Mike made a beautifully accurate repair patch for me to weld to a car today, the welding went a treat, the end result is really nice.  Mike didn't think, and I didn't think to tell him, to cover up the Princess where it might get grinder sparks on the glass.  Just as well I have a spare front passenger door glass isn't it?  Especially now that the original one is completely fucked.

My SD1 was covered in this but 99% of it came off with a stanley knife blade scraped over it.

Ouch.. a very common thing with the 159 I'm afraid :(

2006 Alfa 159 in today lovely looking car but the front subframe rotted through at less than 8 years. Surprise surprise Alfa's 8 year corrosion warrenty doesn't cover the subframe. £840 plus the vat for a new frame not a nice bill for my customer who has just bought it privately.

I had an 06 Brera, gorgeous thing, but that was starting to dissolve at the tender age of 5.

You'd have thought they would have learnt by now...

Yesterday I watched the newfangled Bad Sex - Furry Toad film. What a piece of utter horseshit.

Did those table-cloth clad Sheilas get paid for sitting around doing nothing except maintaining a bored expression?

Plot - shit.

Scripting - shit

Acting - shit.

Stunt choreography - shit.

Drawing of characters - shit.

Old Holden Chod content - shit.

Logical continuity - shit.

Worst of all, the guy they casted as Max is about as dull as a portaloo.

If you like Mad Max, or car action films in general, avoid this flick like the clap.

Your mistake was going to see a film made after 1986.

So... what did you think of it...?  ;)

I was thinking the Stockcar F1 guys put on a better show in a B-consolation.

£37 to advertise my car on Autotrader! Seeing as how 98.3% of that website is cars for £495 that actually turn out to be £495 per week on finance, they might just have to FRO.

Ebay classified adverts are all you need. £15 for a month, pretty good value really

I have no problem with cyclists, provided they obey the rules of the road (hint: that includes not riding on non-marked pavements and roaring up behind pedestrians expecting them to leap out of the way at your mere presence).

Sadly, there seems to be an increasing number of bolshy, militant pushbikers who think they can do whatever they like because they have the environmental moral high ground. No, you can't ride three abreast on a busy road and slow the entire flow of traffic down. No, I am not prepared to sit behind you on an NSL road because you refuse to move over. I will give you as much room as I can but I'm not doing that if you scream abuse at me and expect to be treated like royality because you're 'saving the planet.'

You know, because it's selfish.

One thing I like about driving the Oldsmobile is that it's LHD so I can see exactly how close I am to objects on my nearside.  This doesn't mean that I would do anything like a full kickdown overtake six inches from a trio of Lycra Clad Cunts riding three abreast on a NSL A-road, of course.  No no no.

In a vaguely related grump (because it's about cycling), the battery that runs the gears on my pushbike ran out today on the way home, leaving me stuck in first gear all the way back.  Pedalling like a tit and only managing 8mph gets old quite quickly.

I've ordered a two-pack of new batteries off eBay for a fiver.  I'm hoping that the battery in the bike was already quite old and that the new ones will last more than four days each, or the bike's going to end up costing more to run than the scooter.

Battery powered gears? WTaF?

I didn't know Vauxhall made bikes.

It's actually one of Shimano's bright ideas - it's called the Nexus Auto D.  I made a post about it in the bikeshite thread on the open forum.

Cor, never heard of that at all!!! I have my impressed face on.

I've seen a mechanical automatic derailleur on eBay before. It claims to work with any 5 or 6 speed freewheel. I think I'll buy one next time.

I want to try Di2 gearing but it's not cheap at the moment.

eBay/gumtwunt grump - not because I've had to deal with any massive twats, but because I haven't been able to deal with any twats whatsoever.

I'm usually pretty on the ball with my car pricing (checking Wisebuyers, eBay listings, completed auctions etc) but after a month on ebay classifieds at £1k, and regular reposting of gumtree ads with ever-decreasing prices, I just do not seem to be able to shift my boring.

It's a low mileage 1.4 206 with MOT til Feb - I (naively) assumed this would be prime student/post-grad runabout material, and somewhere around £900 - £1k would be a decent price (under the book price at least for a decent private sale).

Not a sniff until the weekend, when after the millionth gumtree ad, a nice couple came to have a look over it. Test drive, positive comments, a brief conversation about 'best price' ("I wouldn't want less than £850 mate", "yeah.. that seems fair") - and then absolutely sod all since.

How am I so far off the mark?

Students are home for the summer, it's holiday season and low scrap prices all won't be helping.

What year/reg is it?

I guess that's true to an extent, although I'm surprised there aren't more people even tempted to make an offer. I expected new drivers to be priced out by the fact it's 1400cc (when I was learning, it was usually a "1.3 or lower" mantra from the insurers) but thought there'd be more city-runabout people looking

It's an '04 plate, 206 1.4s (a/c) on 68k, 3 door.

Lycra-clad, endorsement-draped, belligerent, arrogant types are getting to be as much of a bunch of wankers as the horse-riding set IMO. Both a bunch of cunts. I don't generally wish physical harm on other people but if people like that were on fire and I had a glass of water, I would glass them

I'm having a similar problem.  I wouldn't've thought that £350 for a 2003 diesel Mondeo with 7 months' test and all new injectors was far off the mark, even with the battery drain issue and the DMF getting noisy.  So far I've had offers of £100 and £150, which I didn't bother to respond to.  Similarly with the Forester - £750 for a JDM turbo with a year's test is quite cheap in my book, but no luck trying to sell it yet - apart from one bloke who wanted it for spares for his and asked how low I could go on price - although he did at least have the decency to admit that it was a "silly question".

