Which one do you wish you kept?

2 Spring to mind - in my current mood. ( Pictures from net as I had no money or camera back then - I have a camera now though! )

1) 1979 / 1980 VW Passat 1600 GLS Estate. Bought for peanuts as needed very little on the mot fail and a new lock. A car I had wanted for a few years.

id not even get to drive it though as my mate who drove it back for me loved it so much he made me an offer I could not refuse of silly money for it.

2) MOP73X - Black Renault Fuego 1650 GTS - an absolutely lovely car to drive but cheap to buy as it needed a damn good clean up / which I did.

306 GTi-6. I miss that car so much. Fast enough, practical enough and the best handling car I've ever driven.

I had an ‘82 model Cortina 1.6GL in Champagne gold when I was 17, it was only 5 years old so the newest Cortina I will ever have in the best colour, I sold it when I was 19 to start saving for a house, bought a 2.3GL for £130 in really poor condition but it had tinted glass, a factory sunroof, stereo radio cassette and V6 engine which was great.. The 1.6GL I sold to a colleague, the 2.3GL I sold to someone who said he was going to restore it, he broke it up. I wish I had kept both but space was tight and I thought I could buy the 1.6GL back when my colleague got bored of it but sadly it got stolen from outside his house and never found.

None of them.

They all went for a reason - knackered, fleet reduction, need for funds, avoiding divorce etc

While I wouldn't have minded keeping a few of them, I have no regrets with my choices at the time.

The car I truly regret selling is my 1975 Rover P6 3500. Lovely car in almond. Ran it for 6yrs. Should never have sold it.

Why was it that you could not take a Fuego through a car wash? I recall the signs!

The rear wiper went through the glass and would get wrenched back shattering the window. Other cars notably Porsche 924/44/68 seemed to manage not shattering though.

My Father in law had a Fuego and broke his back window twice, once in a car wash and another time with a Calor Gas cylinder in the boot.

I have just two out of the many cars I have had

Firstly a Mercedes 190e in bright white. Build sheet that came in the sevice pack showed that the AMG spoiler and body kit were factory fitted, as were the AMG alloys. Had black leather (not MB Tex) seats and door panels, an electric sunroof and air conditioning. Was immaculate with only a five pence piece size bubble coming up on the front wing. Can't find any photos of it, but know I have some non digital ones somewhere.

Second was my Lexus LS400. 225,000 miles on the clock when I bought it, but aside from the front bumper, was immaculate inside and out. Fitted some LS430 wheels to it, got the front bumper fixed and repainted and did 25,000 miles in it in 18 months. 150mph motoring for £1500. God knows why I sold it.

I Think the guy who part exchanged it at the bombsite garage I got it off was a lazy git!. Looked to have never been cleaned before I got it. Matt black when I got it but Gloss black with a now habitable interior after I spent a good few hours on it.

Sold this around 2011ish for £630 on eBay. I loaded it onto a curtain sider with a 12ton forklift and off it went to Ireland. It returned to the UK 5 years later having been bought by a guy I know up the road. He payed 2500 for it. My name was still on the log book.

would love another. I regret selling it but at least I still see it from time to time

Honda Accord Coupe, sold to Twosmoke on here.

It always put a grin on my face every time I drove it, in many ways a much worse car than the Lexus that replaced it but it just had that indefinable "it" factor for me.

Ah man, this one. MK2 Escort 1600 Sport, 2.0 Pinto done properly with alloy mounts etc. Bought out of the Basildon Evening Echo for a few hundred quid, Realised it wasn't brilliant under the primer and scrapped it. Not only easily restorable now, but was registered alongside some of the works rally cars. Bollocks.

Odd wheels are because the seller kept the 14 inch RS 4 spokes. Yes 14", should have waved some readies under his nose for them too.

I'd like to still have my Mantas but one got stolen and crashed, the other utterly rotten so neither case was really a choice.

Of the cars I've sold, I dunno maybe the Bluebird but I don't really regret the cars I've sold .

Sorry folks , no pics available on my laptop.

My biggest regret is my Pug 205 Gti, 1.6. No choice in that one, it got written off after being T boned  by some fuck wit.

Those that I sold that I regret, my E plate Nissan Sylvia Turbo...loved that car. And for sheer cheap fun my Citroen AX Gt greenline.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing!

