For the love of God WHY are people (you can probably guess where) still banging pictures of a newspaper headline up ('Christmas banned, it offends Muslims') then fucking going on and on about 'ppl wot don't blong hear' etc.

READ IT PROPERLY YOU FUCKING KNOBHEADS.

I don't know who Liam is, he just seems intent on ruffling feathers and as you can see from the responses in the thread, everything is basically telling him to FRO.  I try my best to be diplomatic about it.  I don't know him, don't know what his beef is particularly, so I just ignore him.

There's been on drug taking that I'm aware of, it's pretty much the antithesis of the boomboomchavboxburnout that happens at Meadowhall and some people are apparently a bit bitter about that.  I have no idea why.  Besides, Meadow Farm gets all the best cars like Estelles, Dedras, Mirafioris, Datsuns and BL wonderment.

The guy who came up with "Winterval" was on the radio last year. It wasn't called Christmas because it was a programme of events covering the whole of winter. I've a feeling it happened several years before the papers hijacked it for their "PC gone mad" angle.

The problem with these made up stories is that they can come true. Stupid people in positions of authority believe them and get it into their heads that they should do something similar in their organisation.

Facebook is great for finding out which of your friends you perhaps shouldn't be friends with. Great one doing the rounds at the moment saying "share this picture of Islamic women in face veils if you find it offensive." WTF? How can a bit of mono-coloured cloth be offensive? I'm not a fan of them, nor the way some religions seem to treat women like second class citizens, but offensive? No. Racism? Yes, I do find that offensive.

While I'm at it, and linked to the great Winterval myth is the world of Health and Safety bollocks. This is completely made up stuff where health and safety is blamed. It's all utter rubbish. Risk assess it, write it down as a potential hazard and just do it anyway! A few years back, this was the approach we took to bonfires at car meets (not helped by our public liability insurance refusing to cover them. We just took out a separate policy just for the fire, made sure there was an element of safety - ie some sober people - and had a great time).

I just had a guy comment on my bmw advert on RR claiming I was on drugs! The strange thing is I am. Well, night nurse.

The ones with fucking giraffes as their profile pictures have had my finger hovering over the "unfriend" button recently.

I'm torn on whether to delete FB or not. The only reason I bother going on there now is to look at the various old car groups and the closed groups for my university course. It is a load of shit though.

The problem with CouponPamphlet is that too many people take it far too seriously. Yes it's a great way to keep in touch with distant mates and relatives but so is the telephone. Facebook should therefore be treated as a bit of fun. That Giraffe thing was fucking annoying though.

This isn't aimed at anyone I know from here who's also on there by the way.

Edited to add;

Bitstrips. That's fucking annoying too.

I never go on Facebook despite being hounded by various members of my family on both sides. Its a load of bollocks, full of racists/anti-religious types and zealots. I can't be arsed. As my faith lies within aforementioned religion, I like to think I know a little more about than most of your keyboard warriors on Facebook.

Many people, sadly, cannot make the distinction between religion and culture, which are bith very different things. I do know that the ill treatment of women in certain "religions" is actually down to culture, not religion. It is unfortunate that these people are often represented in our wonderful media by thier religions rather than as induvidual.

Bitstrips is really annoying now, I have about a dozen friends who seem to live out their lives in cartoon form...

Everything is a load of shit, Dicky, not just FarceBook. It's all part of getting older, 'responsibility', and not being a serial-shagging teenager any more.

Dammit.

Bitstrips can go shoot itself in its cunt. Always made by self pitying fucking twats in the case of my 'friends'.

Luckily I dive straight into a group ir chat, rarely read my wall.

Ah, bitstrips that's what that is. There doesn't seem to be any options for a fat guy driving broken down in a Rover SD1 so I'll leave it.

Religion and culture are pretty intertwined, more so in some countries than others. You make a good point though. We only have to go back a few centuries to find that in England doctors were not actually allowed to examine women which I concede is more culture than religion. I guess some parts of the world are still lagging behind...

If the hondaaaa could make its way to bucks/berks/oxon I could run it round the M25 for you if you then run me back to marlow/stokenchurch Dave? Google maps suggests 65 miles from where I'm sat now to upminster train station.

To all those in a position to assist, remember what Dave has done for all of us.

All the best Dave

Shit, really sorry to hear about your horrible day and only wish I was in a position to give practical assistance. Other, more local, shiters may well be able to help - as has been said, we all owe you a favour.

I hate those panic attacks - I haven't had one for years and then I had one a month ago when I woke up. Worst one was during a job interview - I hadn't had one for ages and thought, 'wouldn't it be crazy if I had a panic attack now?' and then it appeared! Stupid brain.

I can control them well now, and they disappear after about three seconds.

Maybe for some people/other religions Dolly. But not so in mine. Our culture has been adjusted to fit around our religion but some cultures refuse change their culture to fit in with their chosen religion. I did hang around some fellow Muslim guys when I was younger, I quickly found out that our cultures were so different it was unbelievable. In fact, I found that they were dedicated to their cultures and old ways much more so than religion. Religion seemed secondary to them. It is such a shame that when they do wrong, their religious background is noted quite profusely to an extent where people think their motives were religious or their 'religion told them to do it'

It must be said that my background is where the religion originated, so people are more susceptible to actually interpreting it correctly because they understand it better.

Idiotic bickering rent my closed University group asunder. About eight months after the blow up, two of the people concerned still aren't on speaking terms.

It's still used by people from my course but at the moment it serves as an outlet for my mate whinging about the world of work, or lack thereof.

2. Unit Related Grump : The roof is leaking around the burner's flue. Any thoughts on what I could use to seal it?

And yeah, the beams of our unit are made from 'disappeared' telegraph poles. #shitehawks

Have you got a length of door seal rubber or even windscreen seal?  If you can get it in the gap betwixt tin and flue it should sit snug on the tin plate and not be too detrimentally effected by the heat of the flue.  In theory at least.  This may be a stupid idea conceived of a lack of sleep on my part, or it could be absolute genius.  Let me know, either way.

Posted

You can get proper actual flue seal things made for the job, either aly ones in two halves that you clamp round (if you can't get to slip anything over the top of the flue) or high temp rubber ones that you slide over.

If you get a clamp round aly one, use silicon sealer to stick it to the roof - it's surprisingly heat resistant.

Pretend it's a Landrover snorkel from a smokey old clunker and put a 'One life, live it' sticker around the gap?

An alternative solution is KOS flue cement (or similar). Comes in a squirty tube thing like bathroom sealer that you put in one of those gun things. I used some about a fortnight ago on the burner "exhaust" at my  new gaff. I wasn't hopeful, as it came out of the tube very watery, but it dries like concrete. I think it was about 7 quid of eBay. I'll get a pic of the tube later. EDIT: below.

Dave..maybe u should consider Betablockers..it lowers your heart rate...therefore keeps your adrenaline level down which then abates your anxiety level...worked for me after the gnarly PTSD-epilepsy overload I had in Melbourne...but i ceased them only due to being in Highland isolation...plus now im on anti-epileptic Tegratol..which seems to be a bit of a peace keeper!...keep strong buddy...we're all behind u mate.

Good advice from Rab there; hope that situation improves, Dave.

Re. Jon's flue... Gaffer tape? Hammer a smaller roof over it?

Fuck it.i'm going to park in disabled spaces.nobody else seems to care so why should I? Seems to be the norm to be a tosspot and there is never any comeback on the culprits so why bother worrying about it?
