The grumpy thread

I need one of those, but for a Samsung Galaxy. My new Samsung touch-screen phone thingy that FATHA_Sterling insisted I have has developed a small but deep crack near the corner of the screen. The phone is hardly is a few weeks old yet insists on falling out of my pocket and dropping to the floor in the most spectacular fashion.

Touch screens make me grumpy.  Before too much longer, everything will be touch screen and I'll end up going on a rampage through Pissy World with a sledgehammer touching all the screens.

My S3 has cracked around the volume button which is annoying. It also has a dent in the case where I hurled it on the deck at work when the MOT tester failed my 460 on the handbrake when he said he wouldn't. Argh.

Probably a sensitive issue Wat, but you always seem grumpy now!

Think I met you once a while back. You seemed perfectly pleasant back then! Maybe I did something to annoy you!

About as useful as one, too. My mate, he had an iPhone and the screen filled with water. Then the iDiesel pump corrupted all his files and then exploded.

My mate once dropped his iPhone in the toilet. Strangely the screen filled with water. iPhones eh? Crap.

I tried to use an iPhone once as all the controls were in blue I couldn't read them.

I then drove a Mk4 Golf into a massive toilet and that won me Best Video Game Intro 1999 from C&VG. TREU STORY.

Watanabe in 'grumpy thread' shock...

I'd be more chirpy if I could get a half decent job during the week.

:-)

Me too..

Have almost given up on getting even a slightly decent job. And I am a qualified electrician.

I reckon Wat's issue is directly related to mongtards.  It's like he's got a mongtard infestation in his area for some reason.

ITunes.  I don't own an Apple device for a start but fancy some alternative player for when I'm outside breaking things or pretending to sort the garden.

I remembered I did have an Ipod years ago and had some credit on my account via some cards that we had at work sometimes with returned Ipods.

Spent an AGE trying to get onto said account, doesn't help I've only had two full time email addresses - the 1st from starting with a 14K modem and my current one the past couple of years.

To cut short a long annoying time typing said email addresses over and over I now have access to an account.  Shame it's not mine...

Mongs now sounds like a disease, the sort of thing you contract from trying to sell a vehicle on the internet.

My grumbles of the day;-

Signs that say "ROAD WORKS" when it obviously doesn't.

Signs that say "USE BOTH LANES" my car isn't that wide to use both!

Signs that say "KEEP APART TWO CHEVRONS"  What do they expect? Lay on the road and hold two apart?

Have a nice day........yeuch

I usually feel a bit awkward about 'death' posts here as they tend to kill the mood somewhat, but a friend here in the village died this morning of a heart attack. Of an age, but still too young. It's knocked the stuffing out of me somewhat. She was a lovely woman.

Don't bother with condolences/sympathy as there are people affected by this much more than I am, but had to get it off my chest. Weekend excitement will return, but doesn't feel appropriate right now.

I bloody hate it when someone reports a death on here or whatever and then loads of people who don't even know the 'announcer' and who certainly have absolutely no idea who the deceased is all chip in with their e-condolances, its flipping ridiculous.

Why not, if doing so helps you? I'm sorry to hear of your friend's untimely passing. Others are perfectly entitled to a misanthropic worldview, even if it's often better left hidden.

The thing is, it just stops you in your tracks, and you never really get taught what to do in these circumstances. I think some people get a bit carried away with the 'oh, I'd better say condolences or something' even when they haven't a clue about what's going on really. I'm afraid I never do that. I just take note and make a mental note to avoid any banter for a few days with that person. Anyway, that was my post, the world moves on and now someone should post something nice and trivial again - which is what this thread is about really! Anger at silliness.

It's only a problem when I come in to whine about knocking my Pepsi onto the carpet and find the person before me just lost their entire family when their house collapsed down a disused mineshaft.

"If only I'd taken the other route home" "What if I'd left earlier?" "I could have done... something"

But there's no good taunting yourself with ifs and buts, it's too late to post about spilling Pepsi on the carpet.

Aye. I probably shouldn't have mentioned it at all really.

Well I must admit I did when my father died as for some reason it seemed at thetime a good way of trying to deal with it. I did not do it to get attention but the comments were nice and did help to be honest. However, I can see how it might kill the mood but then again this is the grumpy thread and death of someone you know is going to make you grumpy, sorry if that sounds flippant not sure how to express it really. Anyway condolensces DW.

