The grumpy thread

AR, that's a truly awful bit of news you've had, and as much as I'm aware that typed words can come across as insincere, I am truly sorry.

Nah, life is OK on the whole. It never changes, you have to just accept stuff and move on to make it all worthwhile. Letting go of stuff is one life lesson I wish i'd learned years ago.

Sorry for the cringeworthy life coaching bollox.

Let go?

This is a zero sum game! You don't have to let go of anything, it'll be gone automatically.

What used to piss me off no end is that until then a shitload of corporations and banks see me as nothing more than a cash machine just because I live. Since there is sod all I can do about that, I decided to just don't give a shit anymore. It's just money. It doesn't have anything to do with me, or life, or the universe, or 42, or some fucking thing.

Losing a good friend is a horrible, horrible thing, sorry for your loss Jim. :(

As for this money/life/happiness bollox I try not to think about it too much, I'm SCOTTISH goddammit, not some butthurt Yank that runs crying to a therapist every time things get a bit shit.
What I have decided is that given that I'm one of that group of 10% or so of the world's richest and healthiest people (as we all are in this country) I really shouldn't whine if my PC craps up or THE MAN sends me a bill when you see the hell that is life for some of the poor souls we share the planet with....

I'm by no means a YOLO-tard, but there's far too many simple pleasures in life to worry about all that shit.

Other opinions are, of course, available, and may be proven to be correct.

Sorry to hear of your loss, Jim.

It's horrible when that happens, a mate of mine (who would have been 43 today) died when he was 41. Brain haemorrhage, at home. His mum found him at the top of the stairs. That was a shock, bugger was only a couple of months older than me and I'd only seen him the night before.

Are you having trouble finding work because you're a massive bellend? Just a thought like.

Does the mood need raising? No? Ok, we'll keep it down then.

I've got a dental infection. The left side of my face has come up like a football.

I went to the local walk-in centre today, filled the form in. The receptionist said, while trying to read her paper, 'Oh, I don't think we'll be able to do anything for you'. The doctor came out and basically fucked me off out of it.

They won't do anything about dental infections. If the infection was in my ear, about an inch or two further up, they would give me anti biotics.

Crazy or what??? They gave me an out of hours number to ring, but they just suggested I go to The Royal London hospital in Whitechapel. I've got to be back at work by half four, so no chance.

I can see a visit to A&E coming up.

I had an abcess in my gum a number of yrs ago which flared up on a weekend whilst I was working away from home . I went to local pharmacy and asked for amoxcillin (pencillin type anti-biotic) which they refused to sell me. I pleaded my case, asked what wrong I could do with it etc. and eventually was sold some. I'm not sure if this was legal or not.

Amen to that, our thoughts are with you.

Don't think I've ever posted a grump in this thread, but here goes. Valid grump:

I've designed my life for minimal contact with any corporation, but the following two can FOAD:

Orange / EE

BT / Open Reach

We're without land-line or internet for TWO FUCKING WEEKS !11!!!!!1111

No, I haven't done a Betaboy-style-post-Shitefest-hosting-vanishing-act. Don't s'pose I've been missed much...

The phone line to our (remote) place was knocked down (perhaps maliciously), and can anyone be bothered to fix it?

Can they buggery.

My whole life is organised online, via my laptop at home.

I'm self-employed and all comms are by email. WTF am I supposed to do?!

There's hardly blanket wifi coverage in the Yorkshire Dales, and I can't lug a computer around anyway.

EVERY DAY since the line came down we have battled through multiple call centres,

for actual hours, trying different numbers, running up massive mobile bills. And what good has it done? Sweet FA.

The first day, they came and tied up the loose trailing wires, and haven't been back since.

Until today. On my way home I passed a BT van, they've only been and taken down the other (working) phone line which supplied the mobile phone mast at our place.

So the whole area is now without mobile coverage either. Brilliant. Nice move.

No landline, no interwebz, no mobile signal. WHAT THE F... sorry, don't normally swear this much, but what can I do?

I'd climb the bloody poles myself if they weren't on the land owned by our antagonistic and violent neigbour

(who may be responsible for pulling the line down in the first place) I'd be shot as soon as I climbed the wall. True.

How can I write this? In crappy old MSNotepad, Friday night, I'll take the computer to a client's place and hopefully I can sneak onto AS and post it.

What a carry-on.

HELP!

