The BBC have put a complaint in to Youtube about my "The private life of the Ford Cortina" video and made me delete it and complete some copyright school thing. Fuckers.

Glad I downloaded it off your youtube site.

When someone owns a car, why do they get the urge to dispose of the oem mats, handbook, wallet, etc. it's as if they just get in the car and launch the lot out of the window on the motorway, and then get ill fitting mats with blue/red trim that slide around the floor. And STOP CHOPPING UP THE STEREO WIRING LOOM!!!!! Argh

Hope you're better soon Dave.

Gumtree grump.  Put the Vectra on there today for £800.  Got a message this evening: "Will you except [sic] 400 for the vectra".

I was going to compose a suitably sarcastic Wat-on-the-Volvo-forum-style reply, but I've decided I really can't be arsed.

Simply reply with:

Hi. I'm afriad I can't accept £400, but for you I will do a special price of £900.

Regards,

i just reply with "would you?" lol if someone gives an offer within reasonable distance of the ask price, then i will take the time to reply,as at least it shows willing and they arent taking the piss, otherwise dont waste your time replying.

This should be made a capital offense. Also disposing off of the original car jack, wheel brace, and tool kit.

Car broke down last Saturday, engine stopped at 70mph on the A14 and wouldn't restart.  Luckily I managed to coast into a service area with the last bit of momentum.  I spent 20 minutes looking at it and then called the AA, it turned out that the 6 week old rotor arm was dodgy.  A new cap and arm was sourced and I was on my way 90 minutes later.

At this juncture I'd suggest you take up alcohol, Jon. Not the ten pound fucking fifty pee for three bottles of Spanish piss we had last night, but a few pints of strong lager, vodka and strong lager mixed with vodka.

I somehow managed to miss the opportunity to snap some Orange Opel Chevette with what looked like an early Kadette front on it. The 4 people inside were sunglasses wearing part-time rockers by the looks of it.

It usually satisfies my balance of lazy/angry to just respond with "no".

Even though I had the time and the petrol in the car, I didn't take the Princess to the BMC/BL day and I have no reasonable excuse for this.  I am a moron.

The past two weeks have been mostly dreadful. This may end up provoking stock WAT solution #7789 - drive Volvo to unit and turn phone off.

I dread to think what solution #7790 is... 'go into murderous rampage' ?

Fully agreed that when things are shite, one's shite cars provide a wonderful refuge ! Hope things improve soon, Wat.

My Missus,in spite of being told that i dont want any rubbish etc in van, decided on saturday to put a load of garden rubbish in back of Estima so it could be taken down to tip today..

I cant even get in it,it makes me heave. It stinks.

Its also infested with spiders, snails and god knows what else.

So it aint going anywhere.

Rubbish is back on garden but van is impossible to get in & i suspect stench has permeated into upholstery etc.

If it has it will be going down scrappie as i wont be using it again.

Laptop has died  Still it was a $200 jobbie from cambodia but seems the scottish cold has finished it off!

My laptop was overheating last night. I solved* this by turning it off, then putting my mouth over the fan outlet and blowing. Success! I blew my laptop and it loved me for it. (I really need to pull the sodding thing apart and clear out the fan properly. Sadly, laptop fans are the automotive equivalent of a heater matrix. It's the very first thing they seem to put in).

My crappy old laptop bought in Thailand in 2007 still works ok. I keep it on a little platform with USB-powered cooling fans, as is common practice over there. Seems to do the job. About once a year I flip it over and give it a go with the brush attachment on the vacuum.

3-stud Peugeot brakes - despite all components on the wife's 106 being replaced in the last 20000 miles or so, and me telling her not to go easy on them to keep everything moving and the discs clean, the left caliper's seized so the outside pad has worn almost to the metal and the inner one's hardly used while the disc is yet again, fucked.     Haven't checked the other side yet.

I've heard that cheap refurbed calipers can be a bit shit on PSA stuff - a friend who does a lot of miles in his BX has had issues with calipers failing again within a year.

If only it worked on her mgf.

Piggy calipers are a bleedin nuisance. On all my 405s with rear discs I kept/keep replacing the back ones, just for them to fail the next MoT test.

Funnily enough, the cars don't seem to need rear brakes at all. I drove one (unknowingly) with non-op rear brakes for a while and didn't notice a fuggin difference. It looks like the rear brakes are so underworked, that they just seize after a while.

460 has failed the MOT at a 'lenient' testing station. I really wanted to take it up the hill tommorrow at Prescott. Tried everything to get it through and that test was its last chance before I went on holiday.

