Adding a grump of my own now, which is not very me and a really minor grump.

The seller knows that it's not 10E, I know it's not 10E, so why the fuck do you advertise it at the wrong price?

I can't believe it is meant to be 10,000 so is 10E = 100E or 1000E, how fucked is this bodged old wagon?

 

What does does it achive except bombard you with loads of shitty texts offering 10E and scaring off anybody that may have offered sensible coin.

 

 

now count down from 10, 9 , 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.... and breathe

 

 

The website makes you put a price, but since everyone thinks "make a fair offer" is a sensible thing to do, they just put a nominal price to keep the website happy.  These folk can fuck right the fuck off, because there is no way to win that scenario...you make a low offer, they ignore you. You make an average offer, they huff and puff about wanting more, you make a high offer, they wont exactly say "no mate, I was expecting less", will they? I just dont bother even trying with them any more. Add in to the mix the non French accent which immediately adds 15% Foreigner Tax to the price because apparently all Brits are minted and they expect me to turn up in a solid gold Rolls Royce and have little clouds of fifty euro notes tumbling out my pockets and fluttering away on the breeze as I walk and and its just all a waste of fucking time.

 

 

 

Its almost as irritating as the wankers who "accidentally" leave a zero off the end of their price I assume to make their ad show up in more searches where people have put an upper price limit. Why yes, I am browsing cars under 2k, saw your advert at 850...of course I will pay 8500 on a spur of the moment decision.

 

I just cant be fucked with the whole process any more.

Well, just got back from the mechanic and the head gasket is kippered.

 

Options are as follows:

 

1a. Remove head and inspect, skim head and replace gasket - $3000

 

1b. Remove head and inspect, rebuild motor - $15000

 

2. Swap in second hand motor - $3000

 

3. Add K-seal or similar and cross fingers - $50

 

Unfortunately, I can only afford option 3 at the moment, so that was undertaken so I could drive home.

The plan at the moment is to raise funds to undertake plan 1a, or 2 if the block is buggered.

So, for the time being, the Jag is up on bricks in the garage until further work can be funded.

 

In conclusion: cunt cunt cuntity cunt.

You missed option d) install small block Chev & lpg, plenty were running about round Aus compliance as such.

Just dropped my son off at Liverpool airport , they now charge £3 to use the "express" dropoff near the airport , drop off 2 is free for 40 minutes but as it's belting it down and he'd only got a suede jacket on I had to stump up £3 as it was a way from the terminal building as you'd expect for most £££

 

As I drove out I saw signs NO STOPPING , then I noticed the camera van pointing up the access road ready to issue the £100 fines for anyone daring to stop to drop somebody off

Ouch ouch ouch! I was only just looking at your pictures of it earlier and thinking how lovely it looked. Any idea why the HGF failed?

 

Mechanic said that the engine rebuild done by a previous owner may not have been done properly or done by someone who didn't know what they were doing.

The issue is that water is getting into cylinder 4, which is a fault with the later XK engines due to cuts in the block made between the cylinders which was done in the factory to counteract an issue they had with blocks cracking.

 

Wouldn't use K seal for that. Its not cheap but I'd do it properly. Get Steel Seal instead.

 

A Penrite product was used at the recomendation of my mechanic. It is only a temporary measure, done to get me home.

 

You missed option d) install small block Chev & lpg, plenty were running about round Aus compliance as such.

 

If any engine swapping was to take place, a Ford Barra with a huuuuuge turbo would be shoehorned in!

Would it be worth re-torquing the head? I've had success doing this, sometimes takes a few goes, only viable in early stage of HGF not if it's been cooked. I've had a few gaskets go, and have kept motoring by leaving the rad cap loose, works OK on old stuff where there's a decent reserve, allows you to repair at your leisure, but sooner the better.

Lots of stress at the moment.