Mrs Crab has a 54-plate 1.4 Fiesta Zetec 5-dr that she bought outright from a Ford main dealer about 18 months ago for FOUR FLIPPIN GRAND. She would like an older, more interesting (i.e. shite) car but I think she’ll struggle to get more than about 1200 quid for this Fiesta despite it being in really nice condition. If you can’t get 900 quid for your 206 that doesn’t bode well. I think I will advise her to just keep the Fiesta cos it is a straightforward reliable motor in good nick and the alternative is to accept 70% depreciation in 18 months which no normal person should have to endure.

I saw a few idiots on sports bikes on the way back from sf . Makes me cringe when you see some of the overtaking .

I am more than aware of the 'Think Bike' campaign but I do think there should be a 'Don't be a twat' campaign' aimed at Sunday bikers.

The speed that some of these bikes belt past my place is shocking, in a built up 30mph road (that leads to a country lane) some of them have to be hitting 50/60MPH easy.

You want to see them in Cyprus!  Helmet-free wheelies on main roads... racing against quads... you name it.  It's probably the same all around the Med, to be fair, because the Alpha urge is so strong in the young males.

Anyway, mememememememememememe...

I slept really badly last night, which is to say, hardly at all.  Trying to get myself into gear at work I missed something off an order and got seriously jumped-on for it, although the customer wasn't worried; she hadn't run out.  So I came home in rather less than a perfect mood, took the dog out, made a cuppa and went to bed, a custom I've established in recent weeks that seems to work quite well usually.  Still couldn't sleep.

So now I'm grumpy on just about all levels.  Pissed off with work, pissed off with myself for making a stupid mistake, pissed off with not being able to sleep.

It's all me me me round here...

Starting to loose my heart with the Merc, I love the car but I can't keep trying to afford to keep it in rude health. I've got a new wife and life to start and the Merc just seems intent on imploding itself.

So far, the viscous fan has yet again been replaced by Merc specialist but it still roars, even worse now.

Bonnet and hinges damaged by bodger.

Wing and underneath have been bent out of shape.

Needs tracking.

It is beggining to corrode badly in certain places.

Front cross member will probably need changing, as well as the rear subframe.

It seems everytime I try to make it better, it manages to get worse. Seriously thinking of flogging it, and getting the KV6 back on the road until I can actually afford something else.

I really wanted this car to last me a very long time. I am very glad I bought it though, its such a great looking car.

Other gump news - Had a heated exchanged of threats the other day with some twat neighbour. The guy is a fucking weasel, had I not had certain 'commitments' I'd have happily chucked my clenched fist in the vicinity of his face.

I'll be out of here in a few weeks.

1/ Drain transmission fluid from Merc, replace with fresh, new fluid of correct grade for the vehicle.

2/ Wait until night time and then, using a torch if necessary, write swear words on weasely neighbours lawn with old, dirty Merc transmission fluid. This will kill his grass and leave the words there for some time. Words starting with "C" are especially good for this

3/ When confronted by weasely neighbour, deny all knowledge of it.

Can't help with work, sorry mate

Bonnet and hinges damaged by bodger. Meh, so what. Just drive the thing. As long as it doesn't fall off, who cares.

Wing and underneath have been bent out of shape. Meh, so it's not perfect, so what.

Needs tracking.Kwik Fat. 20 quid. Done.

It is beggining to corrode badly in certain places.Spray with oil / jenolite / jelly / lard. Worry about it later.

Front cross member will probably need changing, as well as the rear subframe. Will probably need changing, Later. Not now. Drive it, enjoy it, don't worry.

Don't worry, be happy, eat lard, drive the car. If you make it perfect some fucker will wreck it for you. Just use it and enjoy it for what it is. If you'd wanted a new one, you'd have bought a new one.

Sold a laptop to a friend for her son. Because the old one he had, had been dropped and he'd smashed the hinge and knackered the hard drive.

My laptop was cheaper than repairing the old one, and twelvety times as fast so she bought that.

Four weeks later, it's back in my house. Broken hinge and a hard drive failure. "I only installed a game on it". Yeah yeah.

Why can't some people look after stuff? She'll probably pay for the repairs though which is kind of even more annoying - I'll stick an SSD in it this time, but the back cab and hinge is £40 for one of these, because metal. So that's £80 because her kid doesn't see the value of stuff.

They're the same round here. My road is a 30mph limit and has a school and elderly peoples housing on it, so it's 30mph for a reason! It's a fairly long road, but there's some bell end that's going so fast he has to start braking about half way down the road for the junction at the end. At a rough guess I'd imagine his speed would be illegal on a motorway let alone an urban street!

There's also some c**t who's got an illegal non silenced exhaust! they rag the bike up the road every night at about midnight. It's so loud it wakes me up even with the windows closed.

I'm tempted to string a piece of cheese wire across the road or wait up for the twats and push a trolley full of bricks out into the road in front of them!

I really don't have a problem with bikers and always try to do well by them, giving plenty of room, let them pass etc but there's a small minority of them who are total pricks!

People don't, sadly.  We've turned into a throwaway society, where literally everything is disposable and nothing is worth repairing/

I've been trying to cheer myself up trawling ebay for model cars.  1/43 scale are going at prices I want to pay for 1/18; 1/18 are going for a tank of petrol or more!  Fuck.  Not like I've got room for any more anyway, but you know...

i think alot of kids are like this, they don't care about anything cos mammy and daddy will buy them what ever their little hearts want, no questions asked.

and when they smash it/ brake it,/loose it then their daft parents will just replace it no questions asked.

there are loads of spoilt and pig ignorant little twats mooning about, i seriously wonder what the future for these little darlings will be like...