The Birkenhead crew fell in to help me out and found an MOT station that would be sympathetic without dropping themselves i the shit. Unfortunately Mr.Lenient was off and another bloke tested it. AAAAAAAAAAARGH.

The calipers have failed again. It's had six previous fails on these bloody calipers because they're utterly shite. Make that a seventh. Plus a CV boot and a pinhole in the back box. Hardly life threatening. It's booked in at JPs in Macclesfield for a full stainless system on the 9th and this just complicates things.

Two months of shit luck shows no signs of abating.

For the last few years I've been driving past a tidy, low mileage E reg Metro near me. The paint was faded, but it only had 15k on the clock, no rust and the original SMAC dealer plates etc. Sadly it was always parked on the street in a not particularly great area with no steering lock, and looking on Gumtree today it appears the inevitable has happened :(

Yes, looks like some little prick has taken it for a joyride, and made a right mess of it in the process. Looks like it will need a steering lock and cowling, door handle, door mirrors and a bit of paintwork. Does anyone fancy it as a project? It's still taxed and MoT'd and with a bit of TLC, would be a great little car and it would be a terrible shame if it gets scrapped.

Wish I could save it myself but I can't afford to insure another car, have no need for it and no space to store it as an 'off road' project. I think this lack of respect for other people's property is disgusting :(

Back to the land of Eng tomorrow, not looking forward to it, in fact I feel a bit sick at the thought. But I guess what with a few positives that have happened here I've got something to look forward to, something to work towards.

Also, I've spotted a shed load of shite here including a mk1 Rover 800 fastback but never got the chance to pap them owing to circumstance. Aaaargh!

Finally found time to tinker with the XM today, for those not familiar with this examples particular issues, basically it has a problem where the suspension/steering and brakes would all fail for a few seconds every now and again, the power steering not working at all at the moment. The LHM tank was very low and was full of froth, indicating that tons of air was being sucked in somewhere. I topped up the LHM to the correct level, started it up to allow it to settle and started inspecting the main feed pipe to the pump, which immediately split as soon as any pressure was applied to it. The high pressure pump began gulping in air and pressurising it into the system, the suspension collapsed and the LHM tank immediately shat it's contents all over the inlaws drive, boiling green froth and Vulcan blood pouring all over the place. Shit!!

Fortunately the Father in laws hose pipe was to hand and a piece cut out of it made a good emergency repair to the busted feed pipe, the frothing disappeared and everything now seems to be working correctly.

Has this mystery problem that has foxed a specialist for the last 11 months been fixed? I hope so!!

BTW, LHM cleans up easily from driveways using washing up liquid, water and a scrubbing brush.

Open plan offices, coupled with the whiney twat behind me talking constantly in his drivelly, jobsworth tones.  Fuck off knobhead!!

I've been off work for a week and had a great holiday, which makes coming back and sitting here like a caged animal all day feel even worse.

On the plus side, I have another shite purchase in my sights....Gotta be done as it'll cheer me up

Ah yes. I remember open plan offices. Dreadful places. I learnt to just ignore everything going on around me. Something I still often do even when working from home, much to the annoyance of my wife.

I'm getting better at zoning out stuff, but weirdly lots of noise can make this easier as everything just becomes white noise as opposed to just one twat lording it up over the quiet lads.

It's not that bad here really, unless the yanks are over. You won't believe the addition to the noise level as few as only two yanks manage to make.

Spending until 5am helping with a house move is not my idea of fun.  Wouldn't have taken so long if the procrastination meant we started the move before 7:30pm or if some actual packing had been done.  Ended up with me in the Princess, and brother and his best mate in the Beemer with a trailer on the back, all three of us packing, loading and unloading.  I'm just glad it was only about a 4 mile move, but it's the worst house move I've ever been involved with and I've done a few.

Oof that's a tough gig. And I thought I'd pushed it a bit far last night when I was up 'til 3am rescuing lost pages.

Not terribly serious but my car now has a ground clearance of about 2 inches at the front on account of the front undertray/sound deadening panel catching on a high kerb I'd parked against and pulling itself free at one side.

Makes all sorts of nice crunching/grinding noises on anything but a billiard table-smooth road surface. Which is all of them.

Flaps.

It really is a crying shame that we are not allowed to off certain individuals. It would make life so much more pleasant round where I live, plus it would free up some parking places. A win/win situation really.

A huge thanks to the fuckwit 2 houses away who delivers parcels for a living. Thank you for slamming the door to your fucked Pug 206 every single time you lob a parcel from your equally fucked VW Twhatever at stupid o'clock in the morning, thus waking everyone up within a 10 house radius.

We WILL have words. Fix your fucking car door!
