The grumpy thread

My ride home involves a steep narrow residential road with lots of parked cars. Once a week, without fail, I get an impatient driver behind me, revving the nuts off their car trying to get past.

Lost my temper this evening and flicked a V at the car as it passed me on a wider (but still steep/blind) bit of road.

Swear to god I'm not one of those 3 abreast dick head cyclists. But I will hold traffic up if it isn't safe for them to pass.

Anyway, got a load of verbal off the twat driver who stopped to have a go. 14 plate Kia soft roader thing.

Sorry, but it's always the people in nondescript newer cars.

I've started to ring them up telling them i'm having to wait in a layby somewhere for a booking time to come round "is that OK?" If I'm stuck at a suppliers for more than 30 mins, ring them up, and again, every 30 mins. They're pissed off with it already. "yeah, that's fine" e.t.c..

The supervisor I rang up initially was obviously unsettled that i'd rang and I could almost hear the cogs in this brain spinning round "how the fuck does he know about this??" Fortunately pretty much everyone who works for... let's say DLH.. think management and company procedures are an absolute shower of shit so "private" discussions between management about drivers and other workers are often leaked to the driver at first opportunity by disgruntled office staff. Warms you heart, doesn't it?

It seems to be normal procedure to try and build a case against someone and hit them with 3 or 4 different alleged transgressions at once. They don't notice something that's possibly amiss and speak to the guy in question to try and sort it, they work through the company manual to see how badly they can fuck the guy over, then openly brag about it afterwards. "sends a message" apparently.

Putting in a grievance wont work for me, I'm a 3rd party contractor, so I'd be "let go" before I even finished the sentence.

It's all about arse covering. It's almost like a game, and if you get fired, you obviously didn't cover your arse sufficiently well.

Have they ever had reason to mention this before, could they consider you've already had warnings?

No, never mentioned it before. They don't give advice if someone is doing something wrong (knowingly or unknowingly) they just sit and watch until they have enough to pull the guy in.

I hope whoever is in charge of maintenence isn't in the same league as them.

Unfortunately, this is true.

Fatalities at Manchester arena. Whether caused by malice or accident, people went out for a good night and won't be going home.

Saddening.

I should be in bed but I'm gripped to the news, it's horrific, there would be mostly children at that concert, many who won't be going home tonight.

My niece was there, but thankfully, she's home safe now.

The frightening thing for me, is that many will have been killed or injured in the stampede. Eye witness statements have said there were no stewards, and it appears that there was a mass panic that couldn't be managed.

I see another Hillsborough here.

Awful. Just horrible.

19 fatalities so far at a concert geared towards young children. My heart goes out to all those involved.

Now being treated as a possible terrorist attack. Just what kind of "God "do these people think they worship? A rhetorical question.

My heart goes out also to all .

It's fucking disgusting. I'd just left Manc city centre to go home when it happened, got home to people asking if I'm alright and whatnot (work for Deliveroo so could have been anywhere in central Manc for all they knew - as well as that I can get the train home from the arena, was at the other end of town luckily).

You see things like that in Paris, but it's a whole different kettle of fish when it happens in the city you've always called home.

This is awful news. What goes on in the mind of someone who knows he is going to leave the house and kill kids at a pop concert?

Sadly, it was only a matter of time before one of these maniacs slipped through the security service net.

22 dead, including children. The bastard that did it died, any known accomplices should have some wires attached to their genitals right about now. Not especially looking forward to going to the Echo Arena tonight now.

A pop singer does a concert, of course it's going to be mainly teenagers and younger kids with parents. What the fuck goes on in some folks mind. I'm truly sickened by this yet again. Thoughts with those involved in this truly horrific attack.

Its about time we got proactive and wiped these religious nutjobs off the face of the earth.

Gah posted a moan, realised my insensitivity and deleted it.

Thoughts to all those affected in the attack, just awful.

Horrible news to wake up to, especially at somewhere where so many children were present. Apparently it was when she came out to do an extra song, so the arena was already starting to empty and it could have been even worse.

The most sickening thing about it was that the person who detonated the bomb was obviously watching and listening to do the maximum damage.

Got the day off cos amys got the hospital at 2.30, so I've got changed into my filthy clothes to sort this caliper out on the gooner. Been ready since 9am and she's just getting out of the shower. I wonder how much I'll get shouted at if I take Charlie out to help?

Oh aye. That'll work. If it isn't religion, nutjobs will find some other excuse.

Retaliation is exactly what they want, so more people will join their cause because they're being unfairly targetted by the west. If you really want to piss them off, go to an open day at a Mosque, or just get on with your life like you couldn't give a toss.

Tim, just park your truck as far from the depot as possible.

Park up, get train home. Post them the keys. Second class.

Tell them you were ill and couldn't drive any further

Fuck em

Wise words.

Not a Daily Mail or Daily Trump type of response. Therefore balanced and sensible. IMHO.

Retaliation is what these 'people' want... They are looking for a war with the west. As tempting as it may seem to retaliate with more violence. A war isn't an answer.

I did attend such an open day at a Mosque (in Malaysia). Everyone there was just as horrified and upset by the actions of the terrorist groups. In some ways even more so, as the atrocities were carried out in the name of their religion. Many muslims wept openly after praying for it all to stop.

My morning...

I'm a lorriest, I get to Killingholme docks to get the swap body container taken off (these are a ball ache, yesterday 2 different craney blokes to take one off, 3 different craney blokes to put new one on... Then one bloke and 5 guys helping to take that one off)

Anyway, the holes are bigger than the twist locks and the container has slid back half an inch, I have to get the guy to lift it up half inch, slide it forward then drive around corner to lift it off and I head to Immingham docks...

25 mins in the queue I go in the office, "morning, I need this container ecbuXXXXXX"

"erm, that went at midnight with one of your drivers"

Ok, I ring the office "ring back in 5" I have a 15 min break and ring back "were sorting stuff, well text." About 10 mins later, "go to Killingholme docks for xxxxx"

Cool, I head to Killingholme "i need X" of course work gave me the wrong pin number, I get the correct pin in 5 mins.

I get the container and this is my fault, one of the twist locks had dropped meaning I needed the box lifted, so I could push it back up.

All is well and I might aswell get diesel and a coffee as I have 4 hours to do 50 miles.

Oh, Costa Express machine isn't working. But they're giving free make your own coffee so that's ok I guess.

Cashier... "Linda, I've given number 14 and number 10 to this bloke... Who's number 10???"

I was number 10, a bloke only got adblue, but she gave him my 210 litres of diesel as well. Of course she couldn't put mine through as normal, it had to be manual with a piece of A4 paper and what have you. 15 mins later I am free to deliver.

2 and a half hours early, they could refuse me and that's fine. "What's your reference number?" I wish I knew. So my 4th call to the office and I've only started at 7:30am.

Their vending machine nobbed me of 5p, which makes sense.

P.s. I did see a black Esprit Turbo, so not all bad.

Failed to fix the Laguna

Amy calls me from the hospital saying the Zafira sounds like crap and the revs are fluctuating. Hopefully it'll drag itself home later, I did break a breather pipe and insulation taped it back together, I'm hoping it's that (1.8, the one that goes from the rear left of the rocker cover down to some metal bit under the throttle body...) and it's still leaking oil, but because I used a thin bead of tigerseal upon refitting the cover I don't really want to have that off again...

Car mojo running low...
