Updated. Took 6 minutes. Sat on that progress level and time for the whole time. Then rebooted back in again. Never got to 100%.

 

But it needs updating again and the corporate antivirus has broken itself.

 

Yes that is a 2.1GB update.

I managed to get out of the space by pulling about 15 manoeuvres, I eventually got out though it was tight!!

 

NO cars where harmed in the escape of my car to get to work!

My dad cut out the crap and just bounced a car out of the way once. The owner who flippantly dismissed a polite request to move his car from across the drive soon changed tack when he realised dad meant business.

 

 

I would suggest with understanding, but don't condone, the only way of tackling these idiots is to risk being caught "breaking the law" yourself

 

I read somewhere (other legal opinions are available) that you can move a car legally but would be liable if it was damaged in the process.  Of course the shoe is then on the other foot so the selfish parker would then have to claim against you.

 

Tow rope around the lower suspension arm and drag it out of the way is a very tempting option.

The people directly opposite sometimes have overnight guests who park across their drive. Because the road is narrow, this doesn't leave enough space for us to swing on or off of our drive.

 

The previous owner of our house had one small car so she could probably squeeze through - not ok for our two big cars though!

 

Always start with politeness, so we've asked them a couple of times not to do it. They've moved the cars, with a grunt rather than an apology... But they keep doing it.

 

Here's the kicker though: I've recently noticed (when Mrs H was out in her car) that they come all the way on to our drive in order to get enough space to swing back onto theirs. How dumb, or how completely lacking in awareness of other people, do you have to be not to make that link? If they need to do that, how on earth did they think it's ok to effectively halve the width of the road?

If central government had done the sensible thing of saying to all the NHS - you're using this system/this DB schema then that might happen. But no it's much better* for all the trusts/GPs/etc to pick their own incompatible systems & then try to link them. Plus not many trusts etc ever bother to upload all the old records, hence where I work has had a EPR (electronic patient record) for about four years & still employ a team of people to wander about with trollies full of notes.

This is exactly my situation with the drive opposite, there is a vehicle parked there night and day, Makes it difficult to swing the Picasso and the 75 onto the drive.  I can get the Pic into the left hand side of the drive as I can usually swing in front of the parked vehicle but to get my car next to the Pic I have to be very careful not to bang the parked car and have to get very close to it indeed.

You can see where the Corsa is opposite is my drive, instead of the Corsa though there is usually a Transit parked there!

Pah. I had a €30 (on offer down from €40) Philips 1.7l 3kW thing, it lasted just under two years and went back to shop because shared house use and broken switch. The retailer swapped it for new one exactly the same, but six weeks ago (and 6 years later) I was getting fed-up of it wetting itself and the counter top, so it got put in the WEEE pile in the shed and a €39 Russell Hobbs 1.7l 3kW quiet boil bought. It is quieter too (idea for those 2am cuppas).

 

Curiosity got the better of me and I pulled the old one out of the WEEE pile to see how it failed - the seals were fine, but the bottom stub of the plastic water level window had gone brittle and broke.

 

I hate ten quid kettles because the are usually low-wattage cack that takes forever to boil.

Just had my operation date through, two weeks time! Well that's my summer holiday cancelled then. Now shitting myself because its suddenly become real, I might not be able to work in my industry again after this. On the plus side I can enjoy the sunshine whilst recuperating and try and ignore the cars that need fixing. Can't see any point on starting on them before the op as I won't be able to drive for a few months afterwards. Now need to see if I can borrow a wheelchair so i can attend the Citroen national in July.

Why are those of you who are in technical roles not just putting your laptops to sleep/hibernation, then running updates/reboots at an opportune time?

I do it twice a day, and never have an issue with it not coming out of sleep, nor running updates at an inopportune moment.

I put mine to sleep, all the time - hardly ever shut it down.. But then I don't run Windows. Still really enjoying KDE Neon, it flows very nicely.

Yep, that's exactly the issue we've got. There's no fence between us and next door, so when we're all at home there are three cars side-by-side (we have two spaces and he has one, as a predecessor paved over a front lawn on our house) - and only my neighbour is able to get out. If he leaves first in the morning then we're all good because my wife can then put on full lock and swing across his space - but he works shifts so that isn't always the case.

 

I was prepared to forgive, because of the previous owner just having one Honda Jazz and two big parking bays to play with so it probably wasn't an issue before, until I saw them using my land in order to gain enough manoeuvring space to get onto theirs!

I used to be a serial Linux-licker and was a particular fan of KDE under Ubuntu or Linux Mint, but went back to Windows when I got my new laptop as I couldn't get it running properly on the video hardware. I imagine someone has sorted that by now, and now the "new" laptop is two years old Linux would probably run perfectly. General impressions: Linux is easier to use, more nicely designed and rarely requires you to interact with it in order to keep it working. Windows 10 is... much better than Windows used to be, but still not as good as Linux.

I move house a lot (not through my choice, because I've always rented, but finally bought so I hope this will be the last time) and it is only the motor insurance industry that has the bare-faced cheek to pull this shit.

I work shifts so park on the hill to avoid waking people up if I have to leave at 4:30am.

Someone from two cul de sacs over had a pop at me for it a couple of months back. Dropped in that 'you never know what might happen to a car parked on the main road...'

 

He was politely informed that my taxed, tested and insured car will be parked where it is for the immediate future, and it was extra politely emphasised that I know him and where he lives, and that if anything happens to said car, he'll be getting a visit at 3am by four cunts in balaclavas.

Fucking spineless scum cunts... They think they can get away with weaselly bullshit but have spent a lifetime honing passive aggression to the point that they forget that some people aren't passive.
