The grumpy thread

Been off today so I popped out in the car on a weekday, very rare for me. Apart from the usual van and truck drivers tailgating and using their phones which is all par for the course I can't believe how frantic people need to hare around Southend nowadays.

I was on a dual carriageway, I'm in the right lane and a newish white fiesta with some wanky private plate on my NS.  I indicate to come in to the NS lane so I can turn left up ahead, anyway i kept indicating but this silly cow maintained her speed just behind me.... I cant really speed up to lose her.....all the time my NS indicator is on and i try to move across but she just sits there.... . eventually I had to move across, which obviously led to her waving her arms around like I had shot her entire family through the head!

I mean FFS, who are these generation of people who obviously went to the wanky MeMyselfMeMeMe school of motoring?

The is hardly an ounce of courtesy among drivers now.

I lost count of how many cunts like that I encountered the last few days (I went from Aberdeen to Newcastle and back).

Even worse are the ones who toddle along at 60mph on a 70mph dual carriageway, so I pull out to overtake them, then just as I'm nearly finished overtaking, they go and speed up and sit just off my rear quarter! Twats!

Landcruiser let me down.

Bloody blew a stop/tail bulb, then noticed one of the number plate bulbs was out, two of the four self tappers the heads had rusted so had to drill the sods out and put new ones in, bulbs were blackened so 2 new ones.

I reckon nearly all the bulbs are originals @16 years (this Jap stuffs shit*), both front sidelights looked a bit dim so swapped them at the same time, those two were blackened as well.

However all that lot took me about 30 minutes all in, it takes longer than that to find half the bulbs on some modern shit.

Which reminds me, i've got the worlds most expensive dash bulb to fit, only place to get one was Toyota itself @ £5, lots of smalley ones on the bay but never seen one as small as this, but can't be arsed cos i'm bloody knackered for some reason, maybe its the weather, the dogs have been asleep as well most of the day since thismornings run.

Fuck! Bet that woke you up!

Is that the only damage? I expect the engine lost it's oil pretty quick.

i wont know whether it fecked the engine until i put a sump on and fill with oil, ii should be getting the sump tomorrow so fingers crossed, the first i knew of oil loss is when the oil light came on and i knocked the engine off

That cracked sumps sad to see, especially after the work you've recently done on the engine

That reminds me of my tina days and I couldn't actually tell you how many sumps I went through,

Would these be any use?

If i could solder for toffee and had the eyes of a bloody 16 year old maybe yes..well actually a 8 or 9 year old cos me mate Anthony put a blow pipe dart in me right eye when i was 10 and i spent 3 months in Bishops Stortford hospital, where i fell in undying love with Nurse Barker, 1964/5 so its highly possible the lovely Nurse Barker has departed this world, if she's still kicking about i have no doubt she's still a lovely lady.

Anyway, the bulb i had to order specially is one of the standard type of dash bulb one might find on any decent car, the bulb sealed into a small holder which is twist fit and you never have to touch the bulb, but its one of 5 or 6 that light depending on the postion of the auto gearlever and its about a half the size of a normal small dash warning light tiny bulb, naturally the one in D blew, so i removed that and put the L one into the D slot cos Mr T hadn't one in stock.

That reminds me, had me first ongoing argument with some auxilliary whilst at BS, she insisted The Saint's car was an Aston Martin, silly old bugger.

I've noticed this lots since I now can only go 56, people just sit at 53.5 just to piss me off, then when I pull out to pass they wake up and leave me looking like a twat pulling back in

Fingers crossed for you. It'd be shit if it's done more damage, especially after the work you've put in already.

I had some cunt like that today, I actually pulled out to let him on at a sliproad, then wanted to immediately get back in for the next exit and the prick wouldn't let me back in! Cheeky twat

And at the weekend some utter thundercunt on a motorbike riding literally 2 feet off my bumper, approaching a set of lights...I was half hoping they'd change so I could slam on and watch the twat spread eagle across my rear window.