Whilst not all at the same time, I can relate to all of this. Life can throw you some fairly shitty curve-balls, but my only advice here would be DO NOT dwell on what could have been or might have been if things were different, it will ONLY serve to depress. Also, comparing yourself to others will never be beneficial.

 

I don't know what industry you work in, but have you considered looking at something more managerial in your field? At 45 you undoubtedly have not only a fair bit of experience in your chosen field, but also in how to deal with people and generally get shit done. Employers know this, and it may be that your looking at jobs that are aimed more at people with less experience than you. By aiming higher, you might be more on target for what employers expect.

 

I'm currently locked in a not-dissimilar situation. Employer is utter crap, and I do not have some of the skills that are expected in similar jobs at similar pay grades. I've started broadening my search, both industry-wise and grade-wise, and am regularly surprising myself that I might well be suitable for something I didn't expect to be.

It's the same at most airports now, Leeds - where I used to work - Charge £3.00 for the pick up/drop off area, it's the bigest revenue stream for the airport.

People forget that Airports are a private business, and not a government funded establishment. With the revenue from airlines coming down due to no frills etc, parking and shopping is where the money is.

I had a customer kicking off about having to walk to the aircraft rather than being provided with a bus. I asked how much they paid for their flight - £22. Think they then understood why there was no bus.

Completely agree with Talbot on what he's saying. Always remember you've made a decision for a reason. I've had it at work lately having to make some tough decisions but sometimes you have to go on what you know and go with your gut.

I sorted a second deal on my camper. I hope you know what I am talking about? Look at camper for sale, or ebay fuckwits. The guy offered me £500 less, but I accepted. Its not so much the money, as I need it gone, so I can get on with my other projects. He is supposed to be coming round this morning with £3000 cash. It's gone 11 and no messages.  Not looking good. I will message him. Keep you posted.

Same in Belgium, where anything old is wayyyyyyyy overpriced anyway. It just takes bloody ages finding anything worthwhile listing as want - and then seeing it is actually affordable. Every single car I've bought over here (or in Germany when I lived there) has had me asked when I'm 'taking it back'

 

Car grump - I paid a local to transport the Spit and GT6 - he's only fuggged off on holiday with them not over yet. 'Ran out of time' apparently.... cunt of the highest order. Everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING closes down here July and August, so finding someone else who's actually fucking here is proving tougher than having Liz Hurly and Halle Berry licking my butt crack clean after a dodgy prawn vindaloo........

Doing ok today. Structured, organised, tidy, with a sense of purpose. Very important to me that is.

 

Got myself a list of things that need sorting. Is massive but by breaking it up a bit means I can tick it off as I go.

Even if I only do a quarter of it, it makes the list shorter and that’s something achieved.

 

Definitely feel better. Exhaustion gave me 6hours kip last night, most I have had in one go and I do feel as if the pressure valve has unstuck and the stress has bled off a bit. Thinking is definitely clearer too, had a head full of cotton wool yesterday which sufferers will be familiar with.

Totally. I always compare myself to others but have an annoying habit of going for folk who are just naturally lucky or talented bastards.

 

Agree on the job too. Definitely time to do something else. Maybe Parky Sr and I should just start buying flats cheap at auction, give them a quick spruce up (both of us are experienced DIYers so can do the lot ourselves) and flick them on for a quick £20k profit each time? He is always moaning how his cash is doing nothing and if I do stuff through my company I can probably offset all the costs against my earnings anyway.

 

Do that for a bit then move to NZ and repeat...plus it will give Jr a job too, and Parkette so might be a nice little family business opp.

Minor grump in the scheme of things but tescos meal deals or not as the case maybe. WTF are they putting pork pies on a shelf marked 'meal deal snacks' for when they can't be purchased as part of a meal deal? I mean FFS, it's not difficult really.

