Just leave it - if they haven't got the courtesy to get back to you on the sale they probably won't bother getting back to your e-mail either.  Unfortunately buying\selling cars seems to be an excuse to treat other human beings with a contempt that you would never dream of in any other scenario (or maybe they would)

Saturday afternoon I receive a email regarding my FiL's Seat that is still for sale,is it still for sale can i come to look at it?

I return a email arrange a viewing for 11am Sunday, this is then changed to 12.30 13.15 still no one so home I go 13.30 a phone call I'm looking at the car.

I ring FiL and walk back round only the next street, all 3 of us meet at the same time, pleasantry's past,he works for Nissan drives a 67plate Qashqai, this is for his wife.

looks round the car really likes it wants to come back with his wife later that day.Returns at 18.00 they take the car for a 30+ miles test drive with both driving both like the car. Yeah we would like it but we have no cash here for a deposit I come back.

That was Sunday, nothing complete radio silence.

So do I email him asking whats happening or ring him or just leave it as a time waster?

Call him and ask the clown for petrol money.

Time waster

30 mile test drive? I didn’t even get that when buying a brand new car!

I was allowed about 3 miles for a test drive.

I took the motability demo Skoda a good 20 odd mile on various roads. But yes he sounds like a time waster. Guess alarm bells rang when he first messed about.

Who goes to buy a car with no fucking money! I've had this before with people, if you want it you'll have money in your hand for a deposit.

If he was serious he’d have bought and indeed left a deposit. Just block the prick, he’s probably took a long drive to see what those cars are like in general as he hasn’t got the money to buy one.

Keep his number though and do an internet search on it once a week. Soon as he sells something, return the favour.

Imagine if the fella had used the test drive to go and commit an offence or two...?

It's a 2 or 3 grand car; it's paid for in cash and taken away there and then or its not sold

They just had a bit of a programme on about the Moon and it being a bit bigger. All very nice but all the measurements were in sodding metric....

I don't understand metric at all. What's wrong with just saying both measurements?

Everything this week seems to have gone to shit.

- Had a face off with some twat at a petrol station whilst trying to get more fucking petrol for a car I was delivering.

- Got caught going home in a van that was trackered, now my agency want to have a "word" with me about this (which probably means a "disciplinary" despite me apparently being "self-employed")

- Got a stonechip on the windscreen of a hire car I'm using.

- Plus I've got a load on my mind now regarding bills/Visa for wife etc...

- Feel ill now, massive headache and stomach not feeling great either.

Sigh...

I think really need a change of job. Oddly enough, the money has been a bit better than usual so far.

Cos it's a fooking mouthful. I don't see why the scientific community has to pander to coffin dodgers oldies who won't move with the times.

Because imperial measurements just don't make sense. We've got to ditch the silly system completely at some point. Irritating that the Americans still hold on out on the damn thing.

It's a telly programme not some in depth scientific study and imperial measurements don't make sense?

They are all extensions of relatable things from the time they were made and now. Yeah some are a bit strange but no more than some made up thing like metric. Some blokes said X=meter doesn't mean we all know what that means as we're not all scientists.

I've converted it for you: The moon outside my office is approximately 1 and a half inches or about thirty eight millimetres in diameter from what I can see. So much power from such a small object...

My eldest son brought his car for me to have a look at yesterday afternoon with a noisy exhaust, its a Peugeot 206 1.4, and sure enough its blowing where the pipe enters the rear box, its broken completely. We have a look on the ECP website to see if he can get one before closing and they have 2 variations listed - for cars with a manivertor or cars without (yeah I had to google it as well). We decide his car has one and ECP have one of each in stock so he goes along to buy one ( a reasonable £36 with discount) but to make sure he has the correct one.

He goes down and he spends about 20 mins there with the staff cross check car year chassis number and make a phone call and send him away with a tailpipe and rear silencer for a .........Toyota Yaris.

I went around to fit it last night (easy job) and took one look at it and could see straight away it was wrong, my lad didn't have a clue even with a sticker on it saying Yaris and a part number not matching the invoice

whats wrong with understanding both systems

I managed it and I am a right leathery old goat

I didn't say there was a problem. As far as I know schools only teach metric now anyway.

The point was. It's a telly programme it tells me the distance and stuff in kilometres etc, can't they say both I'm sure no one will be alarmed, harassed or distressed if they did.

Anyway why the jump to defend metric like it's the only way? Is this another subject like politics and religion we can't talk about? :-)

Because youngsters are thick & can't use proper measurements. Imperial is much easier to use and I had teachers trying to force that frogshit on me at school.

I'm a carpenter we still do an interesting mix of metric and imperial.

Anyway come Brexit we will be throwing off our metric shackles and going back to feet and inches, pounds, ounces and proper tons!

it is dead easy

long distances miles

shorter distances cm and metres

really short distances thou of an inch

except for height which is feet and inches

liquid measurement depends on whatever I can lay my hands on, fluid oz are quite useful as are imp gallons. no idea how many pints are in a litre. no reason to know

ML and litres are quite useful for making up 2 stroke mix

etc etc

Anyone fancy welding a new rear arch (or should that be arches) onto my Rover? I have a feeling one of them will disintegrate in a small breeze...
