 2 flights and a friend's fishing boat in the last 18 months and been fine. Over on Thursday, felt great. Came back, solent like a mill pond, feel chunderous.
