I'm not at shire fest as I should be at work. I'm not at work because I'm in hospital. I'm in hospital because someone took the liberty of beating me up on the way home from a night out on Tuesday.

Just had two metal plates put in my jaw and will be on a diet of baby food for the next six weeks.

Marvellous

Jeez, sorry to hear that mate.

to the chap above who has been beaten up, i'm sorry to hear about that.

it is a shitty thing to have happen.

and a grump from me, i need to take the Jaguar for  its MOT in the morning.

i'm hoping that it will go straight through, i don't think there is anything it will fail on, but until it comes off that ramp you never know for sure....

I had the crap beaten out of me when I had just turned 18. Cunts knocked me unconscious. Not pleasant. I wish you a speedy recovery and I hope the cops nail the bastards

i got given a beating by a couple of good ol' boys about 10 years ago.

coppers got 'em, courts gave them community service......

we've got one of those socket thing with a chain on it for removing oil filters, we find it is just the thing for stubborn filters.

and easier, if less satisfying than batting a screwdriver through one.

Yous wanna hear a fucking grumpy old man story?

Well, I iz givin yers a grumpy ye olde mane storye.

Because if you think you have reasons to be grumpy old men, I call bollox.

Because you have no haunted Rover, which is possessed by an evil spirit, like I have. Because you don't.

Said Rover decided to puke another fucking gearbox. Which is to be expected from a haunted Rover.

Frankly, I think it's because said gearbox is a Borg Warner 65. Which is newfangled tosh. The Borg Warner 35 is older, hence better.

Be it as it may, I got meserf another BW65, 20 quid, no bloody hassle. But nobody knows whether it works (ran when parked kinda shit).

Said BW65 was put into the haunted Rover on Wednesday.

Garagiste who was entrusted with the job reported job jobbed, now 8 litres of ATF-G are required to fill it with blood, but he doesnae ave any.

So I iz trying to get two motherfucking gallons of ATF-G.

It wouldn't be a haunted Rover if that would be easy.

I call my local motor factor. No dice.

I call another motor factor. No dice.

I call Andrew Page. No dice, but told me he can have it by today morning 9am.

I drive there today morning 9am, no ATF-G.

I visit more motor factors around here, nobody has ATF-G.

I call Mr Conelrad to check in his parts of the woods.

Mr Conelrad obtains two gallons of ATF-G and brings it to the garage today 3pm afternoon.

As of now, I have no word from the garage whether they filled said ATF-G into the gearbox and whether it works or not.

I just presume it doesn't.

The morale.

Apart from having a haunted Rover, this fucking collapse of the fucking Soivet Union is a fucking lie.

This fucking Soviet Union didn't collapse, it fucking expanded. It now reaches all the way to California.

Otherwise it wouldn't be a fucking problem to get fucking ATF-G.

I'm living with a haunted Rover in the middle of the fucking Soviet Union.

Fuck you very much!

Junkman - my local DIY place have been doing ATF-G at £1.74 a litre, so I bought a load despite not owning a Ford just because it was cheap - didn't realise the Borg Warners used it too, so cheers for that - will keep it in case the Volvo ever needs a top-up.

I was sat here feeing pissed off that I didn't manage to get to Shitefest again this year, but then Volksy's post kind of put that into perspective...

I just got one of those from Dad, changing oil on the Reliant Sunday.

I needed a load of type F ATF for the Mercury's Ford C6 auto box, couldn't find any anywhere near me! Got some mail ordered from Opie Oils in the end, but even that only came in little 1 litre top up bottles! I needed enough to pretty much fill the gearbox.

What's ATF-G? I thought all proper cars took Dexron 2, red stuff, quite thin, smells a bit funky.

Rant, fucking rattly centre box on the Range Rover is not, it is the offside cat, fuckedy fuck.

Ubiquitos used downpipes and cats on evilbay have mysteriously dissapeared when I need one.

Looking at spending Greece GDP on a stainless system because I found that mild steel these days is just too fucking mild.

Still at least it will be shiny

Edited to add get well soon volksy

No CCTV or witnesses. I woke up in a pool of blood. Luckily for me they didn't want my trusty old non-smart Nokia phone so I managed to call my mate for help.

Been in hospital since Tuesday, hopefully will be discharged today with engineering works all fitted to my gob.

Bloody hell Volksy that's harsh.

Were you a random victim or have you upset the pikeys?

Wishing you a speedy recovery - green flag style.

On the plus side, you will always have a fun time at airports now :-)

Selfish fucking twat.

I am becoming a right grumpy git these days...

I had to go and collect some fancy photo frame for the other half today from one of these fancy boutique gift shop places, anyway I collected and paid for the item in cash and the girl gave me my penny change 'Thanks' 'Oh can I have a receipt please?'

'No' she says, 'but Its ok because its come from us'  Errr what? I just want a receipt please? (at this point I realise I don't think she rung the transaction through the till)

She tells me I can only have a receipt if I pay by card i.e. the little tear off receipt from the card machine. 'Sorry, no receipt for cash payments'

What annoyed me was she got arsey with me for asking for a receipt, so sod them I came home and submitted a suspected tax evasion form to the HMRC. I cannot see any other reason for the refusal of a receipt for paying by cash to a reputable business.

Yeah I know, grumpy git victor meldrew get a life etc etc...

Shite parts. The Kia has developed a hesitation due to bad MAF, a new Siemens VDO MAF is £400. Yeah, uhhh. No.

Ebay job £45.90. Still brutal but required. Has a 12 month warranty though. Went to fit the fucker today having dismantled practically the entire top half of the engine to get to it and plugged it in, then the fucking plug/sensor bit just falls off. Removed it again to see that it had been glued on with about 3 molecules of glue so my ape-like strength was too much for it. Complete piece of shit.

I CBA sending it back and waiting 2 weeks for a replacement so I've wobbed it up with no more nails and will be as gentle as I can when re-fitting it next time. What a shower of shit. Fucker had better work when it gets put back together.

I bet the £400 jobs are no better made either.

You need to ring them and complain then ask if you need to bring it back with the receipt. ........

Stanky, cheapo MAF sensors just aren't worth it I'm afraid. My Alfa had an ebay special fitted before I bought it and it caused lots of different faults that threw all diagnostic attempts in the wrong direction. So frustrating.

If it's a Bosch sensor, take the number off the actual part and google it. You'll probably find it's fitted in lots of different housings for other cars.

2nd hand genuine is your best bet.

I've kept and cleaned the old one, so if all else fails I'll re-fit that but it a right PITA to do and it runs like shite too. While I was at it I tightened the accelerator cable so there wasn't 3 inches of slack to take up at the pedal before anything happened, and clean the TB which was 110% rank. I suspect these two issues weren't helping matters either so I feel a bit better about it.

Its just such a shit part - the amount of hassle when they go wrong they cause you think they'd build them well in the first place. What did carburettor'd cars do about the varying ambient temperatures? Or did it not matter?

That's appalling. Are the police involved?

'No receipt for cash transactions' I'm quite sure that's completely illegal. I hope the HMRC lot give them some grief.