I was wondering where you were Joe.......as I was going to try punting the Audi onto you

Sounds like the usual nightmare with any 'service' provider these days. Hope it gets sorted out soon

Parcelforce: here's an idea. I'll list an item on ebay, take extra photos when someone asks a question about it, and it sells for a fair amount, say £64. I'll then very carefully pack it and write 'FRAGILE - GLASS' on the box. Then I'll take it to the post office and hand over £12 and said package. Then at some point between there and the buyer's house you SMASH IT ALL TO SHIT. Deal?

BRILLIANT.

Bought this on eBay1383026_185282054993373_1619688169_n.jpg

If thats 9 foot Im a dutchman.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Caravan-Porch-Awning-/331036246644?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&nma=true&si=I8M7g0mKfR8ZphVOnVK2YkQj2Eg%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

Listing says size is aprx 9feet by 6 feet - good-oh, will be big enough to leave up over winter with lads pup tent in side for occasional use.

Drove to the Wirral (va Toxteth, Speke and the John Lennon Airport, and then 2 journeys through the Kingsway tunnel at £1.60 a pop) picked it up - got it up to the van today and discoverd it is in fact 6 foot by 4 foot and not big enough to swing a cat in that doesnt mind getting a bad case of concussion.

Ebay fuckwittery means that simple communication with the seller now instantly starts a bloody conflict process - so I describe the problem and ask the seller to pick it up as Im not driving all the way back to the Wirral again, Seller responds by asking in what way os it not as described?????! WTF?

can all the rich coonts bidding on small shopping cars please stop till we buy a nice one.........

Joe - I very much feel for you. BT Openfarce are an absolute shower of shit. They took out a phone line in our village a few months ago with no warning. Claimed we'd all been informed in advance. No we hadn't! Me and two neighbours utterly shafted with our work-from-home plans for that day. Fortunately, the local hotel was still online, so I was able to toddle off down there, just getting angry every time I realised I needed to check a fact in a book back home.

We lost our EE mast a short while later. Pretty much everyone in the local area had to complain before they did anything about it. "It's online according to our systems." O RLY?!

Just in case everyone was starting to think that living in the country is always nice. We also consider 3Mbps as pretty bloody fast.

Hire a transit Luton from the local respectable* van hire place for house removals.

Got in, the range till empty said 19 miles, cheers lads. Put 25 quid in as I haven't got far to move takes it to 109 miles on the range till empty, do around 60 miles in the day says it has 40 miles left so basically it did 60 odd miles on 25 quid WTF this tallys with the trip which I zeroed when I got in, didn't even rag it as it had all our valuables* in the back and over 60mph the wheel shook more than our 18 year old washing machine.

Tdci greatness at work there.

TDCi's are the weigh to go.

My almost two year old Galaxy S2 battery has finally crapped out. When plugged into the mains, it says it is charging, but remains at 0% and then shuts down immediately, once I remove teh powa.

Unlike a certain other smart phone, the battery can at least be changed without the need of a soldering iron on this STONKING PHONE.

I've just done a 12 hour shift. Absolutely knackered, but I thought 'I can't take this for much longer'. It's got worse, so I went straight to A&E from work. 'They'll prescribe some antibiotics'. Did they bollocks. I've got to go back after 10 today. WTF is going on?

And 2 years for a battery is pretty crap isn't it? My K800i one still works after 8 years!

A prospective buyer actually turned up to look at the 944! Yay! Then he said he could only offer £350 as it had a few dents so would need replacement panels. Sigh.

Posted

I can understand why people just scrap cars or take low WBAC offers rather than go through the hassle of dealing with the general public

Posted

unless you have a solid trustworthy buyer lined up its easier to just scrap cars that are worth less than say, £500. The amount of penniless cripples they attract just isn't worth the bother. My AX ha just been blown out by TWO buyers. Can't afford it apparently.

I've just replaced the battery in my S2 AGAIN! Good job they are only a few quid from the bay. I bought the gold high capacity one this time and had so far lasted a day and a night.

A cheap fix for a phone that was heading for the recycling envelope as it was bloody useless before.

I've had 22 months out of mine, so can't complain. As with everything I own, the phone has been treat like dog muck.

I shall look into this high capacity battery of which you speak.

Marty, you should have said. I live fairly close and work on The Wirral, so could have collected for you. If you find anything else in the area give me a shout.

Billy - it was worth the trip to see the PURPLE wheelie bins they have in Liverpool - I mean Purple - how wild is that??

Anyway, asked the bloke to come and pick it up as Im not pissing about driving to the Wirral again to sort out something that isnt my cock up - he has 7 days before the bay will refund me anyway!

You can at least self-medicate for pain-killers.  My dentist advised me to take Paracetmol and Ibuprofen on an alternating 2 hour cycle whilst waiting for the anti-biotics to kick in on my abscess.  Worked a treat