I dunno about Liverpool, bit MAG are gradually fucking up every single airport I seem to need to use.  They picked up Stansted after the owners were deemed to have too many airports, and they are quickly running it into the ground like MAN and EMA (which they apparently can own without it being too many).  I sometimes think they are actually an experiment to see just how shitty they can make the passenger experience before it starts to affect the bottom line - I'm amazed what people will put up with - then again there's no choice.

 

Trump's visit to Stansted did make me smile though, their Twitter feed was full of people wondering if he'd get the same shitty service as the rest of us.

Classic marketing trick. They're there to make you think they're part of the meal deal and when you go the the checkout, they hope you won't notice that the pork pie and the other two items have a gone through as separate, full price items.

Piss poor organising of local events this year which all tie in this weekend.

 

Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend. The traffic management for this event is absolutely terrible this year. They've put signs up saying "no access to FoS - Do not follow sat nav" in various locations around Chichester. Half way up the road from one of these (Broyle Rd from Chi to Lavant), there are official signs directing people to Festival of Speed. Some of which are through narrow single track lanes. People are turning off where they feel because the signs are so poor. The traffic management company bods were getting really irate with us needing to go to one of the villages behind Goodwood because it was their bin day, even though we took a massive diversion to get there.

Not helped with a cycling club holding a race/riding event from somewhere near Portsmouth to Petworth via guess where.

 

Also signs up for a railway Gala nearby this weekend, so many people coming to that.

 

And roadworks on some of the roads around Goodwood.

 

Why organise several events, one which is a huge international motoring show, for the same weekend in and around a town that can't handle the traffic for its own population at the best of times. (I have nothing against the events, plus got to see plenty of nice vehicles).

Oh God, what have I done. I hate selling cars nearly as much as I hate moving house, but I have listed the red Land Rover on eBay. I'm still in two minds which one I prefer, but as I've now swapped the number plate over I have committed to keeping the grey one. I have no doubt that I will find that I have the world's first unsellable Land Rover.

Yeah, I’ve noticed the exact same thing. I’ve got work to do in Chichester and out that way but I’m fucked if I’m going out that way anytime now. It’s a nightmare trying to get about in some places.

 

 

If you're heading this way over the weekend Dan I would suggest you head to the A3 and come off at Rowlands castle and head towards Chichester from that sort of direction, or go up to Sheet area and along the A272 toward Midhurst, but then go north to Easebourne and along the A272 again towards Petworth, and down the 285. Then join the A27 near Tangmere if working further East of Chi. As long as you avoid the A286 between Lavant and Cocking this weekend you'll be good!

 

I'm not sure where the Railway Gala is this weekend, I think it's Amberley.

Is it so difficult?  Really?  I think I'm a good customer: loyal, always pay what I'm asked, even referred a few mates.  So a week ago yesterday I went to the garage I use, across the road from work, to give notice that I wanted the Tacuma taking for MoT.   Nice easy few quid, even allowing for the fact he will have to come to my house to collect it and drop it off.

 

"Oh yeah, sure, I'll arrange that and let you know."

 

So today I checked the date: it runs out tomorrow.  Phoned the garage: "It's going to be Tuesday now."  Right... you only had a week to arrange it.

 

Still, I suppose it won't kill me to be carless for a couple of days.

We have a wasp problem. Have had for a while. Today after work, beers and plans have happened. Photos have been taken of such plans. Operation Wasps is happening shortly. Photos have been taken and will be added. Fuck those guys. They’ve been killing our bees. More to come guys..

Lost my old O2 sim card for my UK phone number. It was an old pay as you go deal from years and years ago. I think it was still in an old handset when I flung it a while back having a clear-out. Cant remember the security questions or even the last top-up date or balance so the O2 customer bod was fuck-all use, which isnt their fault, I suppose.....I only use it once every few months for the occasional UK call that needs to come from a UK number. It had about thirty quid credit on it iirc.

 

The grump gets grumpier because I found a replacement O2 sim card and now have to try to memorise a new number. And I have just found out that any credit is NOT carried over to the next month as it was on the old account. Apparently they dont do that any more.
