Do you live in Tesco? Is it your residential address and where you keep your vehicle at times?

No? well pay some fucking road tax then.

No sympathy at all, it’s not like it’s some hidden away bit of residential parking for flats or something.

Funny, now you mention it, one of the reasons Tesco have started bringing in Parking Eye could well be because local residents have been using it as a bit of a storage yard for their old rammel.

There was (quite a clean) BMW E32 parked down at one end for ages...

...but my favourite was this mega shonky Subaru Impreza in snoozeworthy 1.6 LX spec, which remained taxed and MOT'd but never seemed to move from year to year:

Quite agree, no-one should be dodging road tax!

back to the point, it might be worth a quick word at the customer service desk to let them know you think you overstayed due to the puncture, they can easily (if you ask them nicely) over rule a parking penalty. my mother has managed this in tescos, morrisons and aldis, not due to a puncture, just being hopeless at keeping an eye on the time :)

I turned into the car park just after 2pm (store receipt shows I was going through the checkout with two items at 2.14) and I had the wheel finally swapped and away by 4.50 - so fairly sure I didn't exceed the allotted three hours.

There's signs up stating that parking disputes can't be dealt with onsite, you need to phone a call centre!

I was confident up to that point but I'd just sit tight and wait and see if anything comes up.

Our local Tenpin Bowling centre is right next to a station car park which is far too small so they have a pretty strict parking camera system. My wife and I parked our 2 cars there when taking our son and his 5 or 6 friends bowling for his birthday party but I failed to notice the tiny sign which instructed all patrons to declare their cars parked in the car park when arriving at the reception desk. About 2 weeks later I got 2 letters saying I got a fine, £60 each or something. But I just went down to the bowling alley and was super-nice to the guy on duty there and it was all sorted out.

So it might still be worth a trip down to Tesco even if its just for a friendly chat to say you just want to understand how the system works and what you need to do next. They might help you with stuff like how you prove you had a flat tyre and such like. Tesco staff are usually very helpful.

Good luck!

When my son was coming up to 17, I got him a car a few months before his birthday. I thought we could use car parks for lessons before he was 17 and got a provisional , but found out for insurance and  licensing purposes, private ground with public access was the same as on road.

Yep, this is almost completely the case as defined in the Road Traffic Act (1988).

It has occasionally been challenged, but it's best to assume it's a public place. Here are some examples of it going either way:

Quote:

This is a matter of fact to be determined by the court. The following have been held to be "public places":

  • The car park of a pub; Vannet v Burns (1988)
  • A hotel driveway; Dunn v Keane (1976)
  • A multi-storey NCP car park; Bowman v DPP (1991)
  • A hospital car park; DPP v Greenwood (1997)
  • The car park of a car dealership; May v DPP (2005)
  • A field used for point-to-point racing; Collinson (1931)
  • A field used for parking at an agricultural show; Paterson v Ogilvey (1957)
  • A privately owned caravan site; DPP v Vivier (1991)
  • Freight immigration lanes at a dockyard; DPP v Coulman (1993)
  • A school playground; Rodger v Normand (1994)

The following have been held not to be "public places":

  • Privately owned land next to a private club; Pugh v Knipe (1972)
  • A community centre car park; Havell v DPP (1993)
  • A company car park used by staff and customers; Spence (1999)
  • An internal roadway at a University campus; Cowan v DPP (2013)

Dashcam's gone and croaked :(

Noticed it wasn't booting, just LED on. Reformatted the SD card and it worked... for a day. Now doing good brick that get's a bit warm impression.

Extra annoying 'cos I've got it hardwired for parking mode, and rear camera. So an afternoons pissing about to rip out and put a new one in unless I can just get a replacement front unit. (unlikely)

Fuxsake.

This is how a 'quick' lunchtime job of dropping off some broken laminate flooring at the dump and grabbing a few things from Tesco turns into an all-day saga.

IMG_20240919_1421023.jpg.fd45b9686ec9871e8b1a6114ceacacf6.jpg

Bet you there's a screw lodged in it; bloody staff at the dump can never be bothered sweeping up.

Turns out my breaker bar has a 17mm and 19mm reversible socket on the end, but the Corolla has 21mm wheelnuts.

Well well well. Who knew? Not me.

And there's no-one down the town who can sell me a 1/2" drive 21mm socket. The tool shop seems to have closed permanently. The motor factor doesn't have any 21mm sockets in stock (but did want to sell me another 17mm/19mm extending breaker bar, identical to the one I already have). Getting desperate now, neither Tesco or Argos had any 21mm sockets included in their cheapo tool sets.

So I'd the pleasure of a long walk home, uphill, on a rather warm day, to fetch my 1/2" sockets...

Can I get back down there again and swap the wheel over before Parking Eye reams my bank account for the crime of overstaying?

Place your bets now...

Just to tie this all off, the local tyre place managed to repair the punctured one with a plug for £15, and it seems to be holding air ok.

I also found out that the Parking Eye contract isn't up and running yet - this Tesco store is currently having a big refit that's to last another three months, and apparently the signage is the only thing that's been put up yet in the car park!

another rant about vacuum cleaners

as a cure for boredom i decided to vacuum my grandparents entire house for them, wall to wall deep pile carpets etc

they have some shark thing, quite new, but you have to swap hoses and doesn't have a proper lift off wand as far as i can tell

anyway

it seems to almost have 2 bins inside of it, and kept clogging itself up, literally must have clogged up 20 times or so

oh and blocked it's filter so i took it out

in the end i returned home and got my dyson DC07 and hammered the entire house, and didnt clog once

how come a moder cleaner clogs much much more easily and manages to be much harder and more awkward to switch between wand and upright mode than a cracking on 20 year old dyson that very rarely has it's filters cleaned

progress huh?

i hate to be a fanboy of dyson, but literally every other machine i used has something to moan about or feels a step backwards

Dyson have been taking the piss with the price of their new stuff, £600+ for a vacuum cleaner ffs!

