In addition to the overall collapse of the healthcare system and the amount of work that entails, one of my subordinates just got stuck in a lift. XD

I honestly can't help but laugh at this point. XD

Also, it's probably gonna be a while until we can get her out because our electrician couldn't get the lift back up and we had to call for outside technicians. Funsies!

you should be able to manually wheel the lift to a floor from the lift room and get them out that way

thats what they did last time I got stuck in a lift LOL (and discovered there was indeed a secret basement floor)

She's been freed just now. I'm completely unqualified to mess with lifts, so I was only doing what our in-house electrician was telling me to do. Since our technical manager decided to get outside techs in I assume it was stuck pretty badly.

Colleague at work tested positive for Covid..I was with him the first two earlies..so now I have the wonderful honour of isolating for 2 weeks and "working from home" which in my line of work is not enjoyable.

Sausages the wonder dog update:

 

He's been to the specialist vet place and they've done some tests. He has some sort of kidney problem (curable or treatable) which he has to take medication for for a while, they've taken a biopsy of some nodules on his kidney (but don't think it's life threatening) and one or two other things that they aren't too concerned about.

He can't come home tonight as they couldn't  do anything to him until later than planned, so we're picking him up tomorrow afternoon.

our last visit to the vets , after finding the dog flopping around the floor having pissed itself etc

consisted of some email conformation of the address containing a google map that may as well been a chocolate kettle ..

but as I knew of the place , and it being near my work place I could just hit the road , and at 8 30 am on a Sunday  , with a dying dog in the back of the car I did that .

the engine growled all the way with some interesting speeds hit for the first time in its life ,  we arrived at the vets , with a dog that had glazed over .cue screams and tears ...

it was rushed inside , and some 3 hours later , did not make it , despite having a slight recovery

sorry about the dog , it was a nice one , by the way thats 800 notes ... chi ching !

I feel your pain. Our dog went off her food in February.Her normal vet had died ,so went to a new one. She was bloated with excess fluid,so the X ray didn't show much. She had about 3 litres of fluid drained out of her and another X ray, showing a big growth on her liver. So it was obvious that the end was near.But the vet wanted to do an ultrasound as well at €200 per body cavity.I refused. She perked up slightly,but two days later went rapidly downhill,one day after,put down.

TL:DR - pay out €450 ,get a dead dog,with the option of spending another €350 on top for some belt and braces confirmation that it's all up.

The month after my wife had a  private ultrasound - it was 25% cheaper than the quote for the dog 🤔

Yesterday an ex girlfriend kindly pointed out I am "only a 3 hour flight and 14 days quarantine away".

The vet stories reminded me of this old joke, apologies if not appropriate/too soon  :

 

A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest.

After a moment or two, the vet shook his head and sadly said, "I'm sorry, your duck, Cuddles, has passed away."

The distressed woman wailed, "Are you sure?" "Yes, I am sure. Your duck is dead," replied the vet..

"How can you be so sure?" she protested. "I mean you haven't done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something."

The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room. He returned a few minutes later with a black Labrador Retriever. As the duck's owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom. He then looked up at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head.

The vet patted the dog on the head and took it out of the room. A few minutes later he returned with a cat. The cat jumped on the table and also delicately sniffed the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled out of the room.

The vet looked at the woman and said, "I'm sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck." The vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman.. The duck's owner, still in shock, took the bill. "$150!" she cried, "$150 just to tell me my duck is dead!"

The vet shrugged, "I'm sorry. If you had just taken my word for it, the bill would have been $20, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan, it's now $150."

£53 to cancel a £230 insurance policy. I had three attempts at negotiating with them on the basis they insure another car for me, but no dice. 

I’ll make a bit of fuss with the FOS or whoever it is, as £53 seems disproportionate to cancel a policy - especially when changing to another car is £26.

It's not cheap to keep them going, but worth every penny if they make it. They casually mentioned today's treatment was 'probably going to be  £2,000-£2,500'

It certainly isn't, we plunged into chemo with our dog before having confirmation that the insurance would cover it, eventual bill was circa £10,000 mostly covered thankfully. We got an extra 18 months with the little beauty

Who really is a fucking dickhead. 

So he saw his 10 year old granddaughter last week.  An emergency as his daughter had to take another of her kids to A&E due to him running into a wall.  Having spent 4 hours with the three kids, it turns out that he found out on Thursday that the other Grandads brother had tested positive for C-19, and he was told that both spend alot of time together, and the granddaughter had spent 2 days with the other grandad. 

So knowing that there was a small possibility that transmission from brother to brother to granddaughter to him was possible, he decided not to cancel Sunday night tea with his mother as "she'd be disappointed".  So today the results are in for the other grandad. Yes he has a positive result. So today, his unsuspecting mother spent the day in the company of MikeRs wife. (Mike whose dog died on Sunday and who himself had a kidney removed in February due to cancer.) 

And dickhead waits til 5:30 pm to inform us that with the lockdown, it's probably not a great idea for her to come around on a weekend.  You know because well, they have his daughter and 4 kids in a social bubble, whilst each of the 4 kids is also visiting separate dad's and their families. 

So my wife's mental health has taken a dip.  Shes worried that her mother will now infect me. Who must be at risk due to a heart attack in June.  

She's suggesting I move temporarily to her parents house. 

I'd rather not.  All because dickhead, couldn't face saying "look, mum, there's a problem, we need to postpone for a couple of weeks.

The LPA is (probably) better than nothing, but it can be a double-edged sword and it looks like you're finding this out.

Oh and the icing on the cake.  As part of his "job" as executor, he's been emailed 4 documents (15 pages) from.the solicitor that he needed to print off.  Now he apparently has a very important job.  Something like General Manager...He's working from home. Apparently doesn't have a printer. What the fuck? He wants me to print them for him.

You'd be surprised that quite a few people are content to work with laptop and WiFi, but don't bother with a printer.

Bear in mind that being an Executor isn't exactly a bunch of laughs and if he gets it wrong, he is personally liable.

1 ISA. 1/2 a house.  1 joint bank amount. 1 teachers pension. 1 main recipient (the spouse) and 3 lesser recipients (small sums to each of his kids) 

Which is why he's going to pay a solicitor £220 plus vat per hour to do it for him.

Wife, is being carefully not to bad mouth him to thier mother, but even so her mother called him "A bit stupid" 

It's been suggested that I move out, temporarily,  in the unlikely (but possible) case that MIL might have it, but fuck that.