Not sure if this classes as a grump, although it made me grumpy. I will try and keep it concise!

I went to  Wolverhampton today to look at a brown Allegro. After doing the seven mile journey from where I work in Oldbury to Wolverhampton, a journey that took one hour and five minutes I met the guy and followed him to his unit. I was by now in a pretty bad mood after having been stuck in traffic for so long.

His workshop is a lovely old Victorian factory on the Penn side of Wolverhampton. He had inside three Ford Thames Vans, a Moggy Minor and Mini (classic) and a Wolseley Six, a manual version which apparently is super rare. All were in various states of undress!

I was a bit meh about viewing a brown Allegro but being local and as I would still like one I though why not. I assumed from the advert (Lord knows why) that it was a 1300 but it turned out to be a 1979 series 3, 1.5L. I was purturbed by the S registration number plate, however the guy explained that it had been used in a film to look like an earlier one, bourne out by the series 2 grille in the boot. He has apparently applied for the V5.

He has the car advertised on Gumtree as spares or repairs at £300 and on viewing it I was beginning to like it, especially being the 1500. He said that the twin carbs (didn't think the L model would have them) leaked a bit but otherwise it drove well. It is blocked in so I couldn't verify it, I couldn't even get the door open due to the shell over a Spitfire next to it. He said it needed welding around the boot and rear nearside but apart from that was solid.

This is when it got strange he started saying he wasn't sure about selling it as he felt he was giving it away and that he had to pay rent on the unit blah, blah, blah, especially as I would not be able to take delivery of it until early October.

Then he started saying that he had been offered money for the engine and box by a mini owner and he was seriously considering it and weighing in the shell. I know it is possible to fit the E series into a Mini but I didn't think it was that popular. He asked if I would be interested in just the shell minus engine and box, I told him know.

He was sounding very grumpy and slightly depressed about it saying he did not want to give it away and that even though he didn't want to break it, he might because of the money!

We left it as me saying I would think about it and ring him in one week. On his part he agreed with that and says that he may feel differently in a week about the whole situation but he would not accept less than £300. He may accept this offer for the engine and box.

I suspect he wants me to offer more than £300, I think he is trying some kind of emotional blackmail. I know Allegro prices are slowly rising but a non mot'd and taxed brown series 3 needing some welding and fettling is not worth more.

The plus points are:

It looks solid bodywise and interior

It is a 1500 which is the one I would really like

Bad points are:

Needs a bit of welding although not much

As I did not get the chance to hear it, it is a bit of an unknown quantity

I may offer £300 next week and if he says know then I will just walk away. I am not going to pay more thats for sure!

I understand that point of view entirely.

On the other hand, I am perfectly capable of giving a shit about someone I haven't met in person but have only chatted to online. If a shiter posts to say that they've been shaken up by someone dying, I can't see the problem with showing said shiter a spot if sympathy/empathy.

Then we can move on and talk about cars. The clutch on my Minx is a fuggin nightmare.

Fair point, but a tad harsh perhaps?

An Internet 'family' is still a family of sorts surely?

Ok, we don't know each other as such, but we do converse daily.

For some people it may be the only 'family' or support they have...

Anyway.. Enough of that eh?

Yo Organist, the guy sounds like a bit of a chump, I suspect he's one of these who loves his old car fleet a bit too much and ends up not knowing his arse from his elbow. No-one arses about fitting 1500 E-series engines into Minis these days, they might have done back in 1981 but nowadays why would you? in 2013 you'd fit a VTEC or whatever if you wanted loads of grief and a fast mini with a funny-shaped front end. So ignore that story, he's either made it up or has met someone with a load of pie-in-the-sky ideas that will never come to fruition outside their own mind.

I say stick to your guns with the £300, or maybe offer him a token extra £25 to allow him to sell you the car without appearing to 'lose face' over his hopeless bargaining skills.

I think seeing 30 tenners in your hand (or 300 pound coins in a lidl carrier bag) in front of him may change his mind.

Thanks for the input guys. I will sleep on it for a few days!

I don't know whether to believe the story or not, if it was a 1275cc A series I would believe it!