The old stuff lasted well and was like Lego to repair with plenty of pattern parts on eBay well under half the price of Dyson parts.

I had a DC02 for 25 years before the motor final expired.

we've had 3, had a DC01 from the mid 90s until 2012 or so when that just fell apart, DC33 from then until last year when i blew it up and i bought a mint DC07 off marketplace to replace it which is the best one yet

the new stuff is naff, my ex had a DC75 and it was sooooooo easily clogged up

imo a second hand dyson is the best value vacuum cleaner you can buy, they seem worthless and really easy to pick up for less than £40

I love both Dyson and shark. Both are very lucrative for me 🤣 (he says with 8 jobs in various states littering the house...)

I have a (DC05??) that came out of Argos around 2005 that is like Trigger's broom. Not managed to properly kill it yet.
Kid bought a Shark 2/3 years back - fucking thing weighs about 50 kg and has so many bells and whistles to go wrong that it makes a Citroen C6 look like a 2CV in simplicity. I hate it (the Shark not the Citroens) - it's bulky, heavy and a fiddly fucker to use.
They 100% bought it because it has those bells and whistles, its what that generation does (iPhone 34 anybody?).
I do believe that you are in a proper growth industry :-)

I've worked in several homes that had Dysons, every one of them broken in some way or other.

One place was an animal rescue place, she had two, one for upstairs, one for downstairs, and a Miele for the stairs* and to follow the Dysons around to pick up cat and dog hair that the Dyson's ignored.  Client was in the process of suing Dyson on that point but died before anything came of it.

The Miele was excellent and when my vac died I bought a similar one.  Not cheap but sited me down to the ground.  Gave it to my daughter when she broke her chapshit vac.  She had it for a few years until her son let a bike fall over onto it and broke the floor tool.  She scrapped it as a floor tool was £40, replaced it with a cheapshit £60 vac that was never any good.

I had bought another Miele and still have it.  My floor tool became a bit crap and evaded my attempts to rectify it, bought a knock-off tool for a tenner that seems OK.  Still have the original turbo head.

Bought daughter another Miele that has withstood her attempts to destroy it. Two of her siblings also have them and are delighted with them.

*They hadn't worked out that the extension hose was housed in the handle.

Shirley being in Tesco car park & is private land & so nothing to do with them until driven out at worst not declared SORN.

I go down with a beaver tail or trailer  & photo it & go to court.

Someone parked a mini up at our church (with our agreement) and dvsa came in and put a clamp on it as it hadn"t been sorned, church is on a quiet cul de sac. Apparently if the gates are open it's fair game for them to come onto private property.

Firefox's recent update has broken private browsing mode. Any attempt to go on utube results in neverending cookie consent pages. I click 'fuck off' (they call it reject) and get presented with the consent page again. No amount of clicking fuck off works.

Only fix is to turn off private browsing.

Cnuts.

Does clicking accept work?  Any cookies will just be wiped when the tab is closed if you're in private browsing mode.

Will have to give it a try, never use it normally, no need.

I do run the browser cleaners on shutdown, followed by BleachBit, so nothing remains.

EEE dit.

Looks as though private browsing locks out the adblockers.  A couple of very brief ads, gone in the time it took me to turn the amplifier on.

May try the Brave and Chromium options to see what they do.

Nope, same thing irrespective of what is clicked. It runs fine in 'normal' mode.

Firefox are normally pretty good at fixing issues so we'll wait and see.

Bought everything for the Kia’s front suspension as it has a weak spring and very crusty shocks. Or so I thought.

Top mounts in the box are just the bearings and rubbers not the mounting plate for the car. No locknuts to fit the damper to the top plates.

And my compressor’s hooks are too short for the spring coils, so won’t grip it properly.

Arse.

I know of things being chucked out on the basis that the land was neither owned or maintained at public expense.

Seems it must be somewhat dependent on the system in question.

I just out of sheer curiosity tried it here and it worked fine.  Firefox last updated this morning according to the logs.  This is on a Linux host though, so no idea how different things might be with regards to the inner workings of the browser.  My curiosity didn't extend as far as rebooting into Windows and no doubt having to install a couple of dozen updates, to see if it was working as well.

Fucking Asda!

Ordered stuff online end of July for click & collect, never got the goods and was told my card would be refunded, fair enough.
That was the end of July and I'm still waiting for a refund. They're a near impossible company to get any sort of meaningful response from, I can't find an email address that gets answered, Faceache messages go unanswered, and I've waited over an hour more than once for the phone not to be answered.

I've accepted I've lost the money but any ideas how one might theoretically 'hurt' them to the tune of about £50? If I see one of their vans parked up I'm quite tempted just to tan the windscreen but they've probably got cameras in them...

Believe me, I've tried. I don't have all the information they need for the claim and of course I'm not going to get it from Asda.

Re-order but for delivery to your home. Then deny you’ve ever received anything. This time make sure you’ve got all the info for a credit card refund.

Alternatively, shop lifting to the same value.

Worth going to an in-store help desk and camp out until they get bored looking at you.
