Sorry for your wife's ongoing health problems Bub, I'm hoping that with a surgeon doing the lumbar procedure this time he gets it right and it relieves the pain for her.

I have my fingers and toes crossed for you both

Heading for the ferry tonight,

Then the long haul from Holyhead to North Norfolk begins.

Saying goodbye to a loved one is never easy, harder still with the distance involved :(

Bad times, good luck for the journey and for when you actually get there.

Bub - hope things take a turn for the better.

noticed  this bitch in McDs with her brat the other night ...  in fact most people in McDs did ...

the games tablets were being put away as it was 7pm , but the brat wanted to play on one , but was not allowed to touch them as they needed a clean

so the tablet got left out , it got cleaned ... and the brat went quiet ,,, nice of the staff !!!

meals ends , and bitch just drags the brat out of the door , does not even bother trying to clear the table which looks like 10 people have had a food fight

this was also noticed by everyone ....

some right charmers out there ...  with baggage !

Just to finish off the Virgin Media grump (and yes, I do appreciate that this all is the nadir of triviality whilst some members have loved ones in hospital and other are facing housing issues - but this thread's all about a broad sweep, yes?)

Well, by the time I'd arrived home the bunch of diggy-dig twats had gone, leaving only random stacks of orange barriers and lumps of bitmac everywhere. Terrific.

Have your neighbours received any notification?

Additionally are you aware there must be a sign at the location of the road works which inform the public of why the works are being undertaken, by whom and contact information.

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/4383/bestpracticeinstreetworks.pdf

Road works have to be coordinated by the local authorities. If the road has recently (how recently?) had a new service then maybe it should not have been excavated for a period of time.

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/43578/street-works-code-of-practice.pdf

Read chapter 2. if of interest.

edit. Just do not take no for an answer.

I took a walk around, and there was indeed a small sign at the end of the road (obscured by a van) advising that the works were being done by ECJ Contracting (or something) on behalf of Virgin Media, and an emergency contract number. Still no clearer whether anyone else was informed about the works - Virgin were adamant their 'agent' had notified us. Well, whatever. They didn't.

The newly-laid footpath is now a total mess, with the cut-and-cover work badly filled in using a totally different tarmac based aggregate; some of it sitting well above the existing surface (nice trip hazard), others well below it (puddles and freeze-thaw will have that destroyed in no time).

We also have a plastic cover that's been jammed in at our boundary, enabling us to connect to Virgin Media services. Whoopee-doo.

My delight is curtailed by the fact that when we moved here, Virgin didn't offer any service and were utterly disinterested when I contacted them to ask if they had any plans to bring it to the area. We then had to pay a 'broken contract' penalty because we were moving from our old home before our existing contract had expired, but then they continued to bill us too. My opinion of this company is not terribly high.

Since we're talking about Northern Ireland here, things are a bit different regarding legislation and requirements... roadworks are (supposedly) co-ordinated by the Department for Infrastructure, as councils over here have a very limited role in roads and transport. It's also the case (apparently) that there's no legal framework for challenging badly-run or repaired roadworks in NI law other than through issuing criminal proceedings - which explains why Phoenix Gas get away with leaving potholed disasters in their wake. There are 'guidelines' that mean that works should be co-ordinated to avoid digging up roads and footways, but in practice this doesn't seem to happen.

So yeah. Bollocks to the lot of them. I'll take a few pictures of the mess in daylight tomorrow but, furious as I am, I can't find it in me to push this any further right now.

Newsflash: company founded by irritating minge-faced smugwump chancer is irritating and chancerish. Hey ho.

Best wishes to Bubs and to DozeyDustman; really hope things start looking up for you guys.

 Virgin Media

I still remember them blowing an entire house up by hitting a gas main & lighting it when they were called NTL.

We use them at work & they are just as utterly useless for five & six figure contracts.

Posted

Ntl destroyed every pavement in the whole town when they first arrived.

