Me and WIFE_CMS are trying for kids and the only rule I've stipulated is that we don't name the child after a vehicle. It is surprising how many names that rules out.

As an aside I've had a mate since preschool (waaaaay back in 1989 - I've known him longer than my wife has been alive) called Shane and I know more Alsatians used to guard scrapyards with that name than I do people.

Vauxhall is a good name, no issues with that at all

Have you tried the mybuilder type websites? Because it's rated it's slightly easier to weed out the shite hawks.

Didn't think of that, I've just stuck the job on mybuilder.

I guess I just sit back and wait for hundreds of people to desperately fight over the job?

Don't expect to get a good builder/plumber or tiler for at least 3 months, down here everyone who is any good is booked up until July at least with some booked to September......

Only one girls name - Ailsa. Surprised when we were trying I managed to get that past S.W.M.B.O

I've contacted 8 plasterers to do my kitchen over the last 2 weeks. Not a single one has called me back or turned up to give me a quote.

I WANT TO PAY YOU MONEY IN EXCHANGE FOR THE SERVICES THAT YOU ADVERTISE. WHY ARE YOU MAKING THIS SUCH HARD WORK??

At this rate I'm going to have to skim the whole thing with filler, guide coat and DA sand it flat like you would the side of a car. It worked for the bathroom although we're still finding dust from it a year later.

Apparently this is a petrol powered car with a V8 engine in. However I have no idea where the engine is supposed to be in that mess!

Yes, it's actually quite good. We got our bathroom done that way. Had 3-4 people give prices then we gave one the job.

The upsold us on a few thing but to be fair they where right enough with what we spent extra on.

Saying that we paid 600 quid to have a fence put up with those pre-fab fence panels. It was a few weeks later I realised over half the panels had been fitted upside down.

Saying that, 4 years later and it's still all there.

I wouldn't trust all these trusted trader type sites to weed out the crap. As about the only thing you have to do to prove you are a trusted trader is pay them a shed load of money to be on their sites. Word of mouth is the best way to find someone but it does seem that there is a lack of tradesmen that actually want to do any work.

The mybuilder and the like at least have ratings. I'm not saying it's infallible (see upside down fence) but it's better than calling someone out the phone book.

Checkatrade verify reviews by calling customers and i think they also do some kind of additional vetting

Went to my bodyshop for an estimate for getting spoiler and skirts fitted to my A6.

Body man laughed at quality and berated me for buying fibreglass items.

He said he could do the job but it would be a ball ache and could cost me about £500.

Bollocks to that.Ebay beckons for said parts.

Regarding tradesmen there is a reason that the UK has lots of migrant workers - they want to work, unlike much of the indigenous UK population.

We needed a plumber to sort a new bath out ( taps onto side etc)!went on some sort of checkatrademynbuilder bollocks and had a reply in minutes from a guy called Zoltan who came round the next day, did the job perfectly for, half what anyone else wanted and then offered to tile the complete bathroom for £100.

I doubt he's a qualified tradesman , but he doesn't fuck about and wants to earn money, just like the odd job men of old.

One of my neighbour's is having a bathroom refurbish by a bloke who's 65 plate Transporter has got 20" rims and who keeps disappearing to other jobs, probably charging more an hour than Zoltan did for a day. Be interesting to see if it looks any better.

Ailsa would have got my vote but we'd have no doubt ended up with something stupid the Carina or Cedric. Or Kia. Or 340 Variomatic Campbell.

I stipulated no short forms of names, nothing in the then current top ten (be it GRO (Sco), ONS (Eng), CSO (Irl)(because too many Ollies and Jacks)). And a couple of other rules, but the eldest's name falls foul of the vehicle rule (unintentionally) - ALEXANDER PLAXTON

I'm sure you could sort me out with a couple of name plates for his bedroom door though.

I have checked the skirts I bought for the audi as I was thinking that bodyman just did'nt want to fit them.

They are utter pish - two piece items that are stepped where they meet. They are not even a close fit to the sill.

I have emailed seller - if no joy there will be a dispute being registered.

Ebay is now nothing more than a place to sell utter shite.

SCREWFIX.

When there is a queue out the door, let your staff have a smoke break outside. Tool station are just as bad. After 10 minutes of staring at the ceiling I drove to the nearest merchant BSG buildbase and bought the screws there (5 X 60 spax screwpervs) for 40p less. I picked screws off shelf, walked upto the counter, no postcode bollocks, cash down, screws in palm. The spax are quiet a bit dearer, but you never get a miscast screw head, or shagged thread, so there worth the money in "right first time" usage.

I buy from Toolstation via mail order 'cos their workshop aerosols are cheap, delivery is free over £10 and you don't have to deal with their counter staff - WIN.

When it rains it bloody pours. I'm potentially looking at loosing a load of money on the XM, got an email yesterday saying that my insurance is up soon and they're wanting 500 quid, dealer phoned today to say they've got the parts I ordered and again today the exhaust holed... I IS GRUMPY.

I think my Blingo is magnetic to morons.

Last year, a twat in a Motability Seat Altea changed lanes into the offside front wing; ramming his stick down his overused gob was briefly yet seriously considered.  A few weeks later, a knob in a Vectra did the same thing into the driver's door, then pissed off; unfortunately for him, he did it in full view of a police inspector in his area car who did a U-ey and went after him.  Words were had.

This morning, getting onto the M6 at gate 11, an utter cockwomble in a Europcar hire van decided he was in the wrong lane but that the laws of physics did not apply.  BANG and off he went down the slip road.  My pointing at the dash cam and the entrance to Hilton Park services encouraged him to reconsider his decision.  There followed a full and frank exchange, mainly involving scatology and gynaecology.

Amazingly, the only damage to the Blingo was a small scratch on the sliding door and another small dent on the front wing.  Not worth the hassle, so I invited him to FRO.

The rest of the day was fine  ^_^

Next door keep leaving the older, 'now out of favour 'cos the have another dog' out in the rain.

We lift up the fence panel, bring him in the house, dry him and so on but am getting sick of it. He's lovely too and friendly.

We know of a 16yr lab given up to a rescue because "didnt want it any more "......

That's just heartless.

Some people really don't deserve the air they're wasting..

The video of this old boy just stood in his rescue kennel, staring at the door with a look of despair has had a good few members of the rescue in tears........

He's been rehomed already with someone to who'll give him a good quality of life

The family involved have received loads of "helpful advice" about that decision,as you can imagine.......

Stuff like this gets me angry, I'd forget to pop him back over and tell them he's yours now, good on you for helping him out though

My mate at work has just lost her GSD, she took it on at six months after the idiots who had her from a pup could no longer cope as they hasn't bothered with any training. Within six months he was the best dog you could imagine. No doubt she will do the same again, pick up the pieces where some other dickhead hasn't bothered. Our Bassett x whippet came to us at six months as her first owners were going to put her to sleep as they were going on holiday, she was the most amazing dog you could imagine and had fourteen brilliant years with us. Why can't the knob heads stick to drinking special brew and watching shite on their sky boxes?