I would then have upload the video to ukidiotdrivers or whatever it's called, but they'd probably conclude the motorbike was in the right, because they're a bunch of morons who wouldn't know who was at fault if they stood up and kicked them in the bollocks

Plus I have a stinking cold which has come on full force today, which I caught because some other cunt decided to come into work with it and infect everyone within a 20ft radius, so my usually sort fuse for the people above is actually trimmed shorter than ever.

Fucking vectra!

Clutch pedal in the floor, won't come up despite rigourous pumping and profanity.

Fingers crossed i can bleed the the bugger up tomorrow and it's not a leaking pipe/fucked cylinder.

I've come home in an 06 corolla auto, not a bad steer really but not really me.

Is it a concentric slave cylinder on the vectras? If so good luck, if it's borked it's a gearbox out job

Posted

Apparently, the limit on the Stourbridge "ring road" is not 40.  I'll be watching the post for a couple of weeks, then...

It had a clutch kit, dmf, slave 6k ago.

I'm hoping something is just loose or leaking. Knowing my shit luck it's terminal in some way, kicker is i'd just put £50 of diesel in it, now i've had to stick a tenner in the toyo-yo.

I had to stop using cruise for this reason - whatever speed you set it to - 55-95, as you close on people, they speed up so you can't pass 'em, so you tuck in behind and then they slow right down, so you pull out to pass rather than taligate them, they speed up again - and I'm not even speed limited - that must be 10x worse.

DavenotEd, it wasn't ever 40 was it? I can't remember a time when it was anything other than 30 anyway.

HTH, Louise. Xx

I only know of that one camera by the merc(?) dealership/back of Wilkos, hopefully you were in a slower flow of traffic or the film's run out or something :/

Good luck.

Try this in a lorry. Pull out to overtake and they leave you there like a twat. As a bonus motorists then try to undertake you as they think you're a complete moron sat in lane 2 for no reason. Repeat forever.

This also very much applies to 2CVs. People HATE being overtaken by them.

I was in Stourbridge this morning. Here's a rule that I also put to Victoria Coren-Mitchell when she wrongly assumed a road was 40 and got busted by the feds. 40mph zones are very rare, so never make the assumption that a road could be one. She didn't reply.

I wish we did here what they do in France - ensure there is a speed limit sign before the camera. There was a section somewhere I drove today (not Stourbridge, think it was Dudley) where I was struggling to see any repeater signs, so followed my own rule. It was a 40! However, no kittens died from me being a bit slow.

My grumps is for the shitty B&B I stayed in last night. A rather fine country house, ruined by sheer incompetence. No actual staff, just a key box. The details of which had not been emailed to me, because I booked on a weekend. I called the emergency number and got given the wrong code. Then there was a blocked toilet. Then half the bulbs didn't work. Then, this morning, none of the bulbs worked because the power failed. There was no answer on the emergency number. Bloody hopeless.

Posted

It's easy to find a 40 limit, just look for a main road that should be NSL.

The four lane uphill bit just before the bp garage? bad luck.

No, the wide bit going past Worcester Street.  My own stupid fault for not paying attention.

I got done twice by different camera vans last week for 35 in a 30. I am now the bumbling idiot that will do 27 in a 30 and if folk don't like it I'll go down even further!

Posted

Was it a van? There's not a fixed one there is there? I know there's one just further back, it's a bit close to have one there too...?

Fingers crossed.

Posted

.... for 35 in a 30.

Bit harsh! Not that I do it, but I thought you were sort of ok up to about 10% plus 2mph. Hope you get one speed awareness course, at least.

Posted

Driving vans was always like that, especially round Oswestry where it's roundabout after roundabout. You'd overtake someone doing 45, they'd get behind you at the next roundabout then overtake as you'd be slower accelerating. Then they'd get to 45mph and stay there so you'd overtake and it all started again. That's why I'd speed up and drive in the middle of the road where possible.

Today's grump is thinking it couldn't be too bad if I biked it to work. Last three miles I got drenched and the weather is even worse now, fingers crossed it's nicer early afternoon.

AnthonyG had said "There's a bit of rusty staining there" when I lifted the bonnet on the 850 at Cannock.

I investigated.

Hole in the inner wing.