Closely followed by various utilities repairing the damage done. Gas, water, bt and electric all got faults and leaks all over the place.

Sorry to hear that, chief.

Went to a meeting with social services today. Was told by a manager that " I am to prioritise cascading information". Oh OK says I. So if it all goes tits up you want me to let you know ASAP? "yes" came the reply. Well why not just fucking say that then.

We don't need two cars, neither of us drive to work anywhere. But two we have, and one of the advantages is that it's meant to mean there is always one available....

So I needed to go and collect and order form ASDA this morning, load up the bin lid in the car seat that fits my focus, get to my car, unfold the wing mirror and it dangles loose. Given it was tucked in and there was no other damage to the side of the car it can't have been hit, it has to be a cunt. It looks like it's been lent on with the way it's separated from the base. The back cover looks alright so hopefully I should be able to swap that over with the replacement unit on it's way from EBAY. But that's fifteen quid out of my 'keep running a motorcycle despite being unemployed' pot just because some failed abortion hasn't been darwined yet.

Anyway back inside, child out of seat, out to RAV 4. Set off alarm as the key fob battery is low and the stupid thing doesn't disarm when you use the key manually. Obviously the battery is flat, FFS. Now the battery doesn't annoy me, it struggled through last winter and I knew it was on it's last legs. The first properly cold couple of nights have finished it off

But the Focus being vandalised does my head in. I spent five mins thinking of how I was going to 'educate' whoever did it (I have a rough idea about nextdoors daughters friends.... not enough to really make accusations.

Then ten mins about how I need to move out of the slums as Mr Hamilton calls this town. Until I realised that anywhere else  we could realistically move to also has people living there and where there are people there are twats so that wouldn't help things either.

As always with any minor grump, best wishes and condolences to all that require them here that have more serious issues they are currently battling.

Only trying to service the fucker

Dave hates me

Glad didn't try meself now

Oh aye, C4s are well noted for their exceptional* under bonnet access.  The skin on my knuckles still hasn't entirely grown back from when I had to remove the air filter on the one I had.

As the days go on I feel like it's getting more and more likely I'm gonna drop out of uni, or at least have to resit the year.

WTC, as a delivery person I know the pain, we can't get fuck all done and GMP are no better even with the media on their back.

Bub, that's just fucking awful, you deserve a turn for the better more than all of us.

I also have back issues, fucking hereditary, as I'm iffy as is, and my mum and her brother (55 and 59) both have very bad backs, and it's already coming for me at 23. Luckily they don't hit our heads directly but we're all mentally ill. It won't get as bad as you're seeing but I think I'm going to be in pain for the rest of my life. I'm already restricted to what I can do from my mental health, my mum's been basically retired for mainly physical but also mental reasons since she had me at 33.

Bad back vs a job as a delivery cyclist?

Yeah. I think your problem is long term thinking. Where does university lead vs where does delivering fast food lead?

I don't really know you so it's hard to give advice, however you need to think further ahead.

Backs only a problem if I do something to annoy it, but I'm in pain for days if I do. I build up my bikes with that in mind. Somehow my job doesn't cause an issue with it, and never has in the two years I've been doing it now.

Pissed off for two reasons.

Put winter wheels on the back of the BMW the other day, they're holding air about as well as a sieve.

Collected my e-bike today. I ordered a whole bike because it was a factory refurbished one that was only slightly more than a conversion kit but with a bigger battery. Ideal, thought I, for putting the electric gubbins on one of my existing bikes. However, I ordered one with 26" wheels and they sent one with 700c wheels! That idea is out the window then! Requested a return and if I can get it returned I'll just order a fucking conversion kit with a smaller battery instead. At least that'll fit!

I think it's an ongoing personal spat between Bucketeer and Hooli...

Don't forget, it's not 'what you say' it's all about 'who says what' on here right now.

Personal spats notwithstanding, I struggle to view any further erosion of freedom of speech on the Internet as a good thing.