Ooof.

My dad's was a dark blue K-plate, and he'd probably have kept it forever if it'd not been written off on a roundabout by some idiot in the wrong lane.

Holidays in that were epic.

My early vauxhalls were my favourite cars. The cavalier 2.0gls sportshatch, went to my brother who wrote it off. Followed by x plate astra 1.3gl, traded in by a A plate astra 1.6sr, which was the best one I ever owned, traded in due to having to be sensible dad b plate cavalier mk2 1.6gl. That was my favourite run of cars from age 20 to 26. In later cars, xantia 1,9td which died a couple of years ago.

There were a few I've regretted selling over the years but none more so than this. I rarely keep cars for any length of time and I'd had this a couple of years which is good going for me, but almost as soon as it went I started missing it.

I have three I regret selling; Oddly two are of the same type of car. Unfortunately I'm the sort of person who easily finds fault with my cars for illogical (and sometimes illusory) reasons, so I'm my own worst enemy in this regard.

My very first car, a 1994 Mitsubishi RVR Sports Gear. A powerful 2 litre "4x4", what more could an 18 year old young man want in a car? It was terrific fun to drive, but I can understand why I sold it, I got it very cheap, but it was cheap for a reason, and thoroughly munted - roof rusting, no evidence of a cambelt change, burning more oil than petrol (Which it used heaps of - I never got better than 20 MPG on this car) - it would have cost more money to fix than I had. I did regret it as soon as I settled in to it's replacement, a minging Toyota Starlet.

The second car I regret selling was my 5th car, a 1996 Honda Odyssey L. As much as people can hate on people movers....they're surprisingly comfortable, it felt very, very wafty, and though not particularly powerful, given that underneath it was a Honda Accord with almost 1/3 more weight, and the aerodynamics of a brick, it held speed well on the open road. There was also an emotional connection to this car, as we had owned it since I was about 10 years old - my parents gave it to me. As ever, the bright lights of gimmicks and gadgets (Such as cruise control, and not leaking in the rain) wooed me, and I sold it to buy my current little Honda Fit, which I think I hate all the more because I sold this.

IMG_3730.thumb.jpg.390627f2c89daf446293a140f0cd0a5c.jpg

Finally, in October last year, I thought I'd scratch the RVR itch again, and very luckily, within weeks of deciding I'd do this, I found one in incredible condition (for a 28 year old car). So of course I purchased it. I purchased it knowing that it would need a new cambelt, and a new clutch at some stage soon. But of course, me being me, I didn't think that through very well, and didn't think about pricing those jobs up. Oh well. As it turns out, the twin cam 4G63 motors use a very expensive cambelt kit - the Gates kit cost around $700 on sale, at the local motor factors. And changing both the clutch and cambelt on these is difficult due to a tight engine bay - so all up, I would have been looking at $3500 to get all that done. All it then took to precipitate a sale was getting slightly annoyed with driving manual all day in traffic.. Being in lockdown with far too much time to overthink things, I'm regretting that sale every day now. Given my now infrequent drives, they would be much more fun in an RVR than a Fit!

My first car, in 1980 was a 1972 1000cc mini clubman estate as per pic but not the reg no ,I was an apprentice at Austin at the time so was able to 'acquire ' , ( sue me Rover),  the bits for a stage 4 upgrade, 1380 cc bore out, free breathing twin choke carb, sprint ratio gearing and an 'interesting' find on a dusty old shelf in the tunnels underneath Longbridge which was an A series head with a hand written tag attached by string stating 'excessive for road use' !

I can confirm that it was indeed excessive and shocked many a arse in an expensive foreign sports job who were shocked and embarrassed in equal measure!

Happy days!

Thirsty as hell and handled like a boat, gave passengers motion sickness..

Loved looking at it though, the 3.9 was a hoot with a manual, it would spin all 4 wheels if it was a tad greasy, had a piper torque max cam..

68k and sold it for quite a bit more than what i payed, totally mint it was..

2nd would be this MK3 Mondeo i picked up for £50..

Threw a new DMF on it and flipped it..

Great to drive and was quite a looker, did 67mpg too!!

1973 NSU Ro80. It was fitted with a Mazda 13B, and was lovely to drive. I really should have kept it instead of the 635CSi.
