Is the red sports car a TVR? We're on Shields Road, Glasgow, 'the '90's'

Yes it is.   An S Series, I think - the air scoop and fishy grille would mark it as different from an 'M'.

Geo Storm looks to be spot-on.  The Storm was a badge engineered Isuzu Impulse, but the Isuzu didn’t have that horizontal panel joining the tail lights.

TVR S Series 2. It has the 8 spoke wheels, chrome above the bumper strips and the shorter doors.

Uncommon in UK, but they were sold here for a couple of years, decent wee cars.
This was mine, a few years ago.

I don't think I've ever seen one - maybe I did and they're so unremarkable that I never remarked on them?
I think the guide price there is £1500-£2000 but I'm not tempted

Any idea what this is? The reg plate looks French which could be a clue. I've zoomed in on the front end, the mascot looks like a two bladed aeroplane propellor.

@martc My best guess is that it's a Dutch Spyker.  Their radiator badge was a two bladed propeller and most of their 1920s cars had a radiator with similar features to the one you've shown.  However, I can't find any which have the two short straight edges either side of the lower grill and most had a more conspicuous central 'V'  (plan view, like a ship's prow) whereas yours is very subtle.  Maybe one for @barrett?

The mascot on top of the radiator looks like a 2 bladed propellor, but all sorts of mascots existed.  What is the actual badge on the radiator?

Posted

The car's proportions are unusual, particularly the height of the bonnet being at the driver's eye level.  Could it be aero engined (with a front mounted starting crank... perhaps not) or a nicely finished one-off or re-purposed production car fitted with a large capacity (long stroke) racing engine?  @Mr Pastry I have searched websites which show car logos/mascots/radiators from the 1920s but have not found anything promising.  I think I'll go back to listening to music now.  I hope someone provides a convincing recognition to add to things I'll forget a month or so afterwards 😀.

I thought it might be a Voisin, but the badge on the rad shell is wrong for one of those. My other guess is a Darracq, but again the badge does not match.

The coupe from the previous page appears to be a Geo Storm:

The lights match, as does the US-shape number plate.  Goodness knows how one of those ended up in the UK - can only assume a US serviceman was posted to a base in the UK and brought it over with him.

The big old 20's car - the badge looks a little like a Hotchkiss (in that I can see a diagonal detail (although Hotchkiss badges have a cross)), the radiator grille is similar, but not the same, as Hotchkissessss of that era -

Right hand drive was quite en vogue for expensive cars back in the '20's, although more in the US than Europe. It showed you'd made it and also allowed your chauffeur to get out on the pavement side to quickly get to the back to open your door.

That's my friend's photo and if he doesn't know what it is then it's gonna be tough one to crack...

Spotted this hiding behind the bins while waiting at the lights in a fairly rough part of West Belfast yesterday:

Looks somehow wrong for a Jaguar Mk2 - rear window appears too wide, and the tail lamp seems incorrect.

Is this one of those Mitsuoka things based on a Micra?

Posted

Window isn't that wide on a Mitsuoka Viewt, and they have three tail lamps on each side.

Could be a 1960s Jag S Type?

I think the rear window is wrong for an S Type. It appears to have a different curve at the edges

I'm annoyed that I didn't catch sight of the side profile - I only turned my head and noticed it at the point I was stationary.

But it really didn't seem very large; I knew someone with a 420G, and it was a massive big thing.

My first thought was, oh look, a Mk2 Jag, quickly followed by no, that's not right, must be a Mitsuoka, how unusual - then I took a quick snap before the lights changed.

Looking at the pic later (and zooming in), I'm now not so sure what it was!

Looks like a MK2 to me. That steel mesh gate probably doesn't  help make it clearer.

I don't think any other Jaguar saloons had those wide fluted bumpers.

This one has me stumped.  I can't make out the badge very well, but I don't think it's a propeller.  It almost looks like the chevrons from the early Citroen badge.

Pre-war cars can be very difficult to identify because so many had custom bodies made for them.  The Headlights on this one make me think it's a Voisin, but I also see elements of Rolland & Pilian.  The grille somewhat reminds me of Chenard-Walcker but I don't think they ever made anything this large.  Ballot also used a similarly shaped grille.

As said by @artdjones it's a Mk2 Jag.

You can just about see the Mk 2 badge and also the end of the chrome trim between the rear lamp and the rear wing

Yup, looks like it's the real deal after all - cheers folks.

Must be just the general vehicle inflation of recent years which made it appear really quite small - I could have sworn it was about K11 Micra size. But then I was behind some sort of massive Volvo SUV, so that might explain it...
